@Nancy : i don't think oyster creek hekpls us. it is just a blueprint of the "lightbulb" containment. nothing new to us.

@Edano all these drawings help, we just need to be careful that they list were they are... looking at the one yesterday i counted 36 penetrration from the contaiment vessel and i susspect there may be more, i had read there are 56,, those are all the weakest links other then the gasketed areas.....

@fitter : the mark1 lightbulb design has been critizised for possibly causing a rocket-like explosion if the containment is too much under pressure. it can "shoot" the containment cap into the air, and maybe that's what has happened in #3 explosion.

#3 containment vessel was under pressure one week after the explosion; it's an evidence that the containment cap is in place; gasses laws are universal: if the cap was removed, the containment vessel would have instantly reached atmospheric pressure and could never have been pressurized again.

@Edano in some safety reports it actualy states that the sudden release of superheated steam reliefing into the torus can cause the lightbulb to lift from it foundation... thats why they did the second mod of a relief from the tours to the external vent system... also building #3 had a "fire or steam line failure BEFORE the Isunami hit ....per the employees... in the building at the time

I belive it #3 that has the ring of fire heat img... i blive that is a sealing faluire between the reactor and containment... but have you in your variables the "possible istolations/broken indtruments and the possible cavataion (which is a flaw in the design on this model)

From last data update:
we can now see that #1 RPV is on the way to cold shutdown (if we can say...): it seems now to condense more water than it produces steam: water level has become unstable and seems rising, which is consistent with the temperature being close to the lowest boiling point.
Note that fuel temperature is likely to be higher that the data we have, then steam will sill be produced.

@Jocelyn Mayer were youable to get the one srould rad report from nklistener... it has some intersting info on how they approch the core during a shutdown.... the rad number and the procedures that are used to lower the numbers to allow the workers in the core....

@fitter: good morning
it seems to me that #3 RPV was pressurised until it started condensing, near 4 or 5th of April. The containment vessel did reach atmospheric pressure the 20th of March. Given the data we have now (high temperature & radiation in the drywell), we know some corium has escaped. But the pressure differences between RPV & drywell show there should be no major leak above the water level.
We cannot know where RPV is leaking water, though; can be through the drywell, the torus, pipes, in the turbine building, ... , or from everywhere at the same time...
The explosion did destroy the secondary containment, it may not have breached the primary one by itself (even if its power makes it hard to believe...), we have no data to know about this. Torus is not likely to be broken as its pressure has still not fallen: it's equivalent to 7 meters of water.
What is sure is that pipes, pumps in the reactor building have been destroyed, which give many pathes for water to leak...

About #3 torus (and the same applies to #1): its pressure, equivalent to a 7 meter water column, given its temperature is low, is means the lowest water leak should be 7m above the torus; blueprints may help finding where the leak(s) is likely to be...
Of course, data may be incorrect, as some pressure reading seem to have an offset from their actual value (my guess, may be wrong).

@Jocelyn Mayer Yes.. i totaled about 36 penetration from the containmt...sure there are more and about 16 off the reactor... I am sure the piping system is destroyed, i don't think everyone undertands the complexity of the piping system.,. the little grafics make it looks simple, but after getting the elevation drawing "THAT went out the window...

@fitter: taking a quick look to the #1 blueprint, my estimation is 7 m above the torus is approximatively where the recirculating loop pump is located. May also likely be near the level of the pipes to the turbine building; would be consistent that the major leaks are there...

news of the day... monday the paper carrried an article that our power houses lost power staturday night when the Tornado took out its switch gear station... one has been on line, connected yesterday with main feed... second is still on diesl generater....NO addition RAD release other than "Normal Operationing release" do you think i should believe them.... no mention on if they SRAMed....
