fitter, Dean may have good thoughts on www.jsme.or.jp the mechanical stuff I don't have much opinion on one way or the other. In the conclusions I noted "very cost-effective" which is normally a flag to see if what they suggest is really superior or simply a way to save $ (the two are not necessarily mutually exclusive).

xxx -- Absolutely. The laptop is receiving the stream, it should be getting directly recorded on the laptop. It's a farce -- a video of a laptop displaying a digital video stream, then even that video is output at 320x180, since the original (the camera taking the video of the laptop) was likely at least a 640x360, and most probably 1280x720. I don't know what the original stream displayed on the laptop is, but it will be fairly good -- you can do wonders with a 1 Mbps video, quality-wise, these days.

Jaitapur Project: Ratnagiri situation still tense, but under control Ratnagiri , Wed, 20 Apr 2011 ANI The situation is still tense but under control in Maharashtra's Ratnagiri district, where a shutdown was called by Shiv Sena on Tuesday to condemn police firing in which one person was killed while opposing the 9,900 MW Jaitapur Nuclear Power Project (JNPP). The nuclear project at Jaitapur, which would be built in collaboration with French firm Areva, has run into rough weather as protesters have argued that it would harm the local environment and put people at risk.

The project site is 25 meters above sea level. In the wake of the nuclear crisis in Japan, India is planning urgent steps to review safety norms in its nuclear power plants in case of any eventuality and to withstand natural disasters of the magnitude as witnessed in Japan.

India has 20 nuclear reactors in operation in six power plants, generating over 4,000 megawatts of electricity while five other plants are under construction. www.newstrackindia.com

On Unit 2 trench, I see reports of either 1 or 2 cm drop due to the first day's work, depending on NHK vs. JT. Gonna take some time...

@elainekirk if you are crusing the NRC web page they had a detailed report on the reactors bodies and heads... and the issues with the forgings not be correct.. i try finding it again but could'nt, i know its in the section on "conterfiet" parts... just in case your interested.. yoiu find alot

we need to get that skype thing some time.. we talked about it with George and Jim... haven't heard much since then... I wanted to discuss the efforts industry is taking to prolong life or alter the original design of the facility for the purposes of saving money.. all that stuff in my mind.. puts one outside the original design basis

the photo's you linked me definately show areas of concern for BWR's,, one thing is .. they cut costs by building the vessel out of carbon steel then have a stinless steel liner,, which introduces all kinds of stress questions... and, in most cases.. remember,, every component in the vessel has a "fluence limit" ie: how long can it operate until it reaches a limit from stress, fatigue, corrosion etc. the longer the plant goes.. they keep updating the life time projection with more analysis and paperwork ,, ,but in fact... in my opinion the components should be replaced instead of bandaid fix's.. which result in running with known cracks like in the shroud

@dean i did a lot of looking at the repairs to stress cracks etc... wouldn't fly on a piping system... really don't understand... but no way these plants should be re-issued 20 more years

another thing.. it's hard to find a vendor with an N-STAMP to fabricated nuclear components anymore.. they they have to do a commercial grade acceptance on material

@dean my fingers are tired... they told me to turn my radio on listen for instruction, there are not set paramiters for the alarms. it may mean stay in place or evacuate.. they will brodcast.. if the power is out use the car radio.. and the set me to a bunch of web sites
