@dean, @fitter, skype is fairly straight forward and free. You need a mic, audio, and a camera hooked up. You may have it all in your laptop already. Download and install the app from skype and try it with a good friend first. You can find each other by searching for the names you give yourselves in the skype address search and call your party up. I have not explored conference calls yet.

@Tenzing , you must insist that they are conducting more differentiated food checks. Homeland Security has stepped up checking incoming containers at ports of entry. They are still spot checking only.

@mark @xxx TEPCO is jerking everyone around. We all know that there is video capture capability in the current OS software and in most info gathering programs. This video of a laptop screen is a joke. TEPCO needs smack in the back of the head.

Those Unit 1 water level measurements have puzzled me - so constant.
1) They could be bogus - very consistent, nice rounded numbers.
2) Here's an extract from discussion via the physicsforum

"BWR reactor level measures water level outside the shroud. It uses two taps into the vessel, The top tap has a condensing pot to keep the reference leg full. At least some US plants have keepfill systems to keep the reference leg full under flashing conditions or shutdown. The lower tap is outside the shroud just above the core support plate. The pressire difference between these two points is related to level The maximum pressure difference would be a vessel dry or full of steam down to the bottom tap (max dp = minimum measureable level). The minimum pressure would be when level of water rises above the upper tap. (Zero dp = maximum measureable level). If the reference leg is not full the level indication is erroneously high."

"So, whenever the level in the core drops below the tops of the jet pump diffuser pipes (-1 m or so), the level measurement gives information on the water level between the shroud and pressure vessel, not in the core area. All we know (if the level measurement works properly) is that the core level is below -1 m. The core could even be completely drained, and there could still be a couple of meters of water to be measured in the downcomer."

@Deidre TY for the post. It seems to tie in with my thoughts on unit 1. I think unit 1 has the potential to be most dangerous, and I've been working on figuring out something called a LOCA steam condensation phenomena.

I watched (bits of, rotten computer) robot video. Did y'all see the little white 'flashes' of emitters on it, say about 4:30 seconds in. I watched a Youtube video of an experiment that showed that happen.

Looks like there's a data (or data extraction coding) problem - the status charts in the Japanese METI versions show numbers (e.g., -1650mm, -1600mm, -1700mm) for A readings, where the .br summary shows the "99999" value. I've been looking at the Japanese METI status charts. (I wonder if the source data is somewhat inconsistently formatted.) @marie rich - thanks

Quite possible the Stolfi Brazil scripts have hit burps. He sources from the NISA reports -- those are the "Nxx" values in the right column. Marie -- Not sure if I saw the flashes vs. encoding gunk from the cruddy video; poor transcoding of video tends to introduce artifacts.

I have great faith that at the worker bee level there are engineers calling BS at the TEPCO end, and that is likely where high res things are sourcing.
