Japan Earthquake | Page 855

  • @Nancy, according to your pics below, there are 2 cranes, one that is not usually pictured. One is for the heavy lifting (covers, caps, etc) and the other is for refueling. Most pics only show the refueling crane, which isn't built big enough to move that huge yellow cap up and over to the side. In the pic of the refueling crane you see a man holding a cable going up higher, that is attached to the lifting crane. I would assume that one crane is parked on one end of the building and the other crane is parked at the other end during normal times.

  • look at this, its about browns gas, which is a perfect mola mix of hydrogen and oxygen which implodes when ignited. This is not avery good link, looking for better . www.svpvril.com

  • UniT 4 roof object. Please see fourth picture - shroud tool on shroud material (I think). www.toshiba.co.jp
    by Scilla 4/26/2011 8:31:36 PM

  • @wtm from what I can tell the big overhead one that hugs the ceiling can be parked at either end when not in use. The images I have seen have it parked down on the end by the SFP but I don't know if that is normally where it is left. The refueling crane is not the whole width of the building. It has the ability to go to the end of the SFP (where we see it on #4)and over the reactor well. It straddles the well and SFP.
    by Nancy 4/26/2011 8:33:52 PM

  • Thebobject on the roof is shiny on one side. Nancy's pics, fourth picture down. www.houseoffoust.com
    by Scilla 4/26/2011 8:34:45 PM

  • @Scilla That just gave me a massive "duh" moment. Of course the shroud doesn't go into the reactor work bay in one piece. It wouldn't fit through the lower level doors!!! Looking at that toshiba doc it looks like long sheet are brought down and welded in place row by row. Oh and yes, the object on the roof seems to have a shiny side. For a while I thought it was a piece of concrete wall because you could see clouds on it. Then it dawned on me that it was a reflection and the thing was metal.
    by Nancy 4/26/2011 8:37:01 PM

  • @Nancy, Yes, looking at the pic of the blown out building, you can see what is left of the tracks that the overhead crane runs on, about half of the side tracks are gone now, which means that the crane is toppled somewhere down on top of the reactor, or it was blown off someplace ?
    by wtm 4/26/2011 8:37:13 PM

  • by Edano via I56.tinypic 4/26/2011 8:37:32 PM

  • @wtm I think it may be under the roof trussing. Some of the side shots and some overhead show a big metal beam that looks like the crane and I think we have one that looks like the motor for it.
    by Nancy 4/26/2011 8:38:20 PM

  • So there are evidently 3 crane type things, a big overhead one that rides on overhead tracks, and lifts the caps, covers off the reactor, a machine that unscrews the reactor cap and aligns it properly, and a refueling machine which moves the rods back and forth between the reactor and the SFP.
    by wtm 4/26/2011 8:40:51 PM

  • @Nancy I don't know if the scale is right, size wise. Will keep looking to see if I can find a measurement.
    by Scilla 4/26/2011 8:43:17 PM

  • In the pic of the reactor area, and the big yellow cap is on the upper right, the concrete suppression chamber covers (cap), which are 8 semi-circle concrete/steel pieces are stored just to the lower left, just out of that picture.
    by wtm 4/26/2011 8:50:04 PM

  • Sorry reactor cap is upper left.
    by wtm 4/26/2011 8:50:21 PM

  • Why was my CNN video removed? It talked about Japan in it...it was relevant, and the deformities may be hard to look at, but those are the realities of what Japan will e facing, as ugly as it is.
    by Sin 4/26/2011 8:55:12 PM

  • whatever
    by Sin 4/26/2011 8:57:31 PM

  • It is not news, but it certainly is relevant.
by Ralph Unger 4/26/2011 8:58:02 PM

  • Vote here also, don't like what I see, but unfortunately it probably is what is going to happen there.
    by wtm 4/26/2011 8:59:06 PM

  • i don't know why things are posted on both pages at the same time ....
    by Edano 4/26/2011 9:01:27 PM

  • it was deleted three times...so whatever, being censored here is BS. Nice talking to you all , but I won't e back most likely.
    by Sin 4/26/2011 9:01:27 PM

  • Sorry to hear that Sin, I hope you change your mind.
by Ralph Unger 4/26/2011 9:02:00 PM

  • @Sin There have been posting oddities where things just evaporate. I don't think it is censorship. I think there is a glitch
    by Nancy 4/26/2011 9:02:15 PM

  • @Edano @Edano some people dont go to both pages
    by Sin 4/26/2011 9:02:20 PM

  • @sin maybe you could take it up with George ? It may be but we have a situation where Japan are blocking news on the basis that alarm and fear are being brought to their people and whatever my opinion of their reasoning they do appear to have a point. I took down all the 'abandoned' pet video's too because a, they were not abandoned the owners were forced to leave them and b, it would cause alarm and sistress to those owners.
The same goes for this vid it will cause alarm and distress .
As far as I am aware the people of Japan can access this board.
    by elainekirk 4/26/2011 9:02:29 PM

  • @elainekirk @Nancy hmmmm..well I hope that is not happening here. I will ask George later.
    by Sin 4/26/2011 9:03:30 PM

  • @Sin I saw a post by someone this morning ( a comment). It was there and gone while I was trying to read it.
    by Nancy 4/26/2011 9:04:25 PM

  • en.wikipedia.org The book "Chernobyl: Consequences of the Catastrophe for People and the Environment" is free to download as a pdf from this link on wikkipedia.
    by e123 4/26/2011 9:05:41 PM

  • @Nancy, Sin, it may be that this board has a hacker on it to do censorship of the posts ?? At this point can't put it past those that see this will hurt their bottom line.
    by wtm 4/26/2011 9:05:55 PM

  • Or their political stature and
    future !!!
    by wtm 4/26/2011 9:06:53 PM

  • @wtm only people George gave mod rights to can get into that. There have been ongoing glitches where people get kicked into the moderation cue. It sounds like this one was some other issue though.
    by Nancy 4/26/2011 9:06:59 PM

  • @wtm i have knowledge of hacking, it is unlikely. A glitch perhaps.
    by Sin 4/26/2011 9:07:11 PM

  • by elainekirk 4/26/2011 9:07:45 PM

  • @e123 your videos have gone also
    by Sin 4/26/2011 9:07:53 PM

  • @elainekirk I don't agree with deleting 'alarming' content. Are we now following the GoJ's orders?
    by jay 4/26/2011 9:07:58 PM

  • @jay If that is true, I will not be back.
    by Sin 4/26/2011 9:08:44 PM

  • Could be as glitch, but somewhat computer savy here, once it clears moderator and gets posted, it should not disappear again.
    by wtm 4/26/2011 9:08:48 PM

  • @Jay many moons ago there was debate over whether this was a techi newsy site or whether it covered human interest , it was decided to have two boards this one techi news where technical discussion could take place and the other one for the emotional aspect / human interest side. Both relevant , both important, both with a voice on this site.
    by elainekirk 4/26/2011 9:10:23 PM

  • I know of no glitch that removes posts but there is a glitch where people go into mod for no known reason. If posts go they have usually been modded out
    by elainekirk 4/26/2011 9:11:23 PM

  • @elainekirk : agreed.
    by Edano 4/26/2011 9:11:48 PM

  • @elainekirk So that does mean that alarming/distressing news or technical info will not be deleted, correct?
    by jay 4/26/2011 9:11:53 PM

  • @wtm Mods here can and do partake in regular 'cleanups' of any posted material and discussion they deem inappropriate or irrelevant. Seems the other board content is slightly more sacred than this one.
    by es 4/26/2011 9:12:03 PM

  • @elainekirk The effects of radiation exposure is not technical enough?
    by Sin 4/26/2011 9:12:19 PM

  • Unless there is something say in a media pic or video that tells it not to allow a post due to a copyright infringement situation. That i could see happening. You might post and then the post gets checked internally by the board computer, and if there is information on the vieo that states that media company does not allow re=posting, then it may delete the post.
    by wtm 4/26/2011 9:12:53 PM

  • I finished the R3 explosion video, but got too cute for my own good on the password I guess, so I emailed it to Jim. Is he on?
