De-Lurking briefly to say that I would prefer less censorship of this 'tech' board. It frequently lapses from tech into something else, and it is often left alone at that. At other times, useful information is being 'judged' as inappropriate, and then removed -- these decisions seem a bit arbitrary, or perhaps just hasty at times. Please do not rush to censor -- it does more harm than the information left alone.

Re: the re-synced video of the R3 Explosion I just sent Jim and Nancy... someone will get it posted.

I normalized the sound up to rock band volume, so be aware. I synced it pretty tight; there's always play on where the center of the sound on an explosion comes. I used the "that looks right" paradigm.

Also: the second explosion appears to be an echo from the face of Reactor 6. I didn't have precise measurements. someone should check it. The reflections are at 2.041 seconds, and the next at 1.959 sec. That could be R6 Face, and back off R2. Or there's another large faced building that measures right. Speed of sound: 343.2 m/sec

Radioactivity in the Fukushima Nuclear Plant Appears to Have Increased Significantly

The Japanese television station NHK reported on Tuesday, the value of cesium-134 and 137 grew at about a 250-fold increase compared with the levels measured just a month ago. The level of iodine-131, was about twelve times what it was last month.

Authorities have killed starving livestock
On Monday it was revealed that the authorities had to kill hungry cows, pigs and other livestock in the restricted zone around the destroyed nuclear power plant. Wearing special radiation protection clothing, six employees of the provincial government of Fukushima had to carry out the cruel task in the restricted zone with a radius of 20 kilometers around the nuclear ruin. Pets for the time being are being spared.
Prior to the nuclear accident, there were 370 farms in the Region with 4,000 cows, 30,000 pigs and 630,000 chickens. The government justified its action with the protection of public health.

Apologies for getting in the middle of the 'dueling board' debate earlier - I happened to check in right in the middle of it. I misinterpreted @elainkirk's earlier post to mean there was a new decision here to start deleting 'distressing' news. That does not appear to be the case at all. However, one excellent suggestion from the other board was for mods to 'move' videos or other content that has relevance and value, but isn't 'newsy techy' enough, to the other board.

@maureen the other board is whatever people make of it, it was requested after it was felt that the site didn't reflect the human cost of the disaster and the human cost is imho the single most important factor in the whole mess.
However the other board was created to address the issue and this was elected the techi/newsy board.
Jay has just posted an excellent suggestion I myself do not know how to move a post between boards but I do suggest to those who may not be aware of the alternative board but would obviously benefit from it that they may like to visit and give the link www.scribblelive.com

That was a series where conversation had innocently shifted across the boards. I'm east contrast usa, tend to be on a smartphone evenings, so am pretty much restricted to deletes. (that explains my bizarre, but pretty consistent, typos. it is almost impossible to edit on droid aster the initial post is done.)
