@elainekirk I've read here that the American have no private insurance and operate only because there is an agreement with the government to do so. Do we know if the other nuclear facilities world-wide have similar governmental backings, or must they carry private insurance ?

Nuke insurance is a joke. If they did not get liability caps from governments nuke energy would be too expensive, "These [liability] limits provide a subsidy to the nuclear industry to the degree private insurance premiums paid by operators of individual plants are reduced. In a 1983 study, the NRC concluded that the liability limits were sufficiently significant to constitute a subsidy. " www.grist.org

@Ralph Unger Thank you. Yes, I've read about the NRC's subsidy claim, but forcing the industry to hold private insurance seems the only way to incentivize the owners to obey the law.

@Reed That makes sense. Most all insurances never pay when damage is caused by an act of nature and never pay during a declared war.

@Scilla I read something about a previous earthquake and claims that these older reactors could "split apart" related to the containment bulb. It didn't elaborate what exactly they meant by split apart. If they meant literally have the bulb crack, that would be a massive failure.

They got big problems, if they don't add water the fuel will be exposed even more, if they add water, they have to dump it into the sea. If the fuel is under water it should not be boiling off water, but it seems that it is. Why? I dunno.

Only a fuel spill in the bottom of the reactor causing continued fission could do that. Big problems indeed.

@carabnr the heat data? They just conveniently never released a heat image report on those days and also conveniently omitted it from the ongoing chart beside the images. They announced the heat readings for at least one of the days to the media as being in the 90's celsius. They also installed thermometers and other info gathering equipment to the watering cranes on I think Friday. So they were getting readings, they just conveniently omitted them without excuse.
