- Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station:
Units 1 to 3: shutdown due to the earthquake
(Units 4 to 6: outage due to regular inspections)
-2:00 pm on May 1st : the transfer of accumulated water in Unit 6 turbine
building to a temporary tank was started.
-April 30th: we upgraded the voltage of offsite power for Unit 3 and 4
from 6.9 kV to 66 kV in order to secure power supply capacity in future
as well as to enhance insulation level.
-We decided to blockade each vertical shaft as a countermeasure against
Tsunami, and have started the work for Unit 2 and 3 since May 1st. (We
already blockaded the vertical shafts of Unit 4 on April 6th.)
-May 1st: we sprayed the dust inhibitor to the area on the south side of
the turbine building of Unit 4 using the unmanned crawler dump truck,
approx. 1,000 m2
-May 1st: we sprayed the dust inhibitor to the slope surrounding the
former Administration Office Building using the conventional method.
-May 1st: we have confirmed that the effective exposure dose from January
1st, 2011 to March (the 4th quarter of the 2010 fiscal year) of a female
employee who has been in the restoration work after the
Tohoku-Chihou-Taiheiyou-Oki Earthquake is 7.49 mSv, which is in excess of
statutory dose limits (5 mSv / 3 months). The employee will be taking

A vice president of Tokyo Electric Power Company says he believes the nuclear crisis at Fukushima nuclear power plant is a man-made disaster.
TEPCO vice president Norio Tsuzumi visited Iitate village in Fukushima Prefecture on Saturday and apologized to about 1,000 villagers who gathered to hear him speak.
When he was asked if he thinks of the nuclear crisis a man-made disaster or a natural disaster, he said personally he thinks it is a man-made disaster.
All of the 6,000 residents of Iitate were instructed to evacuate by late May based on accumulated radiation exposure levels caused by emissions from the Fukushima Daiichi power plant.
After the meeting with local residents, Tsuzumi explained to reporters why he feels it is a man-made disaster.
He said that some say the nuclear accident in Fukushima was beyond any expectations but personally he thinks adequate precautions should have been in place.
