Strange isnt it that Japan was such a frontrunner in nuclear ...it is as though ge etc saw them as a prototype base 'go build a nuke plant in japan and use it to show other governments how cool this power source is'

I am just repeating what I have read, I think everyone hear knows how I feel about nuke power. I am all for it if it can be done safely, and modern plants are not safe.

@elainekirk , the country is essentially without fossil fuels (some coal) and no rivers long enough for much hydro. Nuclear seemed
a good way out.

@elainekirk Oh sure....A Nuclear Plant for example, is usually build by a company that either speculates "meaning it builds in hopes another company would buy it and run it" or is ordered " meaning build to order like GE for example build it for TEPCO"........now, in order to get money to build these immensly expansive projects, they have to raise money........so they goto a fifnacial group, saying, look we have this thing, electricity cost's like i.e . 12 c a kw.and we can sell it at the going rate for 24c a kw.so we project a income of 200 million per month for example.....so they ask can you organize financing...they say sure, let's take it public meaning people can buy bits and peaces "shares"..... so, people wil buy shares and if the plantis producing more energy for less money they wouldn't gain as much profit interest.....so they vote at meetings along with the owners or contractors "not every plant is run by owners".and they agree to out put less so it's more expansive "demand increases valuable"...that is done on the BOARD meeting.....see, the shareholders inadvertanly agree to the scheming on how to make more money by voting members to the board and cosign their money profit schemes.........so now if i own a car, i want it to give me years of driving without cost.....right ?.well as a share holder, you are not driving, you just pay for others to drive expansive stuff and they get paid and send you a check for the transport fee........hah....that was terrible explained but works for idiots like me )

i always thought japan is crazy building nukes on moving plates. and we all knew that an accident would happen sooner or later.

@Nancy I think it's beyond financial shakup.this is a direct kick to the head of TEPCO and GoJ.......since their culture prevents admitting helplesness and asking for it........dismatling the "not only Dai-ichi" is saying to the GoJ, we do not have faith in our leaders anymore to handle or provide safety

I think what we are not factoring in is the financial backing they would need to keep their nuke program, the earthquake threat is now too real they had the big accident in 2007 after the quake (another tepco plant) now 4yrs later an even bigger one , where are the underwriters going to come from? Japan wouldnt be in a position as a country to underwrite another quake
