@bobby I agree on the data thats why I like the doc where meti say that 1 & 3 were reported under emergency measures they can't unreport them I would have thought just need to know why they reported them

What if a hospital used blood pressure monitors that consistently gave readings 100 times too high? They would get sued, or lose their accreditation.

@bobby 1 but you have to think lawyer think if tepco felt in those early days (and now I should think) that there would be a sudden deterioration and they would loose control of the situation (hollow laught) then there would have to be explanations so
give high figures that covers your back you can say you couldn't do x,y,z because of high radiation levels , the risk of said event etc etc.
Roll forward a few days event hasnt happened but we have these high readings floating around OK it is now in tepco's interests to lower those figures and say oh look we only polluted by half the amount

@hudebnik this sounds akin to the stories about how TEPCO wanted to just walk away from the Fukushima site and let nature take its course on day 3, and how Kan read them the riot act and forced them to remain on site and keep working on the problem. Poor PM Kan was just hung out to dry to address a problem he almost certainly had no understanding of.

Add to that the fact that the majority party, the LDP, which oversaw the establishment of the dysfunctional nuclear industry and oversight here in Japan, was finally pushed out of office a few years ago, and now take every opportunity to snipe at Kan's heels and use this tragedy as a way to seize power again and vanquish their rival. If he does truly chart a course away from nuclear and towards renewables like he is talking about, he may have exerted at least some measure of valuable leadership through this crisis.

@hudebnik in some ways yes. When it isn't sunny, its windy. And if they can actualize the mechanism to capture ocean wave energy, that would do the trick. Lots of homes here have solar panels. So, there is a lot of energy in the local environment in one form or another. Plus I think that they know that China is aiming to be the green energy producer and they see an opportunity to get out in front of an emerging technology. I sure hope so. Perhaps it is just such a crisis that can compel us to do the "right thing" after all

Instrumentations
NISA, on receipt of an in-house whistle-blowing on November 15, 2005: "almost entire
full-flow certification examination data on the reactor feedwater flow instrumentation of
Toshiba Corporation were falsified", investigated ten nuclear reactors of TEPCO and Tohoku
Electric Power Co., Inc., using the flow instrumentations made by the company. As a result, it
was confirmed that the fraudulent correction had been made on the test data of feed water
flow instrumentations supplied to three units of both licensees. But, NISA determined after its
evaluation that there was no safety or legal issue involved due to the inaccuracy of the feed
water flow instrumentations.

@hudebnik quiet times call for conversation it is good to converse and I think lurkers feel more comfortable saying hi during relaxed times. Mods toddle through the board and delete non relevant later though a lot does get left in as it is part of the groups history. The board seems quite adept at reverting to techi when news comes in
