  • @dean, the description of the outside power-independent cooling capacity makes now sense to me. In tepco release 684 , www.tepco.co.jp , they state that they tried to engage emergency core cooling at 16:36 on Mar. 11 without success. This was about one hour after the second generator died and they were only on battery power.

  • good night..
    by dean 5/11/2011 2:02:33 AM

  • @Nancy, enjoy the photos. I will be watching to see what you all think. I've been in construction most of my life but am learning quickly about nuclear reactors.
    by Lurking 5/11/2011 2:02:43 AM

  • @Lurking @Nancy : link for cryptome ?
    by Edano 5/11/2011 2:03:09 AM

  • @dean There are lots of new angles etc. from what I can see and they are all clear for a change. If there is something anyone has a burning question on if they can let me know I will look for an image of that angle. Otherwise anything new or that we have been needing more info on I will grab to expand and post.

  • www.cryptome.org second text link starts the zip file download - no preview this time
    by Nancy 5/11/2011 2:03:41 AM

  • That heat image is incredible. #2 looks really hot, and #4 looks the best to me... except for the collapsing building. Looks like the cam is zomming again, Night Dean
    by carabnr 5/11/2011 2:03:54 AM

  • @Nancy @Lurking : thx. will watch em tomorrow.
    by Edano 5/11/2011 2:05:58 AM

  • I went to crytochrome last night. Fukushima npp#13 has a pic of the south wall of #4 from April 20th... if that helps.
    by carabnr 5/11/2011 2:08:28 AM

  • I think I see Elvis in there, next to bigfoot!
    by Ian 5/11/2011 2:12:55 AM

  • @Ian beside the gremlin and hello kitty. :-)
    by Nancy 5/11/2011 2:13:31 AM

  • @dean good night. Off to the office. Be back in a bit.
    by bo 5/11/2011 2:14:27 AM

  • One last thing, tippycam zooming in on 3 and 4
    by bo 5/11/2011 2:18:41 AM

  • Just noticed, 5.6 EQ off Fukushima coast a little over an hour ago. That makes 6 EQs over 5.0 in the last 20hrs.
    by LM 5/11/2011 2:20:55 AM

  • Went back to chripoto and Fukushima #13 is gone. Humm...
    by carabnr 5/11/2011 2:22:57 AM

  • I know this isn't techie but...does anyone here watch Fringe?
    by LM 5/11/2011 2:23:16 AM

  • Tippycam using cheap 60s video techniques now
    by bo 5/11/2011 2:23:34 AM

  • #11 AND 14 ARE THERE, BUT 13 LOOKS GONE.
    by carabnr 5/11/2011 2:23:58 AM

  • @carabnr I should have it saved and archived. Went and did all the existing ones a few weeks ago.
    by Nancy 5/11/2011 2:24:59 AM

  • @carabnr -13 is still there -6th down form top of section headed April
    by UKVal 5/11/2011 2:25:46 AM

  • Does it seem like the light smoke from #4 is not coming from the back right corner, but more in the middle?
by marie rich 5/11/2011 2:26:26 AM

  • Doo... thanks UKVal
    by carabnr 5/11/2011 2:26:34 AM

  • @Marie rich I noticed it coming from the middle as well.
    by LM 5/11/2011 2:28:43 AM

  • For any of you who watch Fringe...my husband suggested encasing the whole plant in amber. I apologize ahead of time if you don't get the reference!
    by LM 5/11/2011 2:30:05 AM

  • @LM LMAO. I catch that show occasionally, when I remember I have a TV! lol
by marie rich 5/11/2011 2:31:19 AM

  • @marie rich I couldn't quite tell if it was coming out of the SFP and rolling out futher down or if it is smoking again on the work deck. I have not checked MOD to see if they resumed heat images or not.
    by Nancy 5/11/2011 2:32:51 AM

  • @Nancy 2 and 3 are steaming away, but the cameraman is zooming on 4. Either he's trying to give you better "leaning" shots, or he thinks he sees something.
by marie rich 5/11/2011 2:34:42 AM

  • If he zooms in again, give your attention to the top floor. There are the two open 'windows' and to their right are two concrete panels. See if you notice anything in the crack between the tow pieces of concrete...
by marie rich 5/11/2011 2:36:53 AM

  • @Marie rich Thanks for that. He had me laughing too! Much needed comic relief.
    by LM 5/11/2011 2:37:22 AM

  • Why is the boom on that side of 4? Anyone know if tepco is shoring it up?
by marie rich 5/11/2011 2:41:14 AM

  • @Marie Rich - If you mean the 1 between 3 & $ I think that's a crane. It's been working round that area for a while, thought I saw it lift something earlier
    by UKVal 5/11/2011 2:44:21 AM

  • @UKVal Oh, clearing debris. Makes sense. TY
by marie rich 5/11/2011 2:46:12 AM

  • I got a good sight of the yellow cap in 4 then
    by UKVal 5/11/2011 2:46:20 AM

  • I grabbed 2 screen shots off of TBS just now. I think one of the panels on the south side may have broken away more but it was already broken, concrete frame etc.
    by Nancy 5/11/2011 2:48:31 AM

  • U guys seen this ???
Underwater video taken inside a rubble-filled pool for spent nuclear fuel rods at the Fukushima No. 1 plant. bit.ly
