Containers from Japan seized in Netherlands due to radioactivity

Health authorities in the Netherlands said Tuesday they have detected radioactive substances from 19 containers from Japan at a Rotterdam port, of which five have been temporarily seized as the amounts of the hazardous materials exceed the permissible level. And they want other nations to ease restrictions.Yikes!

Where's the outrage?...............................Gov't: Burying contaminated soil into ground works
The Japanese government plans to inform schools in Fukushima Prefecture that burying radiation-contaminated topsoil into the ground is an effective way to reduce its radiation level.

The education and science ministry concluded this after conducting an experiment at a school in Fukushima City on Sunday. The ministry says that burying contaminated soil 50 centimeters underground reduced the overall radiation level by 90 percent.

After the nuclear accident at the Fukushima Daiichi power plant, schools in the prefecture have been restricting outdoor activities. Radiation levels in soil at all the schools, except for one, remain within the official limit for children playing outdoors.

Schools in the cities of Koriyama and Date have removed the topsoil in their schoolyards as a precaution. But schools have not been able to get the soil transported away from the premises because of the lack of government disposal guidelines for irradiated soil.

@Rob in SF exactly, no mention of the releases. With all that steam and it went on for four hours there had to be some increase. Someone mentioned Radnet on the coast is seeing increases now.

I wonder if the west side has sunk so we can see more of the south edge...

Let's hope the reactor is so well anchored that the portion of wall that will hit it won't push it over.

If you think about it, the odds that a demolished shell of a building that's already tipping will remain standing for the remainder of the crisis, which will be months, has gotta be very low.

they are working to shore it up though... whether they can is another matter...
