  • @bo, they said that the mushrooms are one of the first to get radiation in them. That is why they have banned all mushrooms in Japan right now.
    by wtm 5/15/2011 4:42:54 AM

  • And, wow. That high on the west coast? Ugh.
    by bo 5/15/2011 4:42:56 AM

  • @wtm I feel like I am still seeing mushrooms in the stores here. I'll check and report back.
    by bo 5/15/2011 4:43:34 AM

  • @bo LA and Sanfrancisco also have high background rads. Not sure of the source of that Cs-137 reading, Berkley has some pretty reliable data for the west coast.
    by Nancy 5/15/2011 4:44:13 AM

  • @bo The EURAD simulation had LA running at 1.2% of Tokyo.
    by Bobby1 5/15/2011 4:44:22 AM

  • @Bo, take your counter with you !! Of course, that will really freak them out ?
    by wtm 5/15/2011 4:44:22 AM

  • @Bobby1 what are the box filter readings for LA or the CA coast?
    by Nancy 5/15/2011 4:45:01 AM

  • @Bobby1 wow. @wtm if I take the monitor with me everyone will freak out. Does my reluctance make me like the GOJ?
    by bo 5/15/2011 4:45:13 AM

  • @smoss Now you know why the fire at #4SFP scared everyone so very much. All that Cs-137 volatilizing into the air .
    by Reed 5/15/2011 4:45:15 AM

  • @Reed, wait till #4 falls over and dumps all of it on the ground.....
    by wtm 5/15/2011 4:45:56 AM

  • @Nancy Can't remember, they are so old they are obsolete.
    by Bobby1 5/15/2011 4:46:00 AM

  • @wtm NRC will probably do nothing...not cost effective to retrofit/reinforce current SPFs, although maybe will re-think how densely they are allowing rods to be stored there.
    by smoss 5/15/2011 4:46:06 AM

  • @Smoss, can't believe the engineers who dreamed that design up ?
    by wtm 5/15/2011 4:47:08 AM

  • @Bobby1 what is so old it is obsolete?
    by Nancy 5/15/2011 4:47:31 AM

  • @Nancy Box filter readings for CA.
    by Bobby1 5/15/2011 4:50:27 AM

  • @Bobby1 when were the last ones done?
    by Nancy 5/15/2011 4:51:25 AM

  • bobby1 where are you getting data for LA? EPA isn't showing it as high right now- either is www.enviroreporter.com - I am not saying it is not, I just want to find out.
    by inCalifornia 5/15/2011 4:52:51 AM

  • @wtm my wife verifies that the stores here are as full of fresh mushrooms as ever.
    by bo 5/15/2011 4:54:40 AM

  • berkley just posted an air results update www.nuc.berkeley.edu
    by inCalifornia 5/15/2011 4:54:48 AM

  • @Nancy April 1, a couple milk readings slightly later.
    by Bobby1 5/15/2011 4:56:08 AM

  • @bo Here's the new information about WSPEEDI that Bobby1 discovered earlier today... onihutari.blog60.fc2.com As a journalist you may know a reporter who's willing to reveal such shocking information to the public. The fact that areas of Tokyo have levels of Cs-137 like these estimated by the GOJ's own data source is worth a report or two.
    by Reed 5/15/2011 4:56:40 AM

  • Prime Minister Naoto Kan is scheduled to attend the Group of Eight summit later this month and is expected to explain what the government is planning to do to stabilize the situation at the Fukushima plant, as well as in rebuilding areas struck by the Great East Japan Earthquake.

    by smoss 5/15/2011 4:57:05 AM

  • @smoss take care!
    by bo 5/15/2011 4:57:41 AM

  • @smoss Ditto.
    by Reed 5/15/2011 4:57:45 AM

  • From the Group of Eight only Russia is interested in the truth . They sell petroleum and gas... all the others have Glass Roof ...
by Majjham Zazen 5/15/2011 4:59:17 AM

  • @Reed, not a journalist, I just play one in my own imagination. But can you give me a very brief walk through of the data. Are the green areas the ones where you mentioned that the Chernobyl contamination areas still included significant birth defects?
    by bo 5/15/2011 4:59:47 AM

  • @Bobby1 uh a couple of milk readings don't equate that LA is full of more cesium than Tokyo....
Berkeley's latest testing shows everything in CA has dropped lower and stayed there. This is a good thing, though 0 would be preferable levels.
    by Nancy 5/15/2011 5:03:20 AM

  • Hi all! I've been gone since the 5.2 EQ earlier today..anything new or important happen?

  • @Reed - are you still here?
    by Maureen 5/15/2011 5:05:54 AM

  • @Veen Oui throwing empty bottles of Beam all over the place! :-)
    by Nancy 5/15/2011 5:06:02 AM

  • @bo I believe that birth defects and numerous other health effects are created at that level of exposure to the I-131 that is shown on that map. Here's the english link to Oni Oni as well. onioni2.blogspot.com
    by Reed 5/15/2011 5:06:47 AM

  • @Maureen Hi Maureen. Yes.
    by Reed 5/15/2011 5:07:05 AM

  • @Nancy No no, 1.2% as much as Tokyo, per EURAD. Not 1.2% more.
    by Bobby1 5/15/2011 5:08:01 AM

  • @panserbjorne9 I can tell. Was that the highlight of the evening?
    by LM 5/15/2011 5:09:01 AM

  • @LM it kinda has been. he was very upset earlier, and has since been... less upset.
    by Panserbjorne9 5/15/2011 5:09:40 AM

  • @LM, had an 4.7 a little while ago.
    by wtm 5/15/2011 5:09:46 AM

  • @Bobby1 what is EURAD
    by Nancy 5/15/2011 5:09:47 AM

  • @bo You're very welcome. I hope that the information can help someone.
