Data taken at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant on the night of March 11 showing a high level of radiation at a reactor building suggest the possibility that key facilities there may have been damaged by the quake itself that day rather than tsunami-caused power loss that failed the reactor's cooling function, a utility source said Saturday.
The revelation may call for a review of preparedness against quakes at various nuclear power stations in Japan as they have primarily focused on securing auxiliary power supplies and embankment enhancement against tsunami after the Fukushima plant crisis, assuming that reactor facilities at the plant were unscathed by trembling.
On March 11, the power plant was shut down automatically just past 2:46 p.m. following the magnitude-9 quake. Within an hour, it was hit by at least two rounds of tsunami waves. - @LM, don't see how they can think otherwise ? A mag 9 quake is huge, and just llok at the cracks in the concrete around the plant. It had to move some of that ground underneath the reactors, and shake the insides pretty good. From what I could see, other than the piping going to the reactors in the Containment vessel, there is no supports holding the reactor vessel from moving around. It had to torque those pipes. - @Bo, don't get the cams mixed up, there is the Teppy cam, which is TEPCO's plant cam, and there is the TBS/JNN cam which is up in the mountains somewhere, and TEPCO doesn't like it. The one your referring to is the TBS cam. They do close ups at least once a day, but there is no schedule, I guess when ever they feel like it, and unannounced !!by wtm 5/15/2011 5:58:55 AM

I know its been determined to be a crane, but watching the video I took earlier today. and seeing how this "crane" came up it just didn't sit right. If it was moving it down the road, I would believe it was equipment being moved in, but this does not move, only the direction of the "crane" moves from left to right and back. It has also shown up, in the same place, on different days. Is it possible that TEPCO is dumping the water in this area? Perhaps the "missing" water? I could see them using the rational that the ground is already contaminated, no one will ever live there again. Unfortunately, youtube said my video is too long and I have not figured out how to cut it down yet! But watching it, it looks more like a stream of high power water than a crane, just saying. i1097.photobucket.com
