  • @Ian I agree with Edano...super videos!
    by LM 5/17/2011 10:55:16 PM

  • Wow! What's going on with USGS? There appears to be almost an hour lag in listing Japan EQs. They had a 4.4 and 4.7 within the last 2 hours.
    by LM 5/17/2011 11:00:09 PM

  • Thanks again Edano and LM! :) I've been working on a very complex video for over a week, but news keeps evolving that will affect its content -- like the recent isotopic-data analysis that seems to support the criticality theory -- so it's always back to the drawing board to some annoying extent.

  • German minister wants aging reactors shut down

German Environment Minister Norbert Roettgen has suggested that the nation's 7 aging nuclear reactors, now offline, should be shut down permanently.

Following Japan's post-earthquake nuclear accident in Fukushima, Chancellor Angela Merkel's government ordered the nuclear safety commission to administer checks on 17 of the country's reactors. 7 were taken offline in March.

The results of the safety checks were submitted to Roettgen on Tuesday.

The commission has studied cases in which nuclear plants were hit by a flood, earthquake or aircraft and lost all electrical capability to cool down their reactors.

The seven reactors were rated at the lowest safety level. None is protected against the impact of large aircraft, and some cannot withstand the crash of a small plane.

After receiving the results, Roettgen hinted that the old 7 reactors should be shuttered permanently.

Merkel is expected to announce Germany's new energy policy next month.
