  • Strange isn't it that most of the steam/smoke/flame happens during the Japanese night?
    by hudebnik 5/23/2011 3:51:13 PM

  • A couple of things about this I noticed. I am not seeing the heat waves we get at other times of day that mimic movement. The spot moving could not be the red putzmeisters. There isn't anything that would make them wave, change shape and dance like that.
    by Nancy 5/23/2011 3:51:52 PM

  • @Nancy well captured!!
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 3:52:09 PM

  • @hudebnik Agreed. I want to know what the difference is. Are they monitoring less at night? Allowing things to happen on purpose at night? I would think a fire serves no relief purpose and would not be intentional.
    by Nancy 5/23/2011 3:52:48 PM

  • I wonder if the putzmeisters will get used for the concrete needed in 4.
by Markfm edited by Markfm 5/23/2011 3:53:00 PM

  • @ Nancy awsome ty . Odd both 3 and 4 fires started almost simultaneously???
    by ch 5/23/2011 3:54:47 PM

  • I'm guessing they may have far fewer people on site overnight in order to reduce their rad exposure. Maybe they all have to be indoors by 1900 in time for venting or whatever to take place (at 1906 precisely!)
    by hudebnik 5/23/2011 3:55:07 PM

  • I can see some rationale for watering the SFP's at night -when fewer workers about & fewer prying eyes, but certainly not fires...
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 3:55:11 PM

  • @hudebnik ah! Think we're making same point!
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 3:55:41 PM

  • I don't recall seeing a fire in 3 before -anyone else?
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 3:57:39 PM

  • Smoke more visible from 3 now.
    by LM 5/23/2011 3:57:46 PM

  • @UKVal I noticed orange spots last night at 3 and 4 But it was closer to sunrise...which left room for doubt..with sun magic.
    by LM 5/23/2011 3:59:15 PM

  • @Nancy- Sunflower pic on other page.
by Maureen Burke 5/23/2011 3:59:30 PM

  • I also don't think it is welding work or lighting. The effect would be quite different.
    by Nancy 5/23/2011 3:59:45 PM

  • @Nancy yep - there was welding work in 1 of the early vids -a few people got excited I remember till it was explained....
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 4:00:37 PM

  • @Nancy I agree..There really aren't any other options that make sense.
    by LM 5/23/2011 4:01:31 PM

  • The flames are far too big for welding I would think..and that color orange doesn't go with the lighting.
    by LM 5/23/2011 4:03:02 PM

  • anyone care to speculate what might be on fire -surely not the fuel rods in the SPF's?
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 4:03:28 PM

  • @LM -different colour produced by welding...
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 4:03:50 PM

  • @UKVal I suspected. Thanks!
    by LM 5/23/2011 4:04:58 PM

  • page with the fire pics www.houseoffoust.com
    by Nancy 5/23/2011 4:05:03 PM

  • @Nancy you're amazing - & so quick!
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 4:05:52 PM

  • @UKVal too far left for SFP. I can't tell for sure the forward to back orientation. Either work deck rubble by the end of the crane or near the reactor well
    by Nancy 5/23/2011 4:06:09 PM

  • @Nancy Thanks..maybe that'll light a fire under them....pun intended.
    by LM 5/23/2011 4:06:24 PM

  • @UKVal or just lucky. I stopped to drink a coffee before I dove back into work or I would have missed it all.
    by Nancy 5/23/2011 4:06:39 PM

  • @Nancy I agree it must be something like that... but the mechanism for starting such a fire puzzles (& alarms) me!
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 4:07:24 PM

  • Looking again I think it is near the reactor well. Do we have hot enough temps to start rubble on fire?
    by Nancy 5/23/2011 4:07:25 PM

  • @Nancy -which reactor?
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 4:08:20 PM

  • @Nancy can you catch 4? It seems to beinside wall but flares out opening occ.
    by ch 5/23/2011 4:08:57 PM

  • In 3 it looks as if most of the orange might be glowing metal - but it is hard to tell.
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 4:10:53 PM

  • @UKVal I don't think we could see glowing metal that many miles away? Is the flame at 4 inside the sfp area?
    by Nancy 5/23/2011 4:11:31 PM

  • @Nancy I'm with ch... I think I see flashing/flaring in openings of 4. can you capture? can anyone record??
    by Meretisa 5/23/2011 4:12:25 PM

  • if you look at the closeup video from last morning that deb postet, at excectly that point is red/orang rubble... maby it is just light on that rubbel? www.youtube.com
    by me 5/23/2011 4:12:48 PM

  • @Nancy i'm not sure -the cam is remarkable good.....
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 4:12:55 PM

  • @Nancy Just below the blue glow wall on the right side of the dilapidated wall right near tree line..you can see orange with smoke.
    by LM 5/23/2011 4:12:56 PM

  • @LM i see it - think it was there on another night too
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 4:13:47 PM

  • @UKVal Definitely..yesterday before sunrise with a smoke plume as well.
    by LM 5/23/2011 4:14:28 PM

  • I've seen fire in same place on 4- don't remember when. Looks like ground floor so guessing not SFP.
    by ch 5/23/2011 4:15:54 PM

  • I'll be away now for several hours - good luck with the firewatching.
    by hudebnik 5/23/2011 4:15:56 PM

  • You can see smoke from both and flickering...not orange rubble..just my opinion.
    by LM 5/23/2011 4:16:05 PM

  • compared to last night the steam/ smoke is 'streaming' rather than 'billowing' - don't think this is to do with wind, but a quality of whatever is being emitted
    by UKVal 5/23/2011 4:16:39 PM

  • @LM agree.
    by ch 5/23/2011 4:17:34 PM

  • @UKVal You're right. It's behaving like smoke from a fire source.
    by LM 5/23/2011 4:18:01 PM

  • @LM I thought i saw that yesterday too, as well as an orange spot bottom left of 4, but was unsure as there was little movement. Now I def. think that's fire in/near 3.
