  • @dtucker have you seen the new vid of the basement steaming
    by elainekirk 6/4/2011 4:06:07 PM

  • unit 1 drywell is at atmospheric pressure also anyway
    by xxx 6/4/2011 4:06:24 PM

  • @fitter We are on the same page sir. Doubt until proven, always! You take care also, I'll see you on here and we can help filter out the crap together :)
by Dennis Tucker Jr 6/4/2011 4:06:25 PM

  • @fitter and thanks for the heads up on viruses.... I'm usually paranoid anyways about that kind of thing so I will be extra careful!!
by Dennis Tucker Jr 6/4/2011 4:07:13 PM

  • @Elaine, no, I haven't, I did see a pic of a pipe pouring out steam. But your question seems to answer itself (to me) now.... :(
by Dennis Tucker Jr 6/4/2011 4:08:00 PM

  • @Dennis Tucker Jr sounds good! Have you seen NKListner... he must of fell off the earth.. have not seen him anywere?
    by fitter 6/4/2011 4:08:00 PM

  • @fitter No, I hadn't seen him post on here since maybe 2 weeks ago... wasn't he in Japan?? I hope all is ok with him!!
by Dennis Tucker Jr 6/4/2011 4:08:53 PM

  • Since you are asking, what happened to dean ?
veenie I hope they will all be back I am guessing they just needed a breather
by Veenie edited by elainekirk 6/4/2011 4:09:37 PM

  • @xxx Well with noiling water and atmospheric pressure, I'd agree that it is open to air. I would like a little more evidence to prove that before assuming such a catastrophe has taken place tho :/

by Dennis Tucker Jr 6/4/2011 4:10:31 PM

  • what catastrophe ? unit 2 and 3 are also at atmospheric pressure...
    by xxx 6/4/2011 4:11:15 PM

  • this is new only for unit 1
    by xxx 6/4/2011 4:11:41 PM

  • #1 basement steam

    by elainekirk 6/4/2011 4:11:55 PM

  • @Veenie, like Elaine edited your post, After the first 6 weeks I also HAD to take the break also, it has side-effects that you don't really realize until you are worn down. Like me, I am sure they will return when they feel up to it.

  • Well, as long as Elaine is around, we know the board is working )
Elaines dayghters b/day been out eaten too much food and spent too much on the penny pushers brilliant fun :)
by Veenie edited by elainekirk 6/4/2011 4:14:19 PM

  • @Elaine thanks for the vid... the velocity is scary but the volume isn't as much as I would expect but then again, where else is the steam escaping, right?!?! Bad signs, bad signs..

@xxx but we arent seeing the same things as #1 from those two reactors currently. Personally, I thought #3 had melted through as of Mar 16-17 (overnight)...
by Dennis Tucker Jr 6/4/2011 4:15:32 PM

  • We all have to back off once in a while. Beating your head against a stone wall takes its toll. I notice now Nancy is in out-rotation.
    by radioguy 6/4/2011 4:16:19 PM

  • @xxx but in the same sense, there were no severe readings at the time- maybe simply because they couldn't accurately measure them...? I dunno....
by Dennis Tucker Jr 6/4/2011 4:16:45 PM

  • @Dennis Tucker Jr - welcome back Dennis, missed your input around here.

  • Fukushima, USA We ought to end this whole nuclear business right now. By William A. Collins www.otherwords.org
    Promoters say
    To have no fear;
    We know it couldn't
    Happen here.

Just to be sure we're all on the same page, here are a few things we ought to acknowledge right off the bat about nuclear power:

It's the most costly form of electricity.
    It's also the most dangerous.
It's enormously subsidized by the federal government.
It contributes a lot more to climate change than you'd think.
And about the nuclear power industry, which:

    Has a cozy relationship with the watchdogs that supposedly regulate it;
    Spends a fortune on lobbying, campaign contributions, and false advertising;
Is exempt from most liability in case of disaster; and
    Lies.
    by Tenzing 6/4/2011 4:28:02 PM

  • @Tenzing 100% agree. Look at TEPCO... bailed out by everyone just so they wouldn't sink.... but the CEO's still bring home a paycheck right? No accountability, no punishment, keep making your $$.... If it were a private citizen- they'd be in jail already.
by Dennis Tucker Jr 6/4/2011 4:30:48 PM

  • @xxx Have they indicated that they will stop injecting water?? If so, why would they bother setting up all that desal/decon equipment??
by Dennis Tucker Jr 6/4/2011 4:33:01 PM

  • @Lethbridgean lol, I accepted before I read ALL of the message now I can't retrieve it!!!
by Dennis Tucker Jr 6/4/2011 4:34:30 PM

  • @Lethbridgean @Dennis Tucker Jr I'm thinking it wont be long and GE (aka USA FED's) will own Japan, just my opinion.
    by Tenzing 6/4/2011 4:35:14 PM

  • @Tenzing The better solution would be letting Japan own GE (imo)

  • USA We ought to end this whole nuclear business right now. By William A. Collins Another advantage the industry enjoys is the length of time it takes for irradiated victims to die. Most end up with cancer, which incubates and kills rather slowly. Thus there is always the argument that many sufferers would have gotten cancer anyway. The scope of the disaster is never as immediately plain as it was with, say, Union Carbide's 1984 Bhopal calamity.

But the deaths are no less real. Health statisticians calculate that by now over 900,000 victims have died from the Chernobyl accident. www.otherwords.org

  • Japan nuclear plant gets radioactive water tanks
Tanks for storing radioactive water were on their way Saturday to the crippled nuclear power plant in northeastern Japan where reactor cores melted after the massive earthquake and tsunami.
Two of the 370 tanks were due to arrive Saturday from a manufacturer in nearby Tochigi prefecture (state), TEPCO said. Two hundred of them can store 100 tons, and 170 can store 120 tons.
The tanks will continue arriving through August, and will store a total of 40,000 tons of radioactive water.
TEPCO also said robots with cameras that entered Unit 1—one of the three reactors whose cores have melted—found Friday that steam was spewing from the floor. Nationally televised news Saturday showed blurry video of steady smoke curling up from an opening in the reactor floor.
The radioactive fumes were suspected to be coming from the suppression pool area, which is near the reactor core.
Nuclear fuel rods are believed to have melted almost completely and sunk to the bottom of three reactor containers, although falling short of a complete meltdown, in which case the fuel would have melted entirely through the container bottoms.

In one progress update, TEPCO said workers were successful in attaching additional pressure monitors at Unit 1. The plan is to keep adding pressure-reading equipment at all three hobbled reactors. The ones already there may have been damaged by the tsunami and quake, and may not be working properly.
TEPCO has promised to bring the plant under control by January, but doubts are growing that the plan was too optimistic. The plan calls for a reprocessing system for the radioactive water by June 15, with hopes of reusing the water as coolant in the reactors.

  • @all: I'm gonna sign off for a while, it's a nice warm day outside and I do have some things to do. Thank you for the very kind words and I will be back on more regularly than I have been lately to hopefully contribute as best as I can. Always remember that logic prevails and emotions blur the mind sometimes- anything is possible until you disprove it 100%. The group on here is a great mix of common sense and science, so keep all the ideas flowing!!

    Have a great afternoon all!

  • this is a fukushima daini update is it any cause for concern?
<Updates from previous press release are underlined.>
Reactor cooling and filtering system of Unit 4 was restored at 10:00pm on
    June 4th.
We have been cooling the reactor by residual heat removal system (B). We
expect that the restoration of the reactor cooling system, which functions
to cool the reactor, will contribute to securing further reliability of
Unit 4, which has been in cold shutdown,
At the same time, we will endeavor to restore the facilities, aiming for
further reliability of cold shutdown in the rest of the units

    * Reactor cooling and filtering system
A system to remove impurities from reactor water and to maintain its
quality. During the regular inspections or reactor shutdowns, it can be
utilized to discharge surplus water in the reactor and to control the
    water level.
The reactor cooling and filtering systems of Units 1 to 4 at the Fukushima
Daini Nuclear Power Station had been unusable due to shutdown of sea water
cooling systems, which serve to cool the reactor cooling and filtering
systems, as a result of tsunami caused by Tohoku-Chihou-Taiheiyou-Oki
    Earthquake.
