  • There was a crane visible a bit ago on teppycam--seemed to have a lifting block and hook maybe, first seemed to be doing some at the southwest corner of #1 and then went diagonally over to the right side of the black hose tube and then it moved back to the vertical and disappeared like a periscope. It's an odd sensation watching the site.

    June 4, 2011 Evening
Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant accident, TEPCO four days, we obtained the radiation dose on the first floor robot reactor Unit 1 mSv of radiation dose per hour hundred forty largest locally in southeastern announced the measure.
Earthquake occurs, a driver - were in the highest radiation dose was measured in the reactor building of Unit 3. According to video footage shot by the robot at this point there is a pressure suppression chamber pipe leading to the basement, it was confirmed that the steam rose from the floor and pipe joints.
TEPCO "pressure suppression chamber water temperature was about fifty times in which water has accumulated high levels of radioactive contamination leaking from the reactor. With steam from the water pollution has occurred, the junction of the floor and plumbing rose from the damaged portions of the "He showed a view that contains a high amount of steam radiation.
When the robot is measured at the same point on the thirteenth day of May, because the two measures Yes Yes Yes mSv per hour, this time, TEPCO was investigated in detail.
According to TEPCO, at this point, the circulation of cooling for the reactor operation has been planned in the future where intrude, that no direct impact on the work. www.tokyo-np.co.jp

    June 4, at 51 minutes 13
Nuclear melt down "meltdown" in the reactor building of Unit 1 of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station is expected to Toukyoudenryoku happened to the survey put the robot, the steam rising from the gap between the floor and piping, found that the radiation dose was measured extremely high mSv per hour near its 4000.
In Unit 1 of Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant, the "meltdown" a hole in the reactor, seen as too damaged containment vessel also has accumulated a large amount of water in the basement of the reactor leaked high levels of pollution . The roadmap towards the convergence of the accident, move it out through the cold water pipe pollution, plans to build a recycling system that re-inserted into a reactor, in a full-scale preparation reactor are underway. Thus, three days into the reactor building teleoperator radio, conducted a survey of internal state. As a result, the double doors near the southeast side of the ground floor, has been confirmed that the steam rose up from the pipes have come up from the floor space. In this area, 3000 per hour - is that the radiation dose was measured extremely high 4000 mSv. The reactor building of Unit 1 had a high radiation dose is measured in mSv per hour on June 13 2000, this value is the highest radiation dose was measured at Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant so far value. TEPCO, try the steam that leaked out of the water of about 50 degrees have a lot of pressure control chamber of the reactor building basement, trying to further analysis. TEPCO, for now, the high radiation dose was measured because this place is limited, impact on work and has less radiation dose is extremely high, and interfere with future work Do not proceed to consider it.

  • Report From Tokyo: How Long Should TEPCO Call the Shots? Since the tragic March 11th earthquake in Japan, Tokyo Electric Power (TEPCO) has been allowed to manage information flow related to the nuclear crisis at Fukushima. And ever since that date, there have been multiple examples of inaccurate information being released to the public.

So one has to wonder how long TEPCO should call the shots. There is something inherently wrong with allowing the hen to rule the hen house. Yet that is what is happening. www.huffingtonpost.com

  • Steam, high radiation detected at No.1 reactor

The operator of the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant says steam was observed coming out of the floor of the No.1 reactor building, and extremely high radiation was detected in the vicinity.

www3.nhk.or.jp I know we already have articles on this but this one has video on it of #1 with the date 3/6/11 so I am posting incase Nancy hasnt seen it yet.

  • Edano denies Kan will stay put until after turn of year
    TOKYO, June 4, Kyodo

Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano on Saturday denied that Prime Minister Naoto Kan will remain in office until the turn of the year and indicated he will step down by the summer, even as ruling and opposition lawmakers renewed calls for Kan's immediate resignation.

The comments by the top government spokesman came in the wake of further political strife triggered by the prime minister's remarks on Thursday night suggesting he plans to remain in office until around January.

Executives of the ruling Democratic Party of Japan led by Kan may have judged that they need to get the situation under control after senior DPJ members began to voice their concerns over Kan's remarks. Nevertheless, it remains unclear whether the prime minister will actually step down at an early date.

  • A reading on March 12th, one day after the massive earthquake and tsunami hit the plant, shows that radioactive tellurium was detected 7 kilometers away. Tellurium is produced during the melting of nuclear fuel.

Three hours before the data was collected, the government expanded the radius of the evacuation area around the plant from 3 kilometers to 10 kilometers. www3.nhk.or.jp

  • This was interesting from the "Govt failed to release radiation data" article though.....

The government's Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency reported at a news conference several hours later that the nuclear fuel was intact.

The government also failed to disclose the high radiation levels in weeds 30 to 50 kilometers from the plant. On March 15th, 123 million becquerels of radioactive iodine-131 per kilogram were detected 38 kilometers northeast of the plant.

The nuclear safety agency says it deeply regrets not releasing the data.

Professor Yasuyuki Muramatsu of Gakushuin University says radioactive iodine has a high effect on children. He says that if the data had been released earlier, more measures could have been taken to protect them from exposure.

  • Again, bears repeating:

The nuclear safety agency says it deeply regrets not releasing the data.

  • It seems like pretty active steam for 122 degree water making it's way out of a pipe seal from the basement below into an already warm building. Feels almost like steam that's being currently heated or is under a little pressure?

  • @elainekirk Hi Elaine...you just read my mind. :)
    by Reed 6/4/2011 9:20:50 AM

  • She reads everybody's mind who's watched what happened from the power of the last big one, and from the power of water, and from the danger of assuming it can't happen here, and if we don't think about it or talk about it we're safe, we can trust the experts and those who should be watching out for us.
    by Mart 6/4/2011 9:24:49 AM

  • @reed it really is time that we disbanded these 'agencies' and moved towards a system where 'problems' were thrashed out properly by those best qualified . Why is Mike Weightman running the iaea's involvement? his only 'experience' of nuclear is 13yrs work in non earthquake plants never has he actually come near to dealing with a situation like this
    by elainekirk 6/4/2011 9:27:03 AM

    by xxx 6/4/2011 9:37:05 AM

  • @elainekirk The more I learn about IAEA...the less I believe in that system. You're right about the need for experts. The international community should use individuals with experience and expertise with such issues not political functionaries.

    @Mart :) Yes, Elaine's our Wizard!

  • I have lookd at tepco site and meti and it seems tepco are releasing news through nhk how clever of them they dont have to qualify anything, they are following the 'keep public informed' rules, they really have got this their way havent they you cant ask nhk for further info you cant ask them to qualify
No mention on their site beyond the video
    by elainekirk 6/4/2011 9:45:11 AM

  • TEPCo "has announced that beginning tomorrow it will begin shipping two sizes of tanks (100 and 120 cubic meters in volume) from Tamada Kogyo Corporation's plant in Tochigi Prefecture to the Fukushima Daiichi site for installation. These will supplement all the other tanks being installed on site, and the "mega float" now firmly secured to the pier at the site. The company expects most of the shipments to be performed at night, and expects about six of the large units per day to be shipped from now until early July, and four units per day of the smaller size from the middle of June through the middle of August. This will vastly increase the capacity for contaminated and then later for cleaned-up water on site." atomicpowerreview.blogspot.com
