  • @jt : they do not say "exlosion", they say "odd noise was heard from around suppression chamber at unit-2, followed by a drop in the chamber's pressure, suggesting the development of an abnormal event at the chamber and left holes in the walls at unit-4". this is tepco language and means explosion.
by Edano edited by Edano 6/7/2011 9:39:55 PM

  • @jt what do you want ? it's the same ?
    by Edano 6/7/2011 9:40:39 PM

  • @edano I agree that noise=explosion. And ==> that the noise that damaged 4 was an explosion from 2 that damaged 4. Bobby1 suggests it's from 3. It's plausible.

  • (sorry for the typing, but too many things running and Firefox may crash)
    by jt 6/7/2011 9:44:03 PM

  • @jt : how should #2 damage #4 ?
    by Edano 6/7/2011 9:44:27 PM

  • @edano 06:14 Loud noise left holes in the walls at unit-4. They state it. If they are connected below, and the blast went down rather than up (where did the blast from 2 go?) then it explains the force of the blast coming up under 4.
    by jt 6/7/2011 9:47:15 PM

  • @jt do you have a confirmation that #2 and 4 are connected ?
    by Edano 6/7/2011 9:48:38 PM

  • @jt btw: your link seems wrong, i can see no timeline.
by Edano edited by Edano 6/7/2011 9:50:09 PM

  • @ edano Do you have any confirmation that they are not connected? In these days of 24/7 satellite coverage, I would be surprised if they weren't connected.

  • @ edano Go to
    www.gengikyo.jp

    Download
Nuclear Power Stations' Response to the Off the Pacific Coast of Tohoku Earthquake -- you need to download the document. It contains a timeline. I believe lillymunster downloaded it and found a timeline.
    by jt 6/7/2011 9:53:18 PM

  • @jt so why don't you preovide this link: www.gengikyo.jp ?

  • OK common spent fuel how do they transport from sfp 's in units to the common ?

  • @elainekirk Would you please correct my earlier post ?
I said 'NISA' when I should have said 'IAEA' in two places.
    Thank you.

    by elainekirk 6/7/2011 10:03:37 PM

  • @elainekirk "Again, a brilliant design by GE, having the power supply in the basement in a nuclear power plant right by the ocean in an earthquake/tsunami-prone country."
That's the real question and problem that boggles the mind.

    G20 Energy debate...
    "PARIS —
Energy officials at talks on preventing nuclear disasters were divided Tuesday over how much atomic plants should be open to neighborly scrutiny, and if the world should shun or embrace nuclear power.
Countries abandoning nuclear energy, such as Germany, defended their choice in front of host country France - a strong nuclear power proponent, while India - eager to build new nuclear reactors to keep up with growing energy demand - argued that "there is no alternative." "

Ministry failed to publish some radiation data

The Japanese government says it failed to publish some radiation data from the nuclear accident at the Fukushima Daiichi plant.

The science and technology ministry says it did not release radiation monitoring data from March 16th through April 4th and radiation measurements for soil on March 16th and 17th. The data was taken by the Fukushima prefectural government outside a 20-kilometer radius of the plant.

The ministry apologized for not disclosing the data.
It says it thought the Fukushima government had already released it.

The data was collected as a reference for deciding on evacuation measures and restrictions on food and water consumption. The ministry says the unpublished information does not affect the steps that are now in place.

The ministry says it will publish the data on its website.

  • @ "It says it thought the Fukushima government had already released it." How can they get away with making statements like this?
    by jt 6/7/2011 10:58:55 PM

  • @elainekirk well I havent hit any walls so far this morning so thats a good thing! lol lets see how I go for the rest of the day as it seems to get worse as the day goes on! • @elainekirk I guess the neighbours not buying their goods and not visiting is the only thing they will listen too.
    by jt 6/7/2011 11:05:43 PM

  • @Dean Hello stranger!!! We keep missing each other! how are you?
    by Angie 6/7/2011 11:07:56 PM

  • it is still incredible that a small company with limited experience (and very limited money) is about to manage the biggest nuclear disaster in history, letting out the radiation into international oceans and international air. the time has long come to force them to cooperate with international knowledge, hardware and control personnel. this is too big and too important (and too expensive) for a simple energy producing and vending company.
    by Edano 6/7/2011 11:08:40 PM

  • doing well Angie.. it's good seeing your name..

  • this is what the public need some clear pictures that show that what they are seeing is the tip of the iceberg because they look at the photos and think a basement full of water is just like their cellar being flooded www.tepco.co.jp

    by elainekirk 6/7/2011 11:21:37 PM

  • If the nuclear industry was forced to carry private insurance (with its safety standard oversights), then imagine what changes pressures from companies like these could create...

    " Insurer Losses :
Munich Re, the world’s biggest reinsurer, said last month it had a quarterly loss of 947 million euros ($1.4 billion) on claims related to the disasters. Berkshire Hathaway Inc., run by billionaire Warren Buffett, said the Japan disaster alone may lead to costs of about $1.1 billion for its insurance segment. American International Group Inc. (AIG)’s first-quarter profit slumped 85 percent in part on costs tied to earthquakes."
From: Japan Quake Reinsurance Rates Rise as Much as 60% www.bloomberg.com
    by Reed 6/7/2011 11:38:55 PM

  • @Reed : they cannot afford insurance, because this would make the nuke power so expensive that customers could not afford electricity anymore. that is the real price of the "cheap" nuclear energie !
by Edano edited by Edano 6/7/2011 11:41:25 PM

  • @Edano That, Sir, is exactly my point. :)
    by Reed 6/7/2011 11:42:55 PM

  • @elainekirk : nono, the München Rück only covers the non-nuclear damage. the nuclear things are not insured.
    by Edano 6/7/2011 11:45:01 PM

  • tepco has to pay - in other words - the japanese taxpayers.
    by Edano 6/7/2011 11:46:24 PM

  • ty ty ty elaine.. mmmmmmmmmm
    by Dean 6/7/2011 11:46:36 PM

  • @elainekirk @Edano If there was binding legislation requiring private insurance, then the power companies would be forced to explore other alternatives.

@Dean Hi Dean. Good to see you. :)
    by Reed 6/7/2011 11:47:54 PM

  • hi Reed .. likewise
    by Dean 6/7/2011 11:48:12 PM

  • @Reed : i think i read that there is no insurance willing to cover the risk. they would simply go bancrupt.
