  • Wind power is somewhat better, but you need a relative big turbine to make a dent.

  • @Bobby1 : that's why there are woods of unused windmills in california. all rubbish by now.

  • @WolfDK you get more than 100 watts out of the newer solar set ups. We also have urban wind potential where I am at. These are small and can go where large turbines can't. www.motorwavegroup.com bonus, they are pretty cheap. I want to put these on our huge garage roof. www.oksolar.com

  • @Edano This should have addressed 30 years ago, what a waste. The US political system is really the root cause of these problems. And it's not a question of who is president. I don't know the answer.
    by Bobby1 6/8/2011 1:23:51 AM

  • @lillymunster solar: Yep, but thats peak eg max output, and you never get there unless you live in the desert, calculate with around 60% of that.
    by WolfDK 6/8/2011 1:24:10 AM

  • @Bobby1 it becomes a circular argument. Get rid of the corporate influence but everyone in office depends on it to get elected, lather, rinse, repeat.
    by lillymunster 6/8/2011 1:25:23 AM

  • @Bobby1 : your problem is: 8 years of democratic efforts followed by 8 years of republican dinosaurs. i wonder if this 2 party system is a good model for the future.
    by Edano 6/8/2011 1:25:47 AM

  • @lillymunster If its the vertical turbines, yes they are pretty effective. Sorry i did not click your link, really really need to get some sleep.. continue the discussion tomorrow ?

  • IAEA to survey radioactive contamination in sea

The IAEA, the UN nuclear watchdog agency, is to survey the long-term effects of the spillage of radioactive water from the damaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power on the maritime environment in the Pacific Ocean.

The International Atomic Energy Agency made the decision at a regular meeting of board governors in Vienna on Tuesday.

Australia, South Korea and Indonesia will lead the survey on possible sea pollution in the Pacific Ocean and the East China Sea. www3.nhk.or.jp

  • Radioactive debris outside No.3 reactor removed

Workers have completed the removal of radioactive debris that was outside the No. 3 reactor building at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant.

Tokyo Electric Power Company finished removing the debris near the entrance to the building on Tuesday.
Work began last month to clear up the debris created by the March hydrogen explosion.

  • @AustralianCannonball well that is a first. I wonder what agency figured it out and was going to release the info? Bobby, were you not talking about isotopes that show up when burning concrete is in play?
Hope we get some honest calculations so we can estimate if it could burn through concrete.

  • Researcher: Fukushima Psychological Care Needs Underestimated A Japanese researcher who has studied the risk of cancer for those exposed to the Chernobyl accident is worried about a different kind of fallout for those near the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant. “One thing people haven’t really addressed is stress – depression, anxiety, PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder),” said Kiyohiko Mabuchi of the U.S. National Cancer Institute.

“Radiation levels at Fukushima are much lower than Chernobyl,” Dr. Mabuchi said in an interview. “But there will be a lot of psychological effects that have to be followed up.” Such effects, he said, have been “grossly underevaluated and underappreciated.” blogs.wsj.com
