    by dean 6/17/2011 2:07:05 AM

  • @dean :) I'm surprised there is no 'report' for the Ft Calhoun plant. Why would the Nebraska Public Power District company only have a preparedness plan for one of their plants, and not the other? Unless another power company is responsible for the Ft Calhoun district. ?
    by MaryW 6/17/2011 2:07:12 AM

  • @Angie they were high level intrusion threats
    by fitter 6/17/2011 2:07:41 AM

  • @Panserbjorne9 lol so I have read! lets hope everyone and every thing goes back to normal soon! lol @Fitter thank you for the warning! I will keep an eye on the virus scanner on my computer today! I cant find out who people ar e

  • @dean will you look to see if the SFP are in the containment bld?
    by fitter 6/17/2011 2:08:48 AM

  • at calhoun?
    by dean 6/17/2011 2:09:15 AM

  • @all Plutonium from reprocessed fuel is usually fabricated into MOX as soon as possible to avoid problems
with the decay of short-lived plutonium isotopes. In particular, Pu-241 (half-life 14 years) decays to Am-
241 which is a strong gamma emitter, giving rise to a potential occupational health hazard if separated
plutonium over five years old is used in a normal MOX plant. The Am-241 level in stored plutonium
increases about 0.5% per year, with corresponding decrease in fissile value of the plutonium. www.ne.doe.gov Does this decay of Pu241 continue while the MOX FAs sit in the SFP? If so, this becomes another issue with inserting old MOX into a reactor core (speaking of degredation of cladding as the other issue).

  • @ Angie.. did I miss something? I was on travel today
    by dean 6/17/2011 2:12:09 AM

  • @dean thanks. I'll keep searching too. Years back, I lived in Omaha...so I'm interested in what's happening there. But most of all, the flooding is causing concern for reactors in USA, our backyard.

  • @MaryW Lethbrigean said that he was getting a LOT of tracking cookies and Trojans from being on scribble. That was part of the discussion prior to the close. I'm on an iPad so I luck out.
    by Panserbjorne9 6/17/2011 2:14:33 AM

  • @dean , great thanks!

  • @MaryW no virus scan, we were discussing cookies I get 40 or so just doing nothing... but was shock to see the intrusion blocks... they all happened juring the afternoon, I went to do payroll and left pc on scribble came back, the board was closed and got a alert an the time was juring the hour before the board closed? did not know who .... me .... was or susiq???

    by Veenie 6/17/2011 2:17:35 AM

  • @fitter I'm sure 'Me' and 'Susiq' were regulars who logged in differently today. I don't think they had anything to do with your alerts.
    by Panserbjorne9 6/17/2011 2:18:30 AM

  • * The FORT CALHOUN spent fuel pool is in the ground, but being in the ground UNDER the Missouri River is not all good and wasn’t in the Combustion Engineering/Westinghouse design and operating plans. NOT FROM a reliable source only on comments from a web site... and not knows about if it's in containment
    by dean 6/17/2011 2:22:30 AM

  • hi lilly
    by dean 6/17/2011 2:22:35 AM

  • @fitter which made no sense. Their emails have been on this board the entire time.

  • The BAS posts on Ft. Calhoun: www.thebulletin.org
    by bo 6/17/2011 2:24:15 AM

  • @dean The OPPD brochure outlines the buildings and says the sfp is in the horse shoe shaped concrete building outside the containment building but next to it. It wraps around the outside of the containment building.
    by lillymunster 6/17/2011 2:24:33 AM

  • @smoss That's a very good question, given that the MOX in R3 was apparently fabricated in ... what, 1998? 96? 93? @lillymunster When was the earliest?
    by radioguy 6/17/2011 2:26:18 AM

  • If so. they're not only plutonium, but as a bonus, come pre-loaded with all kinds of americium?
    by radioguy 6/17/2011 2:27:40 AM

  • interesting lilly... wonder if the horse shoe building is very robustly designed.. dang.. and also,, where the common pool is if they have one
