  • Why is the unmoderated board STILL closed? I'm sure most would accept a couple posts being modded/deleted, cause someone didn't like what someone posted, rather than a total shutdown. Any ways is anyone here or is this one shut down too!?
    by NorthernCali 6/17/2011 6:18:04 AM

  • @NorthernCali Earliest tomorrow, they are hammering out the Constituion :-)
    by Veenie 6/17/2011 6:21:49 AM

  • @ veenie. Ok thanks.:) (Though that seems counterproductive and rather extreme. Like a democracy instilling martial law temporarily while they make amendments to structure the supposedly open discussion? Why not leave it on until " parameters are established and mod or erase it later if it gets out of hand. Less pissed off people and at least something might get done as far as progress. I'm afraid theyll lose alot of people here and this will turn into 10-20 regulars talking to eachother stuck in a boxed perspective trying to help but unable to reach many people. ). All right, end of thought though, I hope it is considered and not erased as I feel this us valid from my perspective as a contributed on these pages. :)
    by NorthernCali 6/17/2011 6:37:29 AM

  • @NorthernCali What Veenie said lol
    by Angie 6/17/2011 6:37:37 AM

  • @NorthernCali I wasnt here when the board shut and now its a group mod call I think.....will know more in about 2 hrs I would say!
    by Angie 6/17/2011 6:39:42 AM

  • @NorthernCali I see it like this :.we had scuffles and it escalated into a riot, so the Board, got arrested !...now we are all in Time Out till the case goes before the Judges, so we will have to obey mandates and probation .good news, I do not think it's over....bad news....some prolly won't pass the pissin test :-O
    by Veenie 6/17/2011 6:44:44 AM

  • On the other hand some of us could probably use a day or two off!( a scribble vacation) To rest, de-stress and step back from it all. Me personally I like lurking, learning real news and commenting when I feel I can add someting positive or beneficial to the conversation.
    by NorthernCali 6/17/2011 7:02:42 AM

  • In my opinion, in order for this site to really matter in the long-term, we have to make it relevant to the Japanese. I have heard it said, and I don't entirely disagree, that if the scope of the almost daily smoke/steam shows on the TeppyCam was known, then they would be afraid to go outside over there. Not that I want fear for the sake of fear, but that is the sort of passionate consciousness which would actually foment the necessary change on the part of the "powers that be". I would like to see more promotion and perhaps language translation from our relevant resources for the people of Japan!
    by wrshpr 6/17/2011 7:14:35 AM

  • Also, and forgive me if I have missed any previous, relevant discussion on this topic, but does anyone know why the TBS cam seems to consistently be defunct?
    by wrshpr 6/17/2011 7:17:07 AM

  • @carabnr nope. I was just away for a few.
    by bo 6/17/2011 7:18:40 AM

  • @wrshpr @NorthernCali Thank you for your thoughts.........And no idea why all the links die! mine do all the time for the TBS cam........Seems I am always asking for a new link! lol

    by Angie 6/17/2011 7:23:41 AM

  • @Angie agreed. I thought it was just me, but I keep finding nothing loaded and have to refresh the page to get new posts. Scrib is pouting.
    by bo 6/17/2011 7:24:43 AM

  • @bo Glad its not just me! lol I did a restart but the same keeps happening......maybe they are upgrading again?
    by Angie 6/17/2011 7:25:58 AM

  • @Angie no clue. Maybe they've run out of virtual crayons. (lol maybe they have!-Angie)
by bo edited by Angie 6/17/2011 7:26:41 AM

  • @Angie and I imagine you have the same problem as me, when America goes to sleep and Europe is not yet up, the list falls asleep. So I never know if it is really sleeping or my page just isn't loading! Funny how the key time to be awake in Japan is when the list is idle!
    by bo 6/17/2011 7:41:30 AM

  • @bo I fully agree!!! lol The whole time zone thing gets confusing at times!

  • Leak source identified at Fukushima Daiichi pant

Tokyo Electric Power Company says that a damaged valve caused a water leak in a system to decontaminate the highly radioactive water accumulating in the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. The utility is making efforts to restore the newly installed water treatment system.

Tokyo Electric Power Company has compiled a document on what happened at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant during the first 5 days after the March 11th earthquake and tsunami triggered the nuclear accident.

The approximately 50-page document chronicles in detail the events that took place at the plant, centering on reactors 1, 2 and 3, as well as TEPCO's responses

  • @elainekirk - "2 IAEA Fukushima docs have been de-restricted "
I hate when that happens. ;^)
by Rob Thomas 6/17/2011 9:58:15 AM

  • @rob I will be honest I havent read them , too early in the day for me to cope with propaganda dressed up as some kind of honest apraisal
    by elainekirk 6/17/2011 9:59:54 AM

  • @elainekirk - "Technical cooperation project in support of a marine benchmark study on the possible impact of the Fukushima radioactive releases in the Asia-Pacific Region"
This sounds like it could be the Woods Hole research perhaps...
    www.iaea.org
by Rob Thomas 6/17/2011 10:01:42 AM

  • @elainekirk - I take that back...

"It is recommended that the Board:
    • Approve this proposed project as a new project in the Agency’s technical cooperation
    programme for 2011;
    • Approve the use of footnote-a/ funding for this project for a total amount of €1 053 000, which
    will be implemented as resources become available;
    • Approve the possible participation of concerned non-Member States of the IAEA in the region.
by Rob Thomas 6/17/2011 10:07:10 AM

  • @rob so they are going to help with funding?
    by elainekirk 6/17/2011 10:13:12 AM

  • @rob is a downside of this moving out of the charity sphere the fact that the IAEA will effectively be purchasing rights to control of information released to the public (their funding source) in relation to the polution of OUR oceans?

  • Chilling...

    14. At 07:21 UTC on 11 March 2011, the IEC established initial communication with the official
contact point designated by Japan under the Early Notification Convention and the Assistance
Convention, namely the: Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry/Nuclear and Industrial Safety
Agency (METI–NISA). The IEC verified information on the occurrence of the earthquake and the
tsunami and commenced enquiries as to the safety of nuclear installations and Category I, II and III
radioactive sources in the affected areas of Japan.

    15. The IEC was promptly activated, starting operation in Full Response Mode. Regular IEC staff
and other Agency staff members who have been trained in the IES were called into the IEC to fulfil
functions in the organizational response structure (under REPLIE 2009) in accordance with their
    allocated responsibilities and training.

    19. At 08:56 UTC on 11 March 2011, the Agency received the first request for information about
the ‘state of the safety of the power reactors in Japan’ from a Member State. Since that time, the
Agency has responded to requests for information from official contact points in Member States and State Parties to the Early Notification Convention and the Assistance Convention. Requests received from organizations that are not officially nominated contact points and from members of the public (through the IAEA public web site) were also followed up by the relevant Agency technical division or the Division of Public Information.

    37. A delegation of major shipping lines met with the Agency and IMO on 4 May 2011 to discuss
means of addressing the monitoring of containers at ports. Support has been provided to the shipping companies through the Agency’s Denial of Shipment Network, and an extensive joint guidance document is being prepared by the task group.
