@Pedro Jesus , look here is an example for a Nukem patent: patft.uspto.gov . This one is already granted. Perhaps, I am wrong about pending applications. But, if you search this db for Kurion, you will find nothing.

@Pedro Jesus , I know this is tedious stuff. I am checking out reactor valve systems. I have studied more valve designs now than I ever imagined exist, and it is so easy to get lost in details only to find out after hours that they do not answer the original question. It is like searching for needles in a haystack.

@nancy, what drives me nuts is the idea that I just needed to be on location point at the pipe and ask the next tepco guy who comes along what it is for. Unfortunately, it is not that simple.

@radioguy ah, you mean the rad sensor. idk what happened. i made an educated guess on the nitrogen injection causing the failure. maybe nitrogen destroyed it. but not really believe it.

@Veenie , I figured it this way. A metric ton of water fills a bath tub. So they must clean water worth one thousand bathtubs a day. This seems an okay load for a small-town sewage treatment plant. But small-town sewage is not that radioactive.

@Edano Kurion absorption towers details api.viglink.com and api.viglink.com Yesterday they started only two. And both of them are having the unexpected high radiation trouble. 4.7 mSv/h was measured on line No. 1 and 3.9 mSV/h on line No. 3. (No.2 and No.4 were unused).

The absorption towers displaying these radiation levels are the oil and technetium removing towers, at the entrance of the system. Three possibilities were mentioned during the NISA's press conference on June 18th ( www.ustream.tv ) :

* To do without the oil and technetium absorption tower (starting directly with the cesium removal towers) ;
* Use of silica sand to filter oil
* Changing the location of the radiation sensor

The first two will be tested on June 18th and 19th, using different solutions on each line and making comparisons. From Physics forum www.physicsforums.com
