  • @Edano cool on the Japanese lessons. I have seen links to lessons or language information on other sites but have not taken the time to check them out. I have a link somewhere to a decent source for understanding text and the word characters. We should compile all those sources into a web page of resources.

  • @Pedro Jesus , look here is an example for a Nukem patent: patft.uspto.gov . This one is already granted. Perhaps, I am wrong about pending applications. But, if you search this db for Kurion, you will find nothing.

  • @Pedro Jesus , I know this is tedious stuff. I am checking out reactor valve systems. I have studied more valve designs now than I ever imagined exist, and it is so easy to get lost in details only to find out after hours that they do not answer the original question. It is like searching for needles in a haystack.

  • @Peter Melzer I'm having the same issue with the MOX research. I had to make myself an outline of what data we need so I can keep on track, it starts going in many directions. Sometimes that results in something useful, other times just lost time off somewhere else that doesn't relate enough to matter. I do have a much wider understanding of the whole issue worldwide now and some of the actions make more sense knowing the wider context.

  • @all - Did anyone already find Raymont's patent application for treating radioactive waste water? - Sorry if this has already been found. appft.uspto.gov
    by Diane_NJ 6/18/2011 5:18:21 PM

  • @nancy, what drives me nuts is the idea that I just needed to be on location point at the pipe and ask the next tepco guy who comes along what it is for. Unfortunately, it is not that simple.
by Peter Melzer 6/18/2011 5:19:17 PM

  • @lillymunster , that is a good attitude. Sometimes, I think I may qualify as a power plant inspector one day, :)

  • @radioguy ah, you mean the rad sensor. idk what happened. i made an educated guess on the nitrogen injection causing the failure. maybe nitrogen destroyed it. but not really believe it.
    by Edano 6/18/2011 5:24:21 PM

  • @Edano , this is a bit like researching valve designs. One would need to know exactly where this detector is placed, how it is installed, and what kind it is.
by Peter Melzer 6/18/2011 5:27:53 PM

  • @Peter Melzer @Diane_NJ : it is a good idea to search the patents for the kurion heads' names rather than for "kurion".

  • @Edano , only the Nukem patent comes up in the search for Raymount, Jr. inventor.

  • @Edano , we need to clarify the name of this guy. On the patent the inventors name is listed as: Raymount, Jr., John M.
by Peter Melzer 6/18/2011 5:38:26 PM

  • no. Raymont, Jr John M, Innovator,Costa Mesa, CA www.patentbuddy.com
    by Edano 6/18/2011 5:40:50 PM

  • @Veenie , I figured it this way. A metric ton of water fills a bath tub. So they must clean water worth one thousand bathtubs a day. This seems an okay load for a small-town sewage treatment plant. But small-town sewage is not that radioactive.
by Peter Melzer 6/18/2011 5:41:17 PM

  • @Peter Melzer At current, they have what 110.000 tons in storage at 2300 t clean up per day, that's almost 100 days just to clean current not counting additional........what a task and only cm from topping......i am afraid, ocean is going to happen.

  • Boy, if my name was misspelled on my patent, I'd be really pissed. What did they pay a law firm for? Still, under either spelling there is only the one with rwe nukem that seems important for the Fukushima clean-up.

  • @Edano Kurion absorption towers details api.viglink.com and api.viglink.com Yesterday they started only two. And both of them are having the unexpected high radiation trouble. 4.7 mSv/h was measured on line No. 1 and 3.9 mSV/h on line No. 3. (No.2 and No.4 were unused).

The absorption towers displaying these radiation levels are the oil and technetium removing towers, at the entrance of the system. Three possibilities were mentioned during the NISA's press conference on June 18th ( www.ustream.tv ) :

    * To do without the oil and technetium absorption tower (starting directly with the cesium removal towers) ;
    * Use of silica sand to filter oil
    * Changing the location of the radiation sensor

The first two will be tested on June 18th and 19th, using different solutions on each line and making comparisons. From Physics forum www.physicsforums.com

  • From the atomic annie article: arkozy also took a hit at Areva's relations with EDF, saddled with operating all of France's ageing nuclear power plants, by thundering that electricity should be produced by cost-conscious and profitable corporations. Sarkozy cited Tepco of Japan - operator of the Fukushima plant - as a nice model for Areva and EDF to copy and to work with in the USA or anywhere else, for example on a failed set-up in Florida and never concretized Middle Eastern projects.

I bet he wished he had never said that now.
    by lillymunster 6/18/2011 9:01:09 PM

  • @nancy he had probably enjoyed tepco hospitality at some time
    by elainekirk 6/18/2011 9:13:09 PM

  • @elainekirk What a disgusting mess. The levels that Areva were messed up in some ugly dealings in Africa and with Qdaffi are pretty disgusting.
    by lillymunster 6/18/2011 9:18:23 PM

  • @lilly I think this is begining to see the unravelling of the close knitted nuclear club
    by elainekirk 6/18/2011 9:25:41 PM

  • @elainekirk and starting to see how questionable some of their dealings are. Now not just the danger of power plants going south and the waste they generate but that they seem to be encouraging despotic governments when convenient. Reminds me of the diamond industry somewhat
