@diane if you bookmark this site you can usually double check stories that appear against what the science blogs are saying

@Diane_NJ not trying to be abrasive but that site isn't a real news site. Someone mentioned it to me last night and did some investigating. It is run by a guy who is a conspiracy theory blogger and tries to present it as a legit news site. It is in the same vein as Tom Burnett's HawaiiNewsDaily site. They make them look like legit news, they are really blogs of a couple of guys.
by lillymunster 6/18/2011 10:22:38 PM

@diane oops I couldnt find anything either good job we have @lilly here
by elainekirk 6/18/2011 10:23:45 PM

It is really hard to tell some of these at first glance but if you go digging into who runs them and google who they run with and their opinions they all have a common thread. They are all very anti-semetic, anti US govt. and buy into a list of conspiracy theories about anything and everything.
@Diane, don't feel bad, I went digging into the background on that one for about an hour last night after someone else emailed me and we thought something didn't look right. At first glance it looks like a small town newspaper...
by lillymunster 6/18/2011 10:25:58 PM

Sadly these groups have nothing better to do all day but bombard the internet and make it hard for everyone else to sort out what is real news and what is fabricated twists on events. It is a royal pain for everyone trying to find the facts and news.
by lillymunster 6/18/2011 10:27:36 PM

A guy named Tim King runs the salem news site. He owned another domain that has been blacklisted for spamming and shut down. He has some sketchy ties into anti-US govt. groups, various conspiracy theories and some racist and anti-semetic groups. This seems to be where he is coming from with what he writes. The other guy doing the same thing is Tom Burnett. Burnett has pretty much admitted his two previous articles were over stated and untrue after enough people cornered him on the facts or lack of them. It is just insane that people have to sort through all this and try to figure out what is news and what isn't. It is really hard. Anymore if I don't recognize the source as a known media outlet I start googling the author or site owner to see what else they are associated with or post online.

One question -if they knew a replacement would be needed at 4 why was there not one ready?
make that 2 questions- if it just needs a replacement why dont they know when it will restart ?
"Tokyo Electric Power Co. halted a water decontamination system today after five hours because a cesium-absorption unit supplied by Kurion Inc. needed replacement sooner than expected.
Tokyo Electric is investigating the cause and doesn’t know when it will be able to restart the system,"
"The system was halted at 12:54 a.m. after the level of cesium in the absorption unit reached 4.7 millisieverts of radiation, Matsumoto said. Such units generally need replacement at a level of 4 millisieverts,"

by dean 6/18/2011 10:46:56 PM

@elainekirk it was supposed to last weeks not hours.
Hi Dean!
by lillymunster 6/18/2011 10:48:09 PM

If this helps this is how I back track a website if I see a story that looks questionable:
Look for the author's name, site owner's name or company that owns the site.
If none on the site, do a "whois" search on the domain to find out who owns the web address.
Once you have a name or names google the names. See what other associations they might have. What other things they write about, do business in etc.
This will give an idea where that person is coming from and if you think they could be a reliable source.
by lillymunster 6/18/2011 10:49:18 PM

@nancy but surely areva/kurion didnt just have 1 made if a factory sets up to produce something then usually there would be a ew if replacement was anticipated?
by elainekirk 6/18/2011 10:49:47 PM

@dean hi
by elainekirk 6/18/2011 10:50:05 PM

by lillymunster 6/18/2011 10:50:50 PM
