  • @dean Morning to you!
    by Angie 6/26/2011 12:46:36 PM

  • sure good seeing Angie and lilly..
    by dean 6/26/2011 12:50:53 PM

  • @Dean, I saw a blogger post that injecting nitrogen into #2 was "extremely dangerous". What I have read and gleaned from here is that injecting nitrogen prevents the build up of hydrogen. Is there anything dangerous about the process of injecting it?
    by lillymunster 6/26/2011 12:54:17 PM

  • @dean I have just about finished my assignement so I thought I would fill in for Elaine while she went and had some fun! lol
    by Angie 6/26/2011 12:54:50 PM

  • oooo goodie for Elaine ,,, you all do such an excellent job.. time off is needed... I was wondering, how is your equipment holding up.. computers, hard drives etc?
    by dean 6/26/2011 12:55:49 PM

  • about the same as when I was on here heaps...........but I have had a lot of research to do, so lots of different sites.
    by Angie 6/26/2011 12:57:10 PM

  • going on vacation next friday .... i need someone running my plotter for two weeks ....
    by Edano 6/26/2011 12:57:27 PM

  • @lilly, before I would inject I would have my radiochemists give me possible chemical reaction or material degradation that "may" result and weigh that against the benefits.
    by dean 6/26/2011 12:57:46 PM

  • hi Edano. .good to see you
    by dean 6/26/2011 12:57:54 PM

  • @angie, lilly.. do you all have two monitors set up, ample storage space etc? I was wondering because you put so much research into things and must have a maze of files and directories...
    by dean 6/26/2011 12:59:00 PM

  • requirement: screen resolution > 1300
    by Edano 6/26/2011 12:59:20 PM

  • @dean I have to run some tests on my HD. I think I damaged it when I dropped my laptop. Not a big deal to replace it. I bought one of those USB hard drives and copied all my files including my FUKU files on it. Not a bad idea for anyone who is keeping lots of that kind of data on their computer, to keep a thumb drive or usb hard drive.
    by lillymunster 6/26/2011 12:59:37 PM

  • @Edano yep dont look my way...............I shall break it!! @Dean......nope not me just normal laptop........my research has been for my teaching degree.......not for here as I would like
    by Angie 6/26/2011 1:00:11 PM

  • @Angie : it is fully automatical. nothing to do in fact.
    by Edano 6/26/2011 1:00:58 PM

  • @Dean I was complaining about storage capacity last night. I have all this data and Most is organized in sub folders within my one FUKU folder. It still is really hard sometimes to remember where I put something.

I have been running with just my laptop but finally bought another PC from my office. Need to set that up. It helps me having two machines or two screens when I can. Two machines allows me to have work going on one and do email and web based on the other without my laptop getting bogged down. I have a few programs that are resource hogs.
    by lillymunster 6/26/2011 1:02:01 PM

  • @Edano, exactly what does it need?
    by lillymunster 6/26/2011 1:02:17 PM

  • @lilly.. I have been thinking about that and wondered if there were some financial contribution that could be made to make improvements to you research people
    by dean 6/26/2011 1:02:51 PM

  • @lillymunster Make sure there is nothing else wrong with the laptop before you spend money on a hard drive. It might be more cost efficient to buy a new one. Although hard drives are usually the most sensitive to impact there are other components that could have been damaged. Give it another couple of months to make sure everything else works properly.
by Pedro Jesus 6/26/2011 1:03:04 PM

  • @lillymunster only a screen resolution of more than 1300 pixel in width.
    by Edano 6/26/2011 1:03:16 PM

  • @lillymunster I meant, might be more cost efficient to buy a new laptop.
by Pedro Jesus 6/26/2011 1:03:44 PM

  • @Pedro Jesus there is a hard drive test you can run on them that looks for damage or bad sectors etc. I need to do a format reload anyway on the laptop so may do both. I can swap the hard drive myself if needed and a new one is only about $50. The laptop is fairly new, bought it last year.
    by lillymunster 6/26/2011 1:04:33 PM

  • @Edano Do you just want someone making sure the feed is continuing to update properly?
    by lillymunster 6/26/2011 1:04:57 PM

  • @Edano mine is 1366x768 if that helps.......
    by Angie 6/26/2011 1:05:28 PM

  • Edano, I would help but my schedule is so helter skelter lately and have had to increase travels for work
    by dean 6/26/2011 1:05:54 PM

  • @lillymunster Yes, you just run the full disk scan. But, what I mean is, give it some time to see if everything else is still working properly. Laptops do not react well to shocks. It wouldn't be nice to spend $50 in a hard-drive and then the laptop going dead after a while.
by Pedro Jesus 6/26/2011 1:06:51 PM

  • @Dean, at least on my end I have plenty of resources I can use if needed. The hubby works in IT. We have spare servers etc. at the house if I needed them. Luckily most of the data I am saving is fairly small file sizes.

I was thinking some sort of organized central library for keeping copies (not originals) of all this documentation we have been saving might not be a bad idea. If it was searchable and categorized. The hubby suggested a few options they use at the hospital for sharing informational materials so I am going to do some investigating. Either for my personal organizing or a central lib
    rary for all our "stuff"
    by lillymunster 6/26/2011 1:07:41 PM

  • @Pedro Jesus True. I was having some OS glitches before I dropped it also. It only dropped a few inches to the table so don't know if it damaged the HD. I ran check disk on it yesterday and it found a bunch of corrupted files.
    by lillymunster 6/26/2011 1:09:00 PM

  • Someone from one of the French Fukushima facebook groups sent me this link, it is a global petition/declaration on Fukushima. Can people let me know if this looks appropriate to add a link & story on our website? www.appealforfukushima.com
    by lillymunster 6/26/2011 1:11:32 PM

  • @lilly, sounds good on the central searchable categorized approach.. let me know if I can help with some kind of donation
    by dean 6/26/2011 1:14:51 PM

  • @dean will do, I think I may be able to run something on my existing web space. I really want some sort of ability to search and find without having to hand categorize and make menus manually. Will let everyone know what I find out.
    by lillymunster 6/26/2011 1:18:18 PM

  • @lillymunster If it doesn't have any bad sectors it might be fine. Like I said, the hard drive and then the screen are the most sensitive vital parts of a laptop. However, most modern laptops have a safety system that retracts the hard drive head whenever a sensor detects movement. This simple feature can save a hard drive from a nasty bang but then other components might be damaged and you might not find out until later. Give it at least a few weeks to see out it goes. And Lilly, don't drop it again. :p
by Pedro Jesus 6/26/2011 1:22:34 PM

  • @Pedro Jesus LOL. I try not to drop it. The dog caught his food bowl on the tags of his collar and bolted through the house at full speed food flying. I dropped it trying to put the laptop down in a hurry to stop the dog. 100 pounds of freaked out food flying mess. :-)

  • @Pedro and lilly.. I had a toshiba lap top and was traveling dropped it on the escalator at the airport and it went bouncing down the stairs. I thought well it's toast.. but much to my amazement when I retrieved it and sat down and started it up .. wa la.. it was working ok.. then, later I was working with it and had a cup of coffee next to it. .and spilled the coffee right over the power connection.. well the screen went blank and I immediately turned the lap top upside down and shook the dayllights out of it.. then opened the case and blew it out... after it rested for a day I started it.. the screen was 1/2 gone,, ,so I was hmmm... then I went back to best buy where I had purchased it to show it to the geek squad and I opened it up and they started it.. .the dang thing went right on , loaded up and was working fine.. they looked at me like I was nuts..
    by dean 6/26/2011 1:44:13 PM

  • @dean I have seen a few where people would spill a drink on them and with enough drying will work. Soda is usually a death sentence because the sugar stays behind. Sounds like you were really lucky if half the screen wasn't working at first. :-)
