  • in the shower i had a good idea about nukes in the second/third world: it is a way to gain control over the foreign government, because it is dependent of the fuel rod supply for several decades. interesting point, kind of modern colonialisation.

  • Ibaraki residents start monitoring radiation

Residents of a city northeast of Tokyo have started monitoring radiation levels in an effort to protect children from radiation exposure.

The group in Moriya, Ibaraki Prefecture, began the monitoring in a park on Monday. Measurements were taken one meter above the ground.

Moriya is about 200 kilometers from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, but the city has recorded the highest level of radiation among the municipalities in Ibaraki Prefecture.

The group says it will take measurements at 60 locations and put up warning signs where high levels of radioactive substances are detected.

Group member Mitsunobu Oishi says the authorities cannot conduct detailed checks in many places, so the group is taking action to ensure the safety of children.

Mamma's are starting to assert themselves. I know I would if I was raising a child there. I still think the mom's will be the key to getting the true news out. They want to protect their kids.

  • @Lurking good that the media are starting to publish this
    by elainekirk 7/5/2011 12:55:59 AM

  • @Elaine, my thought too. I can't imagine being a parent over there. I'm glad they are doing their own testing, rather than waiting for the government to tell them what is or is not safe.
    by Lurking 7/5/2011 1:02:58 AM

  • @elainekirk : you wanted to tell me what matsumoto said, that seems so offensive that he has to retire.
    by Edano 7/5/2011 1:05:27 AM

  • @Edano, a ways back, thanks for the venting times, I didn't know that was on record. The likely wisp of gas seen during the Unit-3 blast at least shows that no valves or such were switched at that time that would block stack egress and force Unit-4 injection.
    by Ian 7/5/2011 1:06:06 AM

  • Morning all. @dean, I find the Japan Focus translation of the citizen produced pamphlet very readable for laymen. I have had to, as probably most of us have, explain radiation to a number of people in the last 4 months, and this booklet would be a good aid and resource for that task.

  • Matsumoto's Excuse: "I Am from Kyushu and I have Type-B Blood"

Being criticized for his manner when he visited Tohoku, Ryu Matsumoto, Minister in charge of recovery and reconstruction for the Kan Administration, apologized to Tohoku people if "his words had hurt the feelings of people in the disaster area in Tohoku", and defended himself by saying:

"I'm from Kyushu. People from Kyushu talk tough."

"I have the Type-B blood, so I may be short-tempered."

And it looks some people in Kyusu and from Kyushu and some people in Japan with the Type-B blood are highly offended by the association. Japanese are 39% Type-A, 29% Type-O, 22% Type-B, and 10% Type-AB. ex-skf.blogspot.com
