  • @all G'morning
@lillymunster Sorry I'm out for the best part of the day but I just read of your concerns re potential US pressure on Japan to retain a nuke industry. I'm sure this is true and, whilst I've no real info on the current pressures he's under, I thought this paragraph in Kan's recent blog entry was telling, with the sentiment likely directed in part towards any US bullies:
"The year before last, in his speech delivered in Prague, President Obama spoke of his idea to “seek… a world without nuclear weapons” and showed the ‘direction towards which the world should work in the future’. In the same way, my having declared that we will ‘aim to realize a society in the future where we can do without nuclear power stations’ was a statement of the Prime Minister’s thinking regarding the ‘direction towards which Japan should work in the future.’" kansblog.kantei.go.jp

  • Do you know about this new ALL NUCLEAR NEWS website. It's really all-inclusive. If it loads a little slow, be patient. They're still working out the kinks. realitycheck.no-ip.info

  • #Radiation in Japan: 100 Millisieverts in Lifetime to Be Set as New Radiation Standard in Japan "The government-funded researchers and scholars are already busy imprinting this number "100 millisieverts" in the minds of the populace. The reference to X-rays and CT-scans are back. No need to worry up till 100 millisieverts!" ex-skf.blogspot.com

  • @Ralph Unger what plans have they put in place to protect people when they reach 100? i
    by elainekirk 7/22/2011 8:16:39 AM

  • Obviously they expect most people to get about 90 mSv. :-) Make the rules to fit the reality. With 3 3 mSv in the urine, 100 will not take long to be surpassed and internal radiation is much more dangerous then external radiation. search.japantimes.co.jp

  • ""This won't be a problem if they don't eat vegetables or other products that are contaminated," said Nanao Kamada, professor emeritus of radiation biology at Hiroshima University. "But it will be difficult for people to continue living in these areas.""

  • @Ralph Unger I am gobsmacked again who was it spoke of 'Mans inhumanity to man'?
    by elainekirk 7/22/2011 8:25:47 AM

  • It is from a Robert Burns poem called "Man was made to mourn".
by Ralph Unger 7/22/2011 8:26:56 AM

  • @Ralph Unger
they could move everyone to safer areas tomoro (which they won't) and they will still be crippled with the health care cost over the next umpteen decades , I can see the day when prospective parents and embryo's are tested thoroughly and parents forced to abort babies who may be 'imperfect' and that day shouldnt be even thought abought in nightmares
    by elainekirk 7/22/2011 8:30:23 AM

  • they landed this news black out on the world and whooopsy what an own goal now everybody is looking closely at the humanitarian aspects
    by elainekirk 7/22/2011 8:32:00 AM

  • The good thing is that they will get real data about the dangers of radiation. Future generations will know exactly what the dangers are. If you look up Chernobyl, the numbers go from the hundreds to the hundred thousands.
by Ralph Unger 7/22/2011 8:32:54 AM

  • What I think is that if Fukushima increased my chances of cancer by even .0000001%, what right have they to do that?
by Ralph Unger 7/22/2011 8:34:12 AM

  • I do not believe that shared liability without shared profits should be a viable option in any society.

  • Price–Anderson Nuclear Industries Indemnity Act is against the good of the population. In a free market, without gov. support nuclear power would not exist until it was truly safe. en.wikipedia.org

  • @Ralph Unger I onder what is coming next the WHOI ship that set off in a fanfare of information testing international waters and mapping dispersal has been silent since the US government invested in their 'charity'
    by elainekirk 7/22/2011 8:47:13 AM

  • I wonder what will happen when the contaminated water reaches the US in one or two years, that is where most of the radiation went and as I pointed out in earlier post the dispersal is limited. blog.geogarage.com
by Ralph Unger 7/22/2011 8:51:45 AM

  • As to dispersal I like the info from the volcano in Chile. It show a sudden dispersal and then limited dispersal. eoimages.gsfc.nasa.gov

  • Here we are WHOI press on the 19th of July www.thebulletin.org we are going to feed you we are just digging around for something sanitised and it won't really inform you of our findings we will just take whatever we can get
    by elainekirk 7/22/2011 8:54:17 AM

  • At ten miles from the discharge of the radioactive water the concentrations may be only 1% of what they were at the source. That does not mean that the concentrations will be .001% at 1000 miles from the dischage location though.
