That video of the folks at the meeting with the govt. officials is very telling. That is some of the most unJapanese behavior I have seen in a video yet. It is an indicator of how much things are turning up in the contaminated areas

@Peter Melzer : the US (and GB) controlled the south east asian oil routes.

Another reason that Japan supported the two Bush wars was domestic as well. Since Japan is constitutionally restrained from sending troops abroad, this was the first time that Japanese military personnel were sent to a war zone, albeit to perform "peacekeeper" duties. Getting the Japanese public over the shock of a foreign deployment was a key goal.
by bo 7/26/2011 12:23:29 AM

in fact, pearl harbor temporarily led to a complete dominance by japan over the northeast pacific and the important south east asian territories.
by Edano 7/26/2011 12:27:12 AM

just my t'pence worth but I think what we are seeing with the silence in UK/Europe/US/Japan is an desperate attempt to keep the Japanese economy afloat because if it drops then the oil/coal/gas rich countries become even stronger
by elainekirk 7/26/2011 12:29:12 AM

near the end of WW2, the US was practically bancrupt, no fuel, no money for new ships. so truman decided to drop the bombs to end the war.

New decontamination unit to arrive at FukushimaA new system to decontaminate radioactive water will arrive at the troubled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant on Tuesday. The current system, the key to cooling the reactors, has been plagued with problems.
The new equipment, SARRY, consists of 14 cylindrical tanks containing minerals. It is designed to reduce radioactive substances in water, such as cesium, to less than one millionth.
The first shipment of tanks and parts left a port in Iwaki, Fukushima on Monday.
The existing devise at the plant was hit with problems from Sunday to Monday. It's operating rate has been reduced to 53 percent, far below the goal of 90 percent.
The plant's operator Tokyo Electric Power Company plans to use the new system, along with the existing one.
The utility will bring the remaining components to the Fukushima plant in 2 more shipments. It then aims to begin operating the new system around early August.

IAEA chief visits Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plantThe head of the International Atomic Energy Agency is visiting the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant to see how the reactors are being cooled down.
This is his first visit to the plant since the March 11th nuclear disaster.
IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano arrived in Japan on Sunday and traveled to Fukushima by train on Monday morning.
Amano told reporters that he wants to identify how the IAEA can cooperate with Japan to contain the situation.
He also said he wants to listen to the personnel who are working in severe conditions, to find out what they think and feel about the difficult tasks they are carrying out every day.
Amano wore protective gear to inspect the damage at the plant and to check the progress of the "road map" drawn up by the Tokyo Electric Power Company.

@Edano reporters were not allowed to travel with him and he went round the site on a bus and viewed through the f'in window if they gonna report then at least they should tell it as it is
by elainekirk 7/26/2011 12:43:13 AM

@Peter Melzer : it's a fact. the US bonds were down at the end of war and the bomb was planned for germany and ready to use. it was built because hitler was suspected to work on it as well (which was not the case). since hitler commited suicide, they did not need it anymore in germany.
by Edano 7/26/2011 12:44:29 AM

@knaut very interesting
by Edano 7/26/2011 12:51:06 AM

@Edano I found some of the comments interesting. It was clear the person really didn't understand what was going on and was quick to dismiss the entire thing as not being serious.

Could a gamma detector in a helicopter actually tell the true picture of the soil? Japan to radiation test large parts of Japan.

@Peter Melzer I can't remember is Cesium a gamma emitter?
by lillymunster 7/26/2011 2:03:53 AM

@Peter Melzer so then the helicopter detection might actually be useful

by lillymunster 7/26/2011 2:19:45 AM

checking out the video... anything I can help with tonight lilly?
by dean 7/26/2011 2:22:01 AM

@dean let me go through my piles of notes and links. :-)
by lillymunster 7/26/2011 2:23:41 AM

one thing visible on that video right off ... you don't do a hand held counter body survey waving it like a wand.. they are doing that survey much to quickly for an accurate survey..
by dean 7/26/2011 2:23:45 AM

procedures for doing that are to hold it 1-2 inches off the surface and slowly go over all the areas
by dean 7/26/2011 2:24:32 AM

Common pool still steaming on TEPCO cam. During the day is odd. Do we get common pool temps in the plant reports? It has been steaming since the power outage on Friday.
