Contains links to satelite products and other more advanced Typhoon tracking analysis products. Generally speaking places like Crown weather services, Wunderground weather, JTWC and AMeDAS realtime monitoring maps will do for the weather illiterate. All those links are included! Enjoy!:-)

  • Quote of the day from one of those citing the book:'The Atlantic points out:

The reason for official reluctance to admit that the earthquake did direct structural damage to reactor one is obvious. Katsunobu Onda, author of TEPCO: The Dark Empire … who sounded the alarm about the firm in his 2007 book explains it this way: “If TEPCO and the government of Japan admit an earthquake can do direct damage to the reactor, this raises suspicions about the safety of every reactor they run. They are using a number of antiquated reactors that have the same systematic problems, the same wear and tear on the piping.”"

  • Power industry unions donate over 100 mil. yen to DPJ

    TOKYO, Aug. 1, Kyodo

The ruling Democratic Party of Japan received over 100 million yen in donations in the three years through 2009 from political groups formed by workers' unions of electric power companies, a Kyodo News survey showed Sunday.

With power company executives already known to have provided large contributions to the main opposition Liberal Democratic Party, the union funding shows that both the labor and management sides of the industry have sought to maintain their clout with the country's two top political parties.

The power industry's labor groups provided at least 111 million yen to the DPJ headquarters as well as 33 parliamentarians including Katsuya Okada, former party president and current secretary general, and former science minister Tatsuo Kawabata between 2007 and 2009, according to publicly available political fund reports.

  • why do workers' unions donate to the government ??? sounds funny.
    by Edano 8/1/2011 12:41:52 AM

  • Hi Bo!

@Edano, in the US unions are a big political donor but they operate far from whatever industry & corporations are doing.
    by lillymunster 8/1/2011 12:47:01 AM

  • @lillymunster : but it's the workers' money that they give away...
    by Edano 8/1/2011 12:49:21 AM

  • @Edano US unions donate based on general agreement of all workers in that union so it is mostly an agreed thing and independent of any corporations they work for. They donate to candidate campaigns, the money doesn't go to the govt. itself. What sounds odd is that both the unions and the corporations are doing this somewhat in unison. Makes me wonder if their unions are corrupted.
    by lillymunster 8/1/2011 12:56:54 AM

  • @All now updated with much more----> fukushimafaq.wikispaces.com ...sorry should have pulled my finger out and done that ages ago!:-) @Edano the siting party here is the "Union" party, known as Labor, the union heads can kill a leader if they wish, see this en.wikipedia.org and read "Resignation as Prime Minister" the union factions caused that because he no longer listened to them, and the unions give away stacks to the party, so does corps and big tobacco, @Lilly....corrupt? You seriously wondering???
    by Thunder 8/1/2011 12:59:17 AM

  • @Thunder OK, let me rephrase that. More corrupt than usual. :-)
    by lillymunster 8/1/2011 1:05:28 AM

  • @bo good morning !!
    by elainekirk 8/1/2011 1:06:58 AM

  • @Lilly LOL! I can say comining from a union run industry.....what's usual???:-) In the end it's all just human nature, where there is money and power there will be corruption and greed! @Bo morning!
