  • @Peter Melzer Hi!
    by ikrockhopper 8/13/2011 1:34:46 AM

  • @elainekirk I know :)
    by ikrockhopper 8/13/2011 1:34:58 AM

  • @ikrockhopper any news bout the ruins ?
    by Edano 8/13/2011 1:36:50 AM

  • Well, so, food. The problem is that the current cutoff is too high. And many people cant accept it. Yet, many companies including co-op companies follow the cutoff. Local agriculture industry, too. So, many people cannot buy any fresh food from the east part of Japan.
    by ikrockhopper 8/13/2011 1:37:11 AM

  • @Edano @Peter Melzer rockhoopper wants ideas how to make people see they have to fight without panicking them into giving up if you get my drift enough info for them to react positively
    by elainekirk 8/13/2011 1:38:22 AM

  • @Edano Not much news about the reactors. They didnt collapse with the quake. That was good.
    by ikrockhopper 8/13/2011 1:38:35 AM

  • well the people have to set up and independent food testing network. this is important. in germany, after chernobyl, we called it "strahlentelex".
    by Edano 8/13/2011 1:40:08 AM

  • @elainekirk Thank you! Yes. A majority is in denial, but things are getting worse in life environment, like food and possible problems in newborns. We need to increase the awareness without panicking.
    by ikrockhopper 8/13/2011 1:40:42 AM

  • Wow that just confused me all over the place! Hi rockhopper! :-)
    by lillymunster 8/13/2011 1:40:43 AM

  • @Edano Yes, it's going on :)
    by ikrockhopper 8/13/2011 1:41:01 AM

  • @ikrockhopper-san , I hope people know where the food is coming from and make choices.
by Peter Melzer 8/13/2011 1:41:32 AM

  • @lillymunster Hi, wow, Skeleton-Kitty-the-cat!
    by ikrockhopper 8/13/2011 1:42:01 AM

  • @ikrockhopper very good. people have to get active, not passivly accept everything. if you get active, you lose the victim role.
    by Edano 8/13/2011 1:42:28 AM

  • @Peter Melzer Used to be, any vegetables/fish had prefecture's name. Not these days. Retailers want to sell stuff without letting people noticed.
    by ikrockhopper 8/13/2011 1:43:13 AM

  • @ikrockhopper dual identities freyafoust = lillymunster :-)
    by lillymunster 8/13/2011 1:43:32 AM

  • @lillymunster Lilly
    by Veenie 8/13/2011 1:44:02 AM

  • @lillymunster You! I love the kitty-the-cat!!!
    by ikrockhopper 8/13/2011 1:44:06 AM

  • @ikrockhopper , how about buying from local farmers in safe areas?
by Peter Melzer 8/13/2011 1:44:28 AM

  • @Edano There is one Whole Body Counter run by citizens in FKSM, and probably will be more, too.
    by ikrockhopper 8/13/2011 1:44:57 AM

  • @ikrockhopper they should oppose to the plans that tepco makes the measurings in the evac zones so the people will move back when there is no harm anymore to human health. it cannot be. they have an agenda.
    by Edano 8/13/2011 1:45:32 AM

  • @Peter Melzer Some do... But, pretty expensive. Organic food is expensive, anyway.
    by ikrockhopper 8/13/2011 1:45:40 AM

  • @ikrockhopper what about imports or non organic or does non-organic = factory food?
    by lillymunster 8/13/2011 1:46:17 AM

  • @Peter Melzer @ikrockhopper safe areas will be rare there are enough people in safe areas to consume produce from there contaminated areas will only have local food option this is bad www.asahi.com translate.google.com
    by elainekirk 8/13/2011 1:46:38 AM

  • @Edano Yes, it's not just TEPCO/gov. also Fukushima prefecture. They all want residents to move back, so that they can get tax money, basically. Plus, one important thing, the area of Fukushima is very traditional/conservative farm/ranch area. people want to go back, anyway.
    by ikrockhopper 8/13/2011 1:48:04 AM

  • @elainekirk other agriculture areas can produce quite a bit more than they consume depending on the crop.
    by lillymunster 8/13/2011 1:48:09 AM

  • @ikrockhopper they need to talk to people in Russia and Belarus.
    by lillymunster 8/13/2011 1:48:39 AM

  • @lillymunster As far as they can afford, they buy imported food, yes, as long as I read info on twitter
    by ikrockhopper 8/13/2011 1:48:55 AM

  • @elainekirk You are right. Plus, now things are getting worse, because all prefectures let all the debris or incinerated ash for landfill from Fukushima and afflicted area.
    by ikrockhopper 8/13/2011 1:50:12 AM

  • So, basically, contamination will spread everywhere. This actually works to raise the awareness in areas outside the east side.
    by ikrockhopper 8/13/2011 1:50:57 AM

  • i suspect they plan to spread the radioactivity around the country.
    by Edano 8/13/2011 1:51:38 AM

  • @ikrockhopper , have you seen this: i1214.photobucket.com

by Peter Melzer via I1214.photobucket 8/13/2011 1:52:05 AM

  • So, the best JP could do (but govt/TEPCO/FKSM wont say YES) is to put all the debris in the coast side of Fukushima, make people evacuate completely, and deal with all the debris and waste. This is kind of the point of agreement among us on twitter.
    by ikrockhopper 8/13/2011 1:52:58 AM

  • Question, Would radiation reading show up with the hand held devices placed over a bin of veggies, for example? How could you get reading on food? Tokyo Kids & Radiation has been discussing a new hand held device- they have been trying to get a supplier and prices. Talk about a wake up call. Imagine a map with info about reading in your local shop.
by Mid Valley 8/13/2011 1:53:47 AM

  • @ikrockhopper i agree completely. but they should have done that from the beginning.
    by Edano 8/13/2011 1:54:03 AM

  • @ikrockhopper That is pretty much the way to handle it.
    by lillymunster 8/13/2011 1:54:08 AM

  • @Edano Yes. they plan to do. I work in health/public health, and I suspect that gov/TEPCO want to wash out 'significant differences' between FKSMs and other areas, in terms of health effects, by spreading contamination.
    by ikrockhopper 8/13/2011 1:55:59 AM

  • @ikrockhopper , that is the best solution. Dispersal won't work and will only lead to unforeseen and uncontrollable concentration. Technologies must be developed to reduce the amount of radioactivity in a controlled way, best at Daiichi.
by Peter Melzer 8/13/2011 1:56:11 AM

  • @Peter Melzer This is the first citizen running testing center
    by ikrockhopper 8/13/2011 1:56:20 AM

  • @Mid Valley Oh, it will be great, hand-held counter?
    by ikrockhopper 8/13/2011 1:57:23 AM

  • @Edano, and if they spread it all around Japan, I can see headlines ones day misleading the masses in reporting: Cancer Rates In Fukushima Prefecture Not Significantly Higher.
    by Ian 8/13/2011 1:58:12 AM

  • @ikrockhopper this is iaea and icrp policy they set it up silently after chernobyl. radioactivity is not dangerous anymore, people have to stay and the contamination dilutes by spreading it all over. industry will not be affected in this way, and a meltdown is harmless.
    by Edano 8/13/2011 1:58:16 AM

  • @Mid Valley Some moms started pressuring local stores to do measuring. A grocery store in my area put a paper with test results with meat, too.
    by ikrockhopper 8/13/2011 1:58:25 AM

  • @ikrockhopper , there must be many more. Perhaps universities can help.
by Peter Melzer 8/13/2011 1:58:31 AM

  • @Edano yes, too late already.
