  • From the fish article: "Morton also wants the CFIA to test farmed salmon, because she says trace amounts of radiation were detected in seaweed on the B.C. coast."
    by lillymunster 8/19/2011 8:51:48 PM

  • @lillymunster EXACTLY. i love the little hidden nuggets in these news stories. My eyebrows shoot up all the time, with an OH REALLY?? exclamation
    by Panserbjorne9 8/19/2011 9:01:16 PM

  • @Panserbjorne9 so is it fuku radiation or old Hanford radiation? Air releases from Hanford made it to BC but not since the early 70's. Nothing I read suggested water contamination from Hanford off the BC coast. I think the water circulation runs north to south after it crosses the pacific? If there is fuku radiation already showing up in the seaweed on the BC coast we have a problem. The US made some vague mention about testing seafood maybe someday if they feel like it.
    by lillymunster 8/19/2011 9:06:15 PM

  • @lillymunster that's a good point. it might actually be a little too soon for fuku radiation there.
    by Panserbjorne9 8/19/2011 9:27:14 PM

  • @Panserbjorne9 I am honestly not sure. There was a projection on the debris field coming across the Pacific and vague mentions on when it might start showing up in fish. If we can find the time it takes the currents to cycle across we could get an idea of potential contamination. I didn't realize how many foods I like
have seaweed in them until fuku.

  • Not sure if you have seen Dial M for meltdown by Brian Rich. It is a Fairewinds endorsed production: australiancannonball.com
    by AustralianCannonball 8/19/2011 10:24:14 PM

  • @Panserbjorne9 I don't think people realize that carageean (sp?) is in lots of food and is made from seaweed. We thought about stopping by the sushi place for lunch. After going down the list of things now off the menu due to unknowns we opted for something else. But I don't know of anything else is safer because the EPA and FDA won't test anything
    by lillymunster 8/19/2011 10:32:17 PM

  • @AustralianCannonball there were a couple of things that were factually wrong in the video but it is so well done.... I looked for a way to contact him and could not find one. In his defense he does say he did this as an attempt to wake people up and I think he researched it all alone. I think he did a great job but I am loathe to pass on his video knowing he has some significant errors in the data. :-(
