  • @RadioGuy thanks radio please can you look at link I just posted I dunno where to start

  • @lilly Part 2 Just re-read the intro paragraph "This is part 2 of a 4 part series about the Hanford nuclear site in Washington State. We hope the series will help those in Japan achieve a better understanding of nuclear releases and be able to benefit from the experiences of the victims of Hanford as they deal with their own current circumstances related to the Fukushima Daiichi disaster." I understood it at first to say that the victims of Hanford are dealing with their own current circumstances related to the Fukushima Daiichi disaster. I re-read and realized it is the Japan folks who are dealing with those circumstances. For clarity, the sentences could be simply rearranged to read: "This is part 2 of a 4 part series about the Hanford nuclear site in Washington State. We hope the series will help those in Japan benefit from the experiences of the victims of Hanford and achieve a better understanding of nuclear releases as they deal with their own current circumstances related to the Fukushima Daiichi disaster."

  • @elainekirk we probably should grab those. If you or someone else can download all the .pdf documents and email them over I can put them into the TEPCO documents folder.
    by lillymunster 8/18/2011 7:40:46 PM

  • @lilly Part 2: Hanford exposures
People in the area including many of the workers at Hanford were never informed of the releases. I suggest adding commas for readability: Part 2: Hanford exposures
People in the area, including many of the workers at Hanford, were never informed of the releases.
    by ariadne 8/18/2011 7:40:51 PM

  • I'm thinking of starting the Hanford series on Monday (JST) Sunday night US time. That gives a few days to do some pre-promotion via twitter

  • @elainekirk It's a linearized PDF, but I can delinearize it in PDFedit and paste it into Google Translate. The opening page for Reactor 1 comes out like this:
    Attachment 3
    福島第二原子力発電所 first unit
Reactor building and recording observations of the earthquake off the Pacific Ocean for the year 2011 in Tohoku
Report on the earthquake response analysis of the piping system seismic safety critical equipment (overview)
    1. Introduction
In the northeastern Pacific Ocean off the coast earthquake that occurred on 11 March 2011, including the basic version of the reactor building
Was obtained in a number of seismic records.
※ Based on the supporting documents issued by the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency, the first 福島第二原子力発電所
No. regard, we analyze the seismic response using the seismic records, the reactor building and seismic safety
We report the results is a coherent analysis of all critical equipment piping.
    ※ supporting documents
"The 福島第二原子力発電所 Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station and the earthquake in northeastern Pacific Ocean off the year 2011
For support based on the analysis of seismic records (indication) (Cause No. 23-05-6, 2004)
    "
    2. Reactor building
Trampled by the earthquake off the northeastern Pacific Ocean 2011 years of the Unit 1 reactor building 福島第二原子力発電所
In seismic response analysis are obtained, from the perspective of the building to check the status of an earthquake, building basic version
Earthquake response analysis was conducted using the observed records retrieved above.
In seismic response analysis, the model can adequately represent the characteristics of buildings and structures, and ground (Figure
    1) We have set up.
Results of seismic response analysis, seismic strain shear walls, 0.09 × 10-3 at the maximum (north-south direction, 6F)
, And shear walls in all the stress and deformation state following the first break point on the curve skeleton
    Confirmed that. (Figure 2,3).

    by elainekirk 8/18/2011 7:47:44 PM

  • I think a JApanese reader could go through it and pick out the important stuff fairly quickly, but it's tedious to piece them together ... doable, but tedious
    by RadioGuy 8/18/2011 7:48:52 PM

  • @RadioGuy ah I am stumped I am also annoyed because this info has to be in English somewhere they are just being pill ocks

Fukushima, Miyagi cattle shipment ban to ease

The Japanese government plans to soon lift its ban on shipments of beef cattle from disaster-stricken prefectures of Fukushima and Miyagi, saying inspection systems for radioactive substances in beef are being readied.

The government banned shipments from these prefectures as well as 2 others after radioactive cesium exceeding the safety limit was detected in the meat of cattle raised there.

The cattle were fed rice straw contaminated with high levels of the substance that derived from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident.

To combat the problem, Fukushima and Miyagi governments are planning to instruct farmers to move the contaminated rice straw away from cattle sheds. They will also temporarily limit the number of cattle shipped so that thorough inspections for radioactive substances can be carried out.

The central government plans to lift the ban for these 2 prefectures as soon as the measures are implemented.

If things go as planned, beef shipments from Fukushima and Miyagi will resume for the first time in about a month.

  • @elainekirk Yep. They are. A look at the Safecast data shows that they did their drive-through scans with Geigers, with readings in CPM, which they translated to uSV/hr using about 350CMP - 1uSv/hr.

    mdn.mainichi.jp
According to the plant operator TEPCO, the amount of radioactive substances leaking from the Nos. 1, 2 and 3 reactors dropped to a maximum 200 million becquerels per hour, from 1 billion becquerels per hour a month earlier.

The figure means that a person could be exposed to up to 0.4 millisievert when standing around the plant for one year, below the government-set reference limit of 1 millisievert per year.!!!!!!!!!! erm
