  • I don't remember seeing this severed vent pipe before. You can see it on the left. The right side where it was broken off is behind the right crane upright.

  • The NAPS currently operates two 890 megawatt nuclear power units. The existing units
(Unit I & 2) employ a once-through cooling system, drawing lake water from the 9,600 acre
Lake Anna. The cooling system then discharges to three lagoons connected by a series of canals.
Discharges to the three lagoons ultimately flow to Lake Anna.

  • Two things come to mind when I read about the increased flow downstream of N. Anna NPP: Are they increasing release of water to avoid complications from aftershocks creating stress on the dam? Or because there are cracks in the dam, already?

  • @estacion On the second page of the Dominion Lake Anna Brochure it says:
"The water level in Lake Anna fluctuates above or below the normal lake level elevation of 250 feet above mean sea level (MSI). Normal fluctuations experienced to date have been between 249 feet and 251 feet, however maximum water levels of 255 feet or low water levels of 242 feet could be experienced during extreme conditions. Dominion is required by regulatory permits to discharge normally at least 40 standard cubic feet per second (scfs) from the spillway. The discharge flow will be increased as necessary following precipitation to return Lake Anna level to 250 feet. The discharge flow will be reduced to 20 scfs, in accordance with regulatory permits, if Lake Anna level decreases to 248 feet. The discharge flow is continuously monitored and adjusted as necessary by full-time spillway operators." www.dom.com

  • Greenpeace legal bid over Fukushima disaster : Greenpeace served legal papers today accusing the Government of failing to take into account the implications of Japan's Fukushima disaster in future planning for the building of new nuclear power stations in the UK.
The environmental group submitted a 1,611-page legal submission to the High Court and said it was seeking a judicial review, claiming that ministers were not taking into account specialist advice on the implications of the disaster on future reactors. "Instead of following the lead of countries like Germany, our government has recklessly decided to push ahead with new nuclear power without properly taking into account many of the lessons from Fukushima or wider implications for the nuclear industry.
"We believe the Government's failure to properly consult experts and the public after the Fukushima tragedy amounts to a dangerous attempt to cut corners and carve out voices of concern, in order to keep pushing forward with its favoured technology. www.independent.co.uk

    by estacion 8/26/2011 5:55:03 PM

  • That link estacion posted mentions the 3rd reactor they want to build. They would add a cooling tower in order to run it. That tells me they don't have enough water capacity to operate a 3rd reactor

  • @estacion Yes, going by the water levels posted on the Dominion website I agree all seems fine. We could do with confirmation from CBS6 that the info in their article is indeed accurate, preferably with some sources, and if it's not true they should change their report: "Randlett says many neighbors are concerned that the water levels in the North Anna Lake have dropped nearly 22” in a day." www.wtvr.com

  • Consider that on Aug 15 Fukushima Central Television attacked my youtube channel with a wrongful DMCA, forcing me to hide my other videos.

Well get this, I just went to upload a photo of Lake Anna to my website and found my FTP password had changed. So I searched my emails for a godaddy notice and sure enough found on overlooked Aug-20 email that says : "Earlier this week, the Go Daddy Information Security Team detected suspicious activity within your hosting environment. The investigation concluded someone was targeting customers' hashed FTP (Web hosting) credentials. The activity was stopped and we continue to monitor the situation."

This thwarted hack effort might be unrelated to my Fukushima coverage and FCT attack, but I've been online since the early '90s and I've never been attacked before. But between Aug 15 and 20 (within 5 days) I get attacked in two clear and distinct ways. Be sure security for simplyinfo.org is tight!!

  • Ian you may want to contact the Electronic Frontier Foundation. Let them know what has happened and the background of what is going on in Japan. IE: the hiring of a pr firm to wipe things off the web, Japan's internet censoring law etc.
    by lillymunster 8/26/2011 6:18:43 PM

  • I agree! And consider that right after the DMCA I posted the video file to my website and a link to it on to top of my channel www.youtube.com profile. So lo and behold, everywhere that video is placed got attacked within a few days. And godaddy's email on the 20th says the hack effort was "Earlier this week," so it was even closer to the 15th, the day FCT attacked my channel.
    by Ian 8/26/2011 6:20:56 PM

  • @lillymunster, right, I feel I've been too silent about this. Youtube's stated deadline for reinstating my video if FCT doesn't respond is now to early next week (Aug 15 + 10 to 14 days). FCT hasn't a legal leg to stand on wrt Fair Use of the explosion footage. I'm trusting youtube will decide in my favore and I've been leaving it at that.
    by Ian 8/26/2011 6:24:02 PM

  • @Ian the normal process for cases of copyright or domain issues of ownership etc. is to locate the site owner and send them a cease and desist letter. I dealt with this kind of thing when I worked in internet marketing. I'm not sure what to make of the end run of attacking your site and harassing your providers.
    by lillymunster 8/26/2011 6:32:43 PM

  • What I am trying to figure out is how they found or decided to go after Ian's video because it was using a piece of newsreel rather than just a copy of a news video.
