  • Hi Bo!
    by lillymunster 10/10/2011 2:19:46 AM

  • Astonishing that the Cameron govt. is doubling down on Sellafield
    by bo 10/10/2011 2:20:54 AM

  • @bo hadn't seen that. There was an article yesterday about the UK going forward with more nukes.

  • <insert lots of swearing here>
    by lillymunster 10/10/2011 2:27:03 AM

  • @Peter I guess my frustration stems from the fact that it seems like bureacratic double-speak coming from the lips of the NRC. In my mind, the Nuclear Power Industry seems to be have been sucked into the area of "creative engineering"...much in the way Lehman Brothers was sucked into the area of "creative accounting"...
    by smoss 10/10/2011 2:27:31 AM

  • They have to cut every service for the poor, triple or more university costs, but they got money for Sellafield
    by bo 10/10/2011 2:27:43 AM

  • The UK has had a small run of upper class twit professors claiming they have no ties to the nuke industry or the govt but then make insane easy to debunk statements how nuclear fallout is just grand and good for people. :-(
    by lillymunster 10/10/2011 2:28:45 AM

  • @bo Austerity..except for a nuke plant?
    by lillymunster 10/10/2011 2:29:05 AM

  • @smoss , I agree. The overarching issue of this century is RISK ASSESSMENT.
    by Peter 10/10/2011 2:29:50 AM

  • @Peter Well said!
    by smoss 10/10/2011 2:30:37 AM

  • @Peter luck and hope are not proper risk assessment, someone needs to tell Jazcko this.
    by lillymunster 10/10/2011 2:31:09 AM

  • @lillymunster well it seems RISK ASSESSMENT in favor of SHAREHOLDER VALUE.
    by Peter 10/10/2011 2:32:48 AM

  • @lillymunster , we should find this statement. Some expert testifying before Congress in April stated that Fukushima was the best evidence that hardened vents were unnecessary because they did not work.

  • @all Must say "Bye" for now...Thanks, again, for the fantastic input and research! Be Well!

  • @Peter Elaine may have gone off to bed? If I don't find it tonight I will see if she can get on it tomorrow?
    by lillymunster 10/10/2011 2:41:31 AM

  • @Peter, found this, doesn't seem to say that but from April. Will keep looking

  • @smoss later. Thanks.
    by bo 10/10/2011 2:53:08 AM

  • Lilly, I dug up a Senate Briefing on March 29, in which that could have been said. Shall look into that tomorrow. Good night everyone as well.
    by Peter 10/10/2011 2:58:01 AM

  • @Peter sounds good. I did find this

With regard to the type of containment design used by the most heavily damaged
plants in Japan, the NRC has had a Boiling Water Reactor Mark I Containment
Improvement Program since the late 1980s. This program resulted in the installation of
hardened vent systems for containment pressure relief, as well as enhanced reliability of
    the automatic depressurization system

  • This guy made the exact same statement about venting word for word as Jaczko pbadupws.nrc.gov
    by lillymunster 10/10/2011 3:03:52 AM

  • Senator Markey to Congress:
Most recently, three days before the Japanese earthquake and tsunami, I sent a letter to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission urging it not to approve the Westinghouse AP1000 design for a new nuclear reactor because one of its longest-serving top scientists had warned that its containment dome could “shatter like a glass cup” under sufficient stress and that the model used to simulate its resiliency to an earthquake was unrealistic. markey.house.gov

  • Just realized I made a mistake about the steaming video released on Sept 24. I just noticed that the handout for that video www.tepco.co.jp says it was taken on August 24, and according to Tepco that was before the core bottom feel to 100˚C. So we can't say the core was below boiling while water was being boiled.
I just wonder if that August 24 was a typo for Sept 24. Also, did anyone save that file just in case the date got changed?

  • The Hanford deal is one of the biggest boondoggles in human history -- and it isn't going to work.

    by elainekirk 10/10/2011 8:04:16 AM

  • Hi @elainekirk and @bojack54, back for a while. I'm sure you are right @bojack54, $$$$$. If someone can walk away with a fortune, in their minds it is someone else's problem. And if the govt. can get public money in private hands, all the better from their point of view.
