- the austrian article suggests a wrong conclusion: it says the meltdown occured within 15 min after the quake. this is not possible. what is possible, is that the quake damaged some piping or even containment of #1 and xenon escaped. but normally i would await xe135, not xe133. will find more info.by Edano 10/22/2011 10:35:50 AM

- also it is not clear if the quake alone (without tsunami) could have caused a meltdown. i would not think so. the biggest problem was the station blackout which was caused by the tsunami, imo.by Edano 10/22/2011 10:54:57 AM
