  • @elainekirk just reading the austrian news .....
    by Edano 10/22/2011 10:21:00 AM

  • this is the cited study (in english): www.atmos-chem-phys-discuss.net
    by Edano 10/22/2011 10:25:52 AM

  • "There is strong evidence that the first strong 133Xe release started very early, possibly immediately after the earthquake and the emergency shutdown on 11 March at 06:00 UTC. The entire noble gas inventory of reactor units 1–3 was set free into the atmosphere between 11 and 15 March 2011."
    by Edano 10/22/2011 10:28:13 AM

  • "Our results indicate that 137Cs emissions peaked on 14–15 March but were generally high from 12 until 19 March, when they suddenly dropped by orders of magnitude exactly when spraying of water on the spent-fuel pool of unit 4 started. This indicates that emissions were not only coming from the damaged reactor cores, but also from the spent-fuel pool of unit 4 and confirms that the spraying was an effective countermeasure."
    by Edano 10/22/2011 10:29:53 AM

  • @Edano that looks a good study I could understand it
    by elainekirk 10/22/2011 10:29:57 AM

  • @Edano is it on the mark do you think?
    by elainekirk 10/22/2011 10:30:35 AM

  • the austrian article suggests a wrong conclusion: it says the meltdown occured within 15 min after the quake. this is not possible. what is possible, is that the quake damaged some piping or even containment of #1 and xenon escaped. but normally i would await xe135, not xe133. will find more info.
    by Edano 10/22/2011 10:35:50 AM

  • @Edano I see what you mean this is a big problem that the majority (like myself) do not understand the subject enough to spot the flaws in these studies.
    by elainekirk 10/22/2011 10:43:47 AM

  • @edano sorry I was pressing reply ...I thought
    by elainekirk 10/22/2011 10:54:41 AM

  • also it is not clear if the quake alone (without tsunami) could have caused a meltdown. i would not think so. the biggest problem was the station blackout which was caused by the tsunami, imo.
    by Edano 10/22/2011 10:54:57 AM

  • @elainekirk look at teppycam www.tepco.co.jp it's fog.
    by Edano 10/22/2011 10:56:38 AM
