good morning to the best team on the internet...
by dean 10/22/2011 12:32:22 PM

@dean hi dean ! look here:
www.atmos-chem-phys-discuss.net is there any difference in the production of Xe133 and Xe135 ?
by Edano 10/22/2011 12:40:11 PM

looking
by dean 10/22/2011 12:41:27 PM

i mean, xe135 is produced in a normal operating reactor, but xe133 as well ?
by Edano 10/22/2011 12:42:11 PM

they say xe133 was released 15 min after the quake, before tsunami.
by Edano 10/22/2011 12:44:14 PM

@Edano.. Xe133 is produced as a fission fragment from U and Pu
by dean 10/22/2011 12:45:55 PM

131mXe, 133Xe, 133mXe, and 135Xe are some of the fission products of both 235U and 239Pu, and therefore used as indicators of nuclear explosions.
by dean 10/22/2011 12:46:52 PM

ok. so it is the "normal" core inventory. so possibly the quake damaged a pipe or even the containment.
by Edano 10/22/2011 12:49:03 PM

@Edano.. do you remember that fission fragment yield curve.. there are alot of isotopes around the 90.. and 130 range
by dean 10/22/2011 12:49:32 PM

yes @ Edano..and any venting would have resulted in transport
by dean 10/22/2011 12:50:02 PM

@dean but there was no reason to vent before station blackout, was there ?
by Edano 10/22/2011 12:51:04 PM

en.wikipedia.org @ Edano for fission fragment yield curve..
by dean 10/22/2011 12:52:32 PM

@Edano there are video's of venting that occured before the station blackout,, lilly has a video of that
by dean 10/22/2011 12:53:24 PM

also, based on the videos of inside #1, I would say unplanned venting occured and probably mixed in with the other gasses released in the facility

fission fragment yield curve
by dean 10/22/2011 12:55:16 PM

@dean aha. but if they vented, they must have had a reason and must have reported it.
by Edano 10/22/2011 12:55:26 PM

why did they vent after the quake ? was there a rad alarm due to escaping xenon ?
by Edano 10/22/2011 12:56:56 PM

@Edano.. there in lies the big mystery, venting that was planned and the venting that was not planned by the switching around of power, loss of equipment and destruction by the EQ and subsequent explosions.... I belive there was much more venting done that talked about
by dean 10/22/2011 12:57:10 PM

@ Edano.. venting after EQ resulted in the over pressurization conditions as we know,, and also they wanted to vent off normal paths out of the facility and up the stacks while they could
by dean 10/22/2011 12:58:07 PM

@dean after a "normal" scram there is the necessity to vent ?
by Edano 10/22/2011 12:59:16 PM

the transients that happened in the buildings would be almost impossible to know...all the interlocked safety features that did or did not work, attempts to try to vent off to reduce pressure in the wet well and dry well
by dean 10/22/2011 12:59:24 PM

@Edano.. yes they vent as part of normal shutdown,, the off gas system is venting off gases through the normal cleanup system and also the steam is vented off for pressure control...
by dean 10/22/2011 1:00:33 PM

there is a video of a man standing outside a PWR plant on normal shutdown and the reported says.. is that loud noise steam and why.. the plant rep says it's normal during the shutdown of the plant
by dean 10/22/2011 1:01:20 PM

the plants are susposed to relieve steam to the torus which condenses it but the system can only handle so much steam capacity and then becomes over whelmed at which point relief venting is needed to keep from over pressurizing the drywell etc.
by dean 10/22/2011 1:03:02 PM

I believe that all those vent points at fuku.. contained radioactive gases, some of the isotopes being very short lived like in seconds while others with longer half lives became airbourne

by dean 10/22/2011 1:07:18 PM

@ Edano, the worst time from dealing with all that steam is on an unplanned shutdown .. Depressurization system (ADS)
Passive ECCS
This system consists of a series of valves which open to vent steam several feet under the surface of a large pool of liquid water (known as the wetwell or torus) in pressure suppression type containments, or directly into the primary containment structure, in other types of containments, such as large-dry, ice-condenser, and sub-atmospheric containments. The actuation of these valves depressurizes the reactor vessel and allows lower pressure coolant injection systems to function, which have very large capacities in comparison to high pressure systems. Some depressurization systems are automatic in function but can be inhibited, some are manual and operators may activate if necessary.

by dean 10/22/2011 1:34:55 PM

Hi Dean. Did you see the pictures from the unit 1 video? Lots of gauges etc.
by lillymunster 10/22/2011 1:35:26 PM

i haven't yet @ lilly.. and good morning ... coffee's on
by dean 10/22/2011 1:36:41 PM

@ lilly.. there were some gauges by the large valves which shows position.. open or closed or some percentage in between... similar to what would have been on the discharge of the isolation condensors,,, others I saw were probably water level for tanks
by dean 10/22/2011 1:38:26 PM

@ lilly.. I need to run off for work out.. will return and want to see the photo's..
by dean 10/22/2011 1:41:36 PM

@Dean - they are on the group website in a post. I have larger copies if you need them. I have notes on the pics and can give more description of where things are located in the vid/building if needed
by lillymunster 10/22/2011 1:42:25 PM

ty @ lilly.. will check when I get back.. see ya later
by dean 10/22/2011 1:47:44 PM

I should be around off and on today in between doing a bunch of house projects.
by lillymunster 10/22/2011 1:50:20 PM

I looked at the new unit 3 video. Wondering why they sent a camera down the equipment hatch (elevator well). Spied the crane used for pulling up gear. The "phone booth" is likely equipment for that crane or some of the other control room gear. That corner used to house the refueling floor control room. BTW. While I was watching the video one of the pieces from Wager's Nibelung was playing on TV. A fitting soundtrack...

In case you have not seen these yet. Panserborne found a series of articles at Mainichi about the disaster, they are incredibly good.

Found this cryptic message about the neutron ray detected in Tokyo.
I tried to confirm the rumors on the net and neutrons were detected
Dosimeter in apparently "discovered" to have been.
Since false positives may be part of the cps move in synchronization as well as to detect gamma rays characteristic of this dosimeter
Seems to be more accurate and precise instrument reaffirmed once again
