  • @Edano yes I didnt look at it that way but you are quite right
    by elainekirk 10/30/2011 1:48:59 AM

  • @Edano These people are being exposed to excess radiation doing this plus nobody had enough humanity to make sure they protected themselves. They should not be doing this. Either SDF should be - they have trained groups that deal with that kind of thing. Or the govt should be hiring and training people to do it, not having the locals do it like this. God it reminds me of making war victims clean up the aftermath.

  • Bumpetyof the FYI kind: TELL THE BRC TO PROTECT PEOPLE, NOT THE NUCLEAR INDUSTRY

    October 27, 2011

    Dear Friends,

The Blue Ribbon Commission on America's Nuclear Future (BRC) was formed by President Obama and Energy Secretary Steven Chu in the wake of the administration's sensible decision to end the proposed Yucca Mountain, Nevada radioactive waste project.

The BRC was not charged with finding a new site for the nation's high-level radioactive waste; rather, it was charged with examining the potential options for coping with the massive waste problem now on our hands.

Unfortunately, the BRC was stacked with nuclear industry interests and its final draft report, which relies heavily on the long-discredited notion of establishing new "interim" storage sites for radioactive waste, seems much more interested in assuring continued generation of radioactive waste than addressing its fundamental problems. www.nirs.org

  • 100 msv for ct scan?!!! 1000 msv = 1 SV = radiation sickness. 10% of that has got to cause some amount of damage. Can't they give mice or cats cat scans and see what happens?

The results of the study, presented in May at the annual conference of
the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine, were disturbing: the
average patient had received 45 millisieverts (mSv) of radiation. (The
typical chest X-ray dispatches 0.02 mSv of radiation.) And 12% of
patients had gotten more than twice that amount — 100 mSv or more.
"Our focus is to bring awareness to the fact that people are getting
large doses of radiation and it's not innocuous," says Timothy
Bullard, the study's lead author and chief medical officer at Orlando
Regional Medical Center. "We want people to use the technology
appropriately." "Appropriate" is the key word — especially since a
review study published last November in the New England Journal of
Medicine determined that as many as one-third of all CT scans
performed in the United States are unnecessary. Read more:

  • @artnuke, eeek! Who needs Fukushima, medicine delivers a nuclear disaster to each patient! And add to that study this study:

"The ***ulative exposure to radiation from cardiac procedures was 5.3 milliSieverts (mSv) per patient-year [...] There was a dose-dependent relation between exposure to radiation from cardiac procedures and subsequent risk of cancer. For every 10 mSv of low-dose ionizing radiation, there was a 3% increase in the risk of age- and sex-adjusted cancer over a mean follow-up period of five years." www.cmaj.ca

materials contained in the air which was collected at the site of Fukushima

    radioactive materials were not detected.

We reported the above results to NISA as well as to the government of

  • Injuries
-At 8:30 am on October 29, two workers from the cooperating companies were
injured during dismantling of the large crane used to install the cover
for the Reactor Building, Unit 1 within the site boundary. At 9:50 am, one
worker departed the emergency room, Units 5 and 6 and will be transported
to a hospital by an air ambulance. The other worker will be transported to
the hospital by a company vehicle. At 10:35 am on October 29, we
transported one worker to Fukushima Medical University Hospital by an air
ambulance and provided medical treatment including operation. At 2:20 pm
on the same date, we transported the other worker to Sogo Iwaki Kyoritsu
Hospital, Iwaki City and provided medical checkup.
