  • Sooo... no local say (no energy policy by referendum, riight), only by federal fiat. And if too many people turn to alt energy, will the gov't force them to buy/pay for nuke plants, too? Oh, wait-we pay lots of it up front. And of COURSE we'd have to pay for decommissioning...grrrr

  • @M.I.A. I was really disappointed to see a science journalist say that, that people shouldn't have a say in energy policy. It seemed very un-democratic and since science journalism is supposed to engage people into various science topics it seemed out of place

    by lillymunster 1/20/2012 4:27:06 AM

  • The big question for humankind is, what pollutants do we want to live with? There is no way out. We do not, and never have, lived in a pure atmosphere. So we have to make a choice.

  • "Dispatch #2 of Stop the Flows focuses on burgeoning anti-nuke movement in Japan, following the disaster at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. Truth be told I had larger plans for this dispatch. But with time and resources lacking, I could only scratch the surface of not just the anti-nuke movement, but of the anarchist and activist scene in Japan. So what you see here is nearly a glimpse into the world of the folks who will end nuclear power in Japan for good." Amateur Riot (Video) submedia.tv

" Exact locations of the photos are not available, however, a picture of the grating installed at OP+9500 indicates that this view appears to be shot downward from the X-53 penetration, which was located 2 meters above the operational floor level (GL= around 10000)."

  • The other comment in the email I received is that the rust may be the rust colored paint bubbled up from the steam and heat. He mentions that if the corium had been residing below the reactor the paint would be charred. So no meltdown? My thought it the corium just didn't stay in the pedestal area long. IIRC the tests of control rod sensors indicated some bottom vessel damage
