@Markfm They have been injecting nitrogen into reactor #1 so it is expected that pressure will rise a bit, am I wrong?

Best I can tell, the nitrogen injection was just into the drywell. They found out the drywell leaked at about 185 - 190 kPa.

Drywell pressure went from about 150 to 165, then 180, then peaked. TEPCO had an announcement about leaking radioactive steam and nitrogen.

Reading the English NISA reports, nothing indicating nitrogen going to the RPV -- only reports of fresh water injection. All nitrogen references I've found cite the PCV (*I may well have missed something, too.).

@Markfm So seeing as how the PCV pressure at its peak was up around 400kPa on 3/24, and now leaks at 190kPa, is it safe to assume that the 400kPa may have popped something?

That or one earthquake too many. Back on the 12th of March the drywell had 740 kPa, and the one reading from 11 March was 940 kPa.Maybe a planned venting in late March ended with it not resealing all the way. Good question.

Lots of moderate-sized quakes today, spread over much of the world. quakes.globalincidentmap.com Not being a geologist/seismologist, I don't know if that's good or bad. An alarmist would say it means pressure is building on the plates and something big is coming, an optimist would say it's relieving global pressure and calming things down. A geologist would probably say its just coincidence and it means nothing.

@Markfm Venting caused the explosion in R1, right? Remember that article talking about the unhardened venting in the MK1 BWR reactors? Maybe the venting explosion took it out.

Hard to tell. Looking here: www.ic.unicamp.br it seems there was a fairly continuous, slow, slide in #1 drywell pressures out until 22 March, then a buildup back to 400 kPa on the 24th and another slide. It could have been leaky ever since the initial boom on 12 March, or something may have popped up later.

"The project includes the design and construction of a containment arch, composed of a metal skeleton of 18,000 tons (compared to the Eiffel Tower weighs "only" 7300 tons). It measured 105 meters high (twice the size of the Arc de Triomphe ), 150 m long with a range of 257 m. OK, yes. There was a second design that showed improvements that changed the venting, but it may have been a GE :You'll want to do this" thing. I can't remember, but I remember two diagrams, one showing the venting from a capped stem on the torus, and the other showing a venting pipe from the dry-well. I don't even know what to search for in 1000+ pages of blog.
