  • In the original explosions, I thinkit's pretty clear that the explosive mixture permeated the entire structure. Hydrogen is a light gas and diffuses radpidly. I think that the ventilation system was not adequate in the first place and I have a paper that discusses what the omprovements should be. It basically just boils down to a 4 in. pipe routed to the outside.

  • @Jim Carver Has there been any thought or discussion here about the possibility tha #3 explosion may have occurred OUTSIDE the plant, say in the exhaust pipes that carry stuff to the stack? I note that the big exhaust pipes lie mangled and busted on the ground next to #3, though mostly look intact next to #4. The fireball seems to start outside the plant, and after the initial burst it even gets sucked INTO #3 building -- at any rate there is no large follow up along the building -> fireball vector, just the strong vertical explosion that follows the fireball. If memory serves weren't they trying to vent hydrogen gas from #3 when the explosion occurred?

    Hmm, speaking of which, is it possible that when venting steam they would send it up through the stack?

  • @General Armchair I think all the video and images is pretty conclusive and the fact that it occured shortly after venting in all cases, the one that was not vented, did not blow up. @dean yeah, somewhat...i've read so much stuff, hard to get anything else in my brain :) gotta go do chores and it's a beautiful day here.   • @General Armchair now that i have a full size drawing, like to color code everythig... i want to try chasing the systems as best i can.... i think (need to review the layout) that i have suspicions about the first explosion at #3 and were it started... the evlev drawing has lots of good infor if you enlarge it and chase the equipmet layout in respects to the vedio and still pics.....

  • JAIF Earthquake report continues to be a really handy, readable, summary. In #1 they did raise to 10 tons/hr, but didn't go all the way to 14 -- they're monitoring for problems. (temp and pressure both decreased after the water injection).

  • From JAIF, "Tokyo Electric Power Company now says it is unlikely that water is leaking from the spent fuel rod pool of the Fukushima Daiichi power plant's No.4 reactor." Has anyone seen anything newer contradicting this? Personally I don't see how it is possible unless there is a heck of a rod load in #4 SFP, and it doesn't square with the > 5m of water in #4 basement.

  • @markfm technicaly they could be right, the pool might not be leaking but there is a skimmer system and skimmer tank that might not be there and the water would not be going to the tank, and the tank would overflow anyway since its not recirculating to the pool.... plus you have a very crude "filler up" system words are every thing.... never seen a "puddle" that come up to my ankles and flooded a room...

  • @markfm Just in passing..mark I talked about that last night, I know I read a report somewhere that the SFP in #4 has a leak. It couldn't find it again, but I know I read it and it was from Tepco. So, I would just take it that it does leak and I think if you look at the numbers that's the only thing it could be doing. It's just their modus usualus.

  • @General Armchair i have been gone for four days and way behind on the info, but the air system on some of the buildings sit to the offset side and (maybe the main system maybe the begining of the secondry system.... don't know which side it is on building3 but i agree that the system needs traced before "shot down"

  • I got it -- everything is cross-connected, and the corium plug (the high CAMS reading) in #2 S/C is what was keeping the water in #4 SFP. When the Roto Rooter guy snaked #2 he restarted the leak in #4. Makes as much sense as anything else TEPCO says...

  • @Markfm, temp is down on #1, but looks like pressure is up a bit, what you would expect, but still no increase in where the water levels have been in the RPV, makes you wonder if there is a pipe broken at that water line, and they can't fill it up any higher. Also keep an eye on the "CAMS" (Radioactive levels) for #2 & 3, they seem to be going up, and it is showing really high readings in the SPV and DW, places it shouldn't normally be hot.

  • wtm, I'm seeing CAMS in 2 continuing down, though nothing like that huge, unexplained, drop in S/C B reading yesterday. Also looks like a slight decrease in #3 radiation. #1 pressure does seem to show a slight decrease, too. This is comparing the 6:00 28 Apr data to the 6:00 27 Apr data.

  • @Markfm, really hard to get a good consistant reading from anyone, if you look at all the agencies and TEPCO for the same date and time, they will all be different a bit. Makes you wonder if you are really getting the correct info ?

  • @dean @nancy now that I have a real drawing..... i need to do a lot more looking, but you may be able to set me in the right direction... they list several pieces of equipment that are on the outer walls... deminerlizer tank, skimmer tank, precoat ank and cooler.. etc.. was wondering how much Radiation these would still show on thermals if they were now outside the building.... also there is a filter sludge reciever tank.... collection drum, ( i think the drum shows in one of the pic's..) but the sludge tank and items like it that are used to maintain the water chemesity.. acorrding toe the infor i read... remove the decay/contaiment to keep the chemisty correct in the pool and reactor.. these should have "waste" that might have been propelled it the equipment was or if the equipment was outside... what type of heat signiture would they show.... would it even be detectable ??? how about rad readinging if it got spread on the ground???

  • The plant parameters reports I list in the sticky are what also ends up in the NISA Report numbered series. The Brazil site, useful as Josef's been storing the info, comes from the NISA reports (the Nxx references in his text files). The difference is that Josef converts pressures to absolute, while the plant parameters report carries some pressures as gauge. Sometimes you get a typo, but that is pretty rare.
