#2 continuing its rise in S/C B CAMS reading, increase from 84 Sv/hr to 118 Sv/hr. Other parameters stable. #1 showing a bit of decrease in core water level measurements, core pressure up slightly, other parameters stable.

In the first reported #4 SFP injection since 27 April, on 5 May they injected 270 tons of water.

This guy is the same one whose blog was referenced in Physicsforum. @bo said his friends thought thatdispatch release was a political swipe more than a likely big-time rad release leak. @all, I contacted a couple of media people in Japan that I had email addresses for. Didn't get replies back yet from a couple. One didn't address the leaning reactor 4 but sent a reply to my question about Taro's blog. The person that replied is pretty good about pointing info out if they think I have something wrong. So not sure how to take the silence on reactor 4 if it was just non issue in their mind or if they went to look into it themselves.

Tepco starts flooding No. 1 reactor vessel search.japantimes.co.jp "plans to fill the reactor's primary containment vessel with enough water to submerge the fuel over the next 20 days or so ... On Friday, it increased the amount of water injected into the pressure vessel housing the core of the No. 1 reactor to 8 tons per hour from 6 tons. Its goal is to fill the primary containment vessel with about 7,400 tons of water."

@Markfm - if the #3 rpv and cv are at atmospheric pressure or below, what could be producing such high temps?

Bad instrumentation, perhaps? The readings say high temps, TEPCO has increased injection consistent with high temps, I would expect that the pressure is actually nowhere near that low, should be decent steam pressure inside the RPV.

If the radiation is such a concern in #1 why are they only wearing tyvek suits? I would think they would put them in the heavy duty rad suits for this work at #1.

Those numbers aren't making sense to me. Help me out, Mark. What am I missing? They said water level wasn't even up to the bottom of the rods. Let's say water is about 1/3, or 2775t. If they inject 8hrs/day: 8X8=64, 64X20=1280t/20 days. If 24hr/day injection rate: 8X24=192, 192X20=3840t/20 days. At max injection that would bring them to 5120t, and that doesn't account for water loss thru leaks or steam...

I expect they're purposely going slow at first, to figure out if there are significant weaknesses. They did an initial test last week, but probably aren't fully confident yet (no surprise). 7400 total = 370/day = 15.4 tons/hr target injection rate (first order approximation). I expect they're really hoping to be able to push the injection up higher, maybe to 18 or so tons/hr, so a couple of days at a lower rate would be made up for by increased flow later. A tough problem.

@Nancy and @marie rich my colleague tells me that Taro Kono is widely considered to be a very principled politician and very focused on nuclear issues. He comes from a long powerful political family (seen as enabling here, not like the Bushes) and is even respected by opposing parties. He is also a fluent English speaker, a plus as far as we are concerned.

The crops are known for their abilities to decontaminate soil." Something already being done around Chernobyl.
