@dean fantastic isn't it when companies can act without any regulation, where else in the world can a nuke plant continue operations and ignore government requests to shut down?

@bo reporter in Japan that has direct contacts. Tech crew that runs the tippycam said it isn't an illusion. Contacts at the plant confirmed it is leaning and they have a construction crew contracted to try to install a set of cement pillars. No word if the crew actually was able to being work or not. Said reporter has been a reliable source ongoing, what they tell pans out to be a day or so later.

I have to wonder if there is a way to unload the fuel out of the SFP with some sort of caskets to move it to the common pool? Out of 4

Nancy.. seems to me like that would entail such an endeavor, getting things cleared all out including debris in the SFP, trying to rig up a crane and cask etc.

@Nancy , I do not understand what the operators are waiting for. I was expecting cleanup work around the clock. The more debris is removed, the easier it will be to move around.

@nanccy (hi all) not knowing the status of the numbrer 4 pools condition, they may temporaly bring in hydralic jack system to support pool, until they can get rads under control... temp hydralic system could be put in place quite quicly, but if its a big leak issue thaat a different story... when they pour a concrete floor in buildings they have to support the undreneath until the concrte cures to a certain strength then as they remove the supports they shoot the floor for deflections

@fitter I have heard 2 options, one is a iron framework for support, the other concrete pillars. I thought those metal jack pillars might work.

@nancy the good news should be if they can get workers in there to do the support work they should be able to repir the water system, even if only on a temp bases so they don't have to pump with truck... that can all be prefab off site and minimal tie-in work done at the SFP..... Archer Archer Archer is OK, He'll need surgery... but they won't have to put him down... oh how the Jockey ... Don't know, but they don't shoot you if you berak you leg!!!

live cam just zoomed right out, so you could see where its location. smos posted a video of a military fly over filmed from the same place I think. You can just see the 3 towers on the far horizon. I got a screen dump but I don't know how to post it.

hard to tell if they are doing more cleaning and not reporting or not doing it. I think they have most of the ground cleaned. How to get debris out of the buildings or the tops of them is another issue.

@RadioGuy the presentation to the public, propably has 500 pages to every summary they show... cutting into one pipe line or tank can be a 40 page work plan for safety, but you would not release it to anyone other than those that need it..... borring

Doors of NO.1 Reactor building open on Sunday

The Tokyo Electric Power Company is preparing to open the doors of the Number 1 reactor building at the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.
The move is necessary to restore the reactor's cooling system and may take place as early as Sunday afternoon.

TEPCO says a small amount of radioactive substances are expected to be released into the air for about one hour.

The company says it will first obtain approval from the government's Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency and confirm that there will be very little impact on the surrounding environment. Then it will open the two-tired doors of the reactor building.

On Thursday, TEPCO activated a new air-filtering system in the Number 1 Reactor building, which was installed to remove radioactive substances.

The utility says that by early Saturday morning, the density of radioactive material in the air had fallen to about 10 percent the target level.

TEPCO says after opening the doors, possibly on Sunday afternoon, it plans to remove highly radioactive contaminated debris.

Then, workers will enter the building to begin restoring the Number 1 Reactor cooling system.

@Edano This link says bedrock is 46 meters below ground level mdn.mainichi.jp and this link says Fuku is built on TEPCO Solid Bedrock www.tepco.co.jp and this link says groundwater at the plant must be continuously pumped to prevent Buoyancy www.asahi.com of the plant, so how solid is the foundation of this "floating" 865 acre site?
