@LM I have spent $1,200 on air and water purification systems since this began. I had a 10-day period of apparent radiation symptoms, and I am taking care of a sick cat who had a seizure.

@LM I have slightly changed my habits. We already drink filtered or distilled water because our water quality is awful. We are planning on adding a whole house filter. Since these water filtration things were already being considered for other reasons I see it as an abundance of caution that won't hurt anything. I worry about California lettuce and spinach since they were finding low levels and there really is no testing going on.
I did notice something odd related to seafood. We were looking for such yesterday and there is a major lack of supply, many freezers and fish counters low on stock or completely out. Snow crab was impossible to find. Many of the odd fish steaks like tuna etc were nowhere to be found. Shrimp was limited to Thai and South American farmed. Total absence of Chinese, Russian or USA seafood.

@Nancy To me, the biggie so far is food chain accumulation. Before Berkeley NUC went away to their conference last week, milk had been doing nothing but going up. Now we have no readings ince 5/2 BEST BY date. And yet, it never once went down. Given the accumulation at grass clump level of CS, and the amount cows eat, I have NO faith in milk right now.

@radioguy I am slightly less worried about milk in the Midwest but if I was in CA I would be concerned about it. The shut down of milk testing by the EPA is a problem because of the delay in accumulation of long lived isotopes.

@LM My concern about air is if we get another big release. It is already getting hot here, running the AC constantly is extremely expensive, leaving the windows open blows everything in the house due to the constant high winds. Combine that with a large release or if we start to get high levels in the soil...I wondered about making some sort of window HEPA filters. :-) I would still be much more worried about people in Japan having this kind of protection.

@Nancy I won't deny I've been nervous opening my windows lately. Almost all of them face due west. We live 5 minutes from the pacific. I hate vacuuming but I must admit I need to step up efforts and think about a quality air filtration system. I can't afford to use my ac either.

The set of reaedings that did it for me war RIGHT before they stopped testing. Rainfall spikes the soil, but spikes the grass 5 times higher. Five days later milk Cs isotopes in milk go up again. Then there are NO more readings. So our last sets of Cs-137 in milk, just before stopping, go: .099, .16, .21, .44, .44, .49 and then it stops stop.

And that milk was a 5/2 *BEST BY* date, not a collection date.

@radioguy have you had anymore contact with Berkley to see if they are going to resume testing?

@radioguy I think Berkley provides a good "canary in the coal mine" to fill in the EPA gaps. IE: Berkley finds something significant could be a warning to us and a reason to push the EPA and FDA to get back to work.

@Nancy That aricle was a good pull, but what we are really seeking is any plant conidtion or action between about 245 and 215 Japan time. By 5:30, the Tsunami had already come and gone.

@RBeaner I was told there was an hour between. Need to go check I guess.

Who would TEPCO be required to give SCRAM data to? METI?

@Nancy Scrams are not frequent, but they are not that unusual. It is a regular part of business/operation, especially in high quake areas. The answer is they probably give NOONE outside TEPCO detailed data on scram parameters. Including METI and NISA, it will be in-house and just decribed as an automatic scram from safety features.

@Nancy: I think Mar 12th is the date of publication, data are refered to Mar 11th 2:48 PM (JST), just before tsunami.

Remember that automatic shutdown was triggered by EQ, no tsunami.

@estacion I know what it says on the HTML, the question is when was it first generated, has it been edited... I just don't know or remember. This could have been confusion at the beginning, but I think WE would have caught the "off-site power provided" issue/mistake......ALERT @Nanacy, that was Daini, not Daiichi, didn't catch earlier...TY Estacion for remindindg me of my sceptiscism....:)

@Nancy Still looking for Geological and Ground Surveys at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station supposed to be done in late 2007 into early 2008, found their implementation plan, but no results of the survey.

@Bobby1 I do too. I have to believe I am. By the end of the week I hope to know for sure.
