@Bobby1 Or willfully seeing, compare this years flu like symtoms dates of flu etc... with the last couple of years. You are taking a single point of data and making it a trend. Use the scientific approach. Back your beliefs up, or find you can't back them up, and discard them.

@Jim That is typical. Elaine would find a statement TEPCO was going to do something and then no results or press release stating it actually was done. All I have is a set of EQ testing they did, it might be of use. Let me go find it.

@all, I would actually like to see more documented data on radiation effects and exposure rates. Something that cites back to the original data source or studies would go a long way towards understanding and validity.

Doctor and hospital visits in CA for flu-like illness have gone up. Flu has gone down. There is no flu going around. Patients fill emergency rooms. The wait time is increased for other patients who have heart and other diseases. This affects their health.

@Nancy, I am reviewing the Tanaka presentation. At 31:03 minutes he states that Tepco disclosed to the government that its operators attempted to run the ECCS of #1 on Mar. 11, 16:36 (2 hours after the quake), without success. We need to find the actual statement and figure out why this attempt failed.

#1 pressure in D/W and S/C, which used to be in lock-step, are now diverging. Both are decreasing, with the S/C lowering more quickly. ah, never mind, mod hell....

# 3 reactor temp. continues to creep up. Water level at 'A' took a big hit on 5May. D/W and S/C pressure seem steady, but pressure in RPV continues it's slow decline. Cams is slowly decreasing.* According to avail. data.

@Nancy ECCS is Emergency Core Cooling System... It would have been implemented after scram and with battery or diesal generators. It needs electricity in these older reactors.

@Nancy, I don't understand the man well enough, he refers to the emergency cooling system. Apparently, they still had power at that time. I doubt that the tsunami could have caused the loss of coolant. The pipes attached to the RPV are not exposed to ocean waves.

@RBeaner Right, the diesels kicked on for about an hour or so, then the tsunami hit and knocked them out, and I think the batteries didn't work at all. But thet have only an eight hour run time, so it wouldn't have made much difference anyway. Dean thinks none of it would have because the thermal lag was too great. But you'd have to confirm that with him. Don't want to put words in his mouth.

@fitter, I was thinking of the force of the waves. Flooding of buildings probably shorted all kinds of electrical circuits out.

@Peter Melzer TEPCO's statements have been that the EQ caused no damage to the plants and that any damage was caused by tsunami or explosion. So some of this pipe damage is important for the reasons you state. Internal piping would not have been at risk from the tsunami

@Peter Melzer Two things TEPCO mentions, can't tell water level readings in reactors, and that they think there are broken pipes inside the reactor water system. The electricals that are shorted out could have been tsunami maybe? Would that water level sensor be impacted by water killing the electricals?

The Effect of Earthquake Occurred in the Northern Part of Japan(as of 4:30 pm today)

A big earthquake occurred in the Miyagi Prefecture at 2:46 today. Due
to the earthquake, about 4.05 million households are in power outage
in our service area.

Due to the earthquake, our power facilities have huge damages, so we
are afraid that power supply tonight would run short. We strongly ask
our customers to conserve electricity.
If you find any disconnected transmission lines, please do not touch
them.

The effect of the earthquake to our facilities is as follows;

Fukushima Daiichi
-Unit 1,2,3 were operated and automatically stopped.
-Unit 4,5,6 are in regular inspection.

Fukushima Daini
-Unit 1,2,3,4 were operated and automatically stopped.

Kashiwazaki-Kariwa
-Unit 1,5,6,7 are in operation.
-Unit 2,3,4 are in regular inspection.

At all the nuclear power stations, monitoring posts, which monitor
radiation through exhaust stacks have shown normal values. In other
words, at the present, no radiation leaks have been confirmed.
(Thermal Power Stations)
-Hirono Unit 2,4 were stopped.
-Hitachinaka Unit 1 was stopped.
-Kahshima Unit 2,3,5,6 were stopped.
-Chiba Unit 2-Group 1 was stopped.
-Yokohama Unit 8-Group 4 was stopped.
-Ohi Unit 2,3 were stopped.
-Goi Unit 4 was stopped.

(Hydro Power Stations)
-15 power stations in Fukushima, 3 power stations in Tochigi, 3 power
stations in Yamanashi, 1 power station in Gumma were stopped.

(Transmission and Distribution Facilities)
-Naka Distribution Facility was stopped.
-Shin-Mogi Distribution Facility was stopped.

(Others)
-At the service facility(not nuclear facilities) of the Fukushima
Daini Nuclear Power Station, a small fire temporarily occurred but
was extinguished at 4:07 pm.

One other thing to consider w/ respect to health risks is to look at epigenetics and the impact of low level radiation.

@Peter Melzer TEPCO claims no detected releases up into the 12th at the point they announce they are going to vent. So as far as public info no radiation releases to the outside by the decision to vent.
