nancy.. i think the site layout what we have some where and cross sectional of the building shows the diesels in the basement.. and the one shows the elevation of the diesel as compared to the height of the tsunami which would have engulfed it

typically a motor generator set is what is used for the exciter on the generator or and also is used in older units called MG sets

R6 is the only unit that has an air cooled diesel emergency generator.. all others I assume are water cooled.. not sure where the water comes from yet tho.. but assumed is clean eater... from auxillary system

yes Jim, I just think that with all the stuff happening due to unexpected consequences of the EQ then tranformer loss... the conditions worsens quicker that we think.. in the PCV but our research will hopefully prove out

@ fitter I believe from what I've read they are the emergency diesels.. if the mono rail runs accross the top that is what we used to pull the heads off the diesel for maintenance

me too Jim... if the diesels would have been higher in the facility they would have functioned longer but with no cooling they really get hot fast..

another thing we'venot discussed is the plant air system and or instrument air systems.. all those big control valves have to have diaphram air and if it's lost valves begin to go to fail safe modes.
