Japan Earthquake | Page 1231

  • @dean - I have filled your inbox with priceless info from Tepco
    by hudebnik 5/17/2011 12:53:32 PM

  • Amazing - Google has indexed this page in the past 5 minutes.

  • Longer report list than usual. Two mystery tables. Included the link to the TEPCO PR about releasing the larger data set. Included link to results of airborne MEXT/DOE radiation measurements near Fukushima.

  • one interesting observation I've discovered.. Plant #4 supposedly had no fuel in the reactor and the reactor was in shutdown mode. Since this was the case they should have been able to send a team of people in to inspect for damage from the earthquake on the facility with the intent of uncovering some common mode failure that could have happened in the other plants.. I've not heard this was done
    by dean 5/17/2011 1:06:25 PM

  • I'm going to be away for a bit and then come back ...
    by dean 5/17/2011 1:06:42 PM

  • @dean there have been no announced attempts to enter 4 by humans or robots at all.

  • Ok guys I have to go to sleep...........Elaine should be back soonish to free souls in mod but if there is anyone who wants to check if they can post I will wait for a few mins just to make sure no one is stuck

  • 16 May vs. 17 May NPP 6:00 parameter changes. #1 temps trending down (RPV and D/W) with the increased 10 cubic meter/hr injection flow rate, still slight increases in RPV pressure. #2 parameters trending downward (a good thing), fairly stable. #3, with 15 cubic meter/hr injection, showing RPV temps down 4 - 6C, D/W RPV bladder temp listed as down 63C to 134C (?), other parameters generally stable/trending down.

  • Angie, should be okay -- I generally stay logged in during the US East coast work day.
    by Markfm 5/17/2011 1:13:03 PM

  • Awesome thanks Mark! night guys!
    by Angie 5/17/2011 1:13:31 PM

  • @RBeaner Anything I have archived I have kept copies of. I think Elaine has done the same. Who else was adding files to the archive? We should be able to recreate the archive on some jointly owned storage space so we don't run into issues in the future.

  • "Results of Airborne Monitoring by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology and the U.S. Department of Energy", in the pinned list, has decent graphs, description of what was done.
    by Markfm 5/17/2011 1:17:01 PM

  • @Markfm - would you like PDFs of the historic Tepco reactor data March 11 - May 17? I downloaded them and shortly after Tepco withdrew the water level/pressure ones! If so email addr pls.
    by hudebnik 5/17/2011 1:18:06 PM

  • As usual, the JAIF earthquake report is a good capture of the things NHK has posted. "Generator trucks proved useless at Fukushima plant" ... "The utility says a switchboard for the No.2 reactor was finally wired to one of the
generator trucks about 24 hours after the disaster.
But moments later, a hydrogen explosion at the neighboring No.1 reactor fried
the wiring and cut off the power supply from the truck.
Another hydrogen explosion 2 days later at the No.3 reactor damaged generator
vehicles with chunks of flying concrete.
Electricity was finally restored to the plant through the regular power grid on
March 21st --- 10 days after the quake and tsunami."

  • If Nancy is getting the data it will be saved somewhere, otherwise sure, happy to get the data.
    by Markfm 5/17/2011 1:20:40 PM

  • @nancy has it.
    by hudebnik 5/17/2011 1:20:58 PM

  • @mark - fine, on their way soon. Cldst confirm they arrive?
    by hudebnik 5/17/2011 1:25:42 PM

  • @hudebnik - working on getting those PDF's online. Making an index of them. I didn't catch what they are. Is it plant stats? New ones from yesterday?
    by Nancy 5/17/2011 1:26:34 PM

  • I will in a bit.
    by Markfm 5/17/2011 1:26:49 PM

  • TEPCO documents reveal chaos at Fukushima nuke plant after quake, tsunami mdn.mainichi.jp "The power-source trucks (to supply the reactors with outside power) are stuck in traffic!"

"We've given up on venting operations (to lower reactor vessel pressure). The radiation is just too high."
    by Markfm 5/17/2011 1:28:25 PM

  • @all. I think we need to find some group file storage system. There are a number of online file storage services that don't cost anything. It would give us an archive we all have access to and also a place to locate things like TEPCO and METI pdf documents so we can link to them from our website without worry of TEPCO pulling the document later on. If anyone wants to do some research or make some suggestions? I am pretty busy this week between the group website build, updates to my site and a busy work week so I don't have time to take that research on also

  • Cooling system of Fukushima plant's No. 1 reactor not functioning before tsunami mdn.mainichi.jp (yes, I'm doing some of today's articles, updating the News page on the wiki.)
    by Markfm 5/17/2011 1:29:56 PM

  • Wow, the TEPCO data dump is around 2900 pages.
    by Markfm 5/17/2011 1:30:53 PM

  • @nancy - the PDFs are downloads from Tepco's Japanese status page, www.tepco.co.jp Fukushima Daiichi section.
    by hudebnik 5/17/2011 1:31:30 PM

  • "The pressure vessel's data points to the possibility that plant workers started and stopped the cooling system several times before the tsunami hit the plant at around 3:30 p.m."
    by Markfm 5/17/2011 1:31:30 PM

  • @RBeaner grabbed those photo links. Will go through them and see what we don't already have. BTW, I think I will start archiving more of the humanitarian images. They don't specifically fit with reactor forensics but will come in handy for the people working the humanitarian side of things
    by Nancy 5/17/2011 1:31:33 PM

  • @hudebnik THanks!

    by RBeaner 5/17/2011 1:33:24 PM

  • Crisis plan revised but not timeline search.japantimes.co.jp "Tepco said it will also reinforce the buildings for units 1, 2 and 3 so they can withstand possible strong aftershocks and ensuing tsunami.

Earlier, Tepco had planned to reinforce only the spent fuel pool of unit 4.

The operator said it will move up its plan to set up heat exchangers to keep cooling the plant's spent fuel pools to mid-July."
    by Markfm 5/17/2011 1:35:12 PM

  • @hudebnik the historical data pdf files are now online here www.houseoffoust.com

  • @nancy ty you are a genius!
    by hudebnik 5/17/2011 1:36:25 PM

  • @Markfm um, that is major. Now they are saying structural issues at the other 3? I don't think they would be doing that unless there are some major problems.
    by Nancy 5/17/2011 1:36:33 PM

  • @Markfm what are you talking about specifically as a data dump? Is there a page where they are listing all the info they are flooding people with this week?
    by Nancy 5/17/2011 1:37:42 PM

  • Worker error may have led to meltdown search.japantimes.co.jp "NISA, the government agency that oversees nuclear plant operators, urged Tepco on Tuesday to provide a detailed explanation by May 23....A worker may have stopped the condenser to keep cold water from coming into contact with the hot steel of the reactor to prevent it from being damaged....However, nuclear reactors are designed to withstand this procedure in case of an emergency, said Hiromi Ogawa, a former nuclear plant engineer at Toshiba Corp."
    by Markfm 5/17/2011 1:37:58 PM

  • The TEPCO data is posted at a page. See www.tepco.co.jp which then links to www.tepco.co.jp (they are supposed to be working on English translation of the data).
