TEPCO revises plan to stabilize reactors The operator of the damaged nuclear plant in Fukushima has revised its plan to bring it under control. Tokyo Electric Power Company announced the changes on Tuesday, one month after it released its original plan. The original plan called for filling up Number 1, 2 and 3 reactors with water, but TEPCO says injected water may leak out under present conditions. This is due to the recent discovery that fuel rods for the Number 1 reactor had melted, apparently damaging the vessel containing the reactor, and a large amount of water has been found to have leaked out of the vessel. The utility suspects that the Number 2 and 3 reactors are in a similar situation due to apparent meltdowns. [more] www3.nhk.or.jp

@hudebnik I have checked the translation to the charts you posted. Somewhat different than the fukushimafaqs. I can do translations now and again if anyone needs assist.
[updated 05/17 23:00] … Here are the graphs depicting the evolution of the main parameters of Fukushima NPP1 reactors (unit1 to unit3) since the accident. You can find similar and additional interesting graphs on this other website from a Brazilian University, as well as, since 5/17, from TEPCO themselves. … dgr4quake.wordpress.com

@Majj Is there a main web link for the Brazilian Uni website so if people hit it they would get to the newest or all of the graphs and data? I want to add it to the group website but need a good URL to use.

@dh - thanks. I'll ask @nancy to put them on the dedicated page.
Another site that graphs plant parameters, but only main ones atmc.jp

@marie rich @Nancy I went through this pages but it is GGreek for me. I got Jorge Stolfi numbers and I'm calling him. No susses so far, many phone numbers. He don't like email... I will get him sun o late
@all. Thanks. Will be out of the office for a while now.

Japan: U.S. Agency to Stop Monitoring Nuclear Plant www.nytimes.com (I know, old news, but it just formally came out in today's print NYT)

So it turns out that there *was* a meltdown around reactor #1. Quite a lot of people suspected this from the visual evidence, but TEPCO and the Japanese government denied, denied, denied. Accusations that those arguing for a meltdown were all internet conspiracy theorists (which also occurred early in the Katrina disaster as well, and in other instances) were used to discredit people who argued that a meltdown had, in fact occurred.

@marie rich - I seem to recall that you were one of the people that was in denial. Change of heart now that it came out in the official account?
by Lethbridgean 5/17/2011 4:05:57 PM
@Lethbridgean Not I, Leth. I was one of the 'alarmists' even on Rueters. They wouldn't post half my stuff. LOL
by marie rich 5/17/2011 4:07:05 PM
I wouldn't call it denial. I call it realistic caution. We now have evidence that we didn't have before. But I still take the China Syndrome possibility with a grain of salt as some of the evidence we have doesn't support that scenario, actually it contradicts it. But Elaine was indeed on the other side. I was one of the few in «denial» as you put it.

@marie rich I have been getting the "Oh jeeze, give up with the conspiracy theory!" ceaselessly since the beginning. Not I can say "See, I told you so" and it's "so two months ago."
by radioguy 5/17/2011 4:32:42 PM
@marie rich : i was attacked very wildly when i used the words "chernobyl" or "china syndrome" on reuters and here too, at a time when the meltdown was already complete. i think with 2 month of molten, obviously hot (very hot) corium we are allowed to assume a china syndrome. in fact, i can see no other possibility. to believe the corium stays without any reaction within a destructed rpv or the containment, is not realistic. if they admitted "little" holes in the rpv, and you take in account tepco's past information tactics, i would bet that everything ius possible. once you have a little hole in the steal, the integrity ist destroyed and the hole will widen very rapidly.

Hey you all.... Has any one signed up for the enews page? Is it a scam? Free trial.... I thought there was melt down in 1 when the pressure went negative and the temp rose over 700 deg. C... Think that was early april. I'm back tracking a bit.
@All, in the following article is it likely the reasons listed are genuine ? Living so near the situation and the media makes me suspiciously cautious to believe. www.japantoday.com

Morning all! @edano Especially with corrosion from seawater!
by LM 5/17/2011 4:40:06 PM
@carabnr : tepco already admitted the meltdown occured 16 hours after the cooling failure.
by Edano 5/17/2011 4:41:16 PM
So, between 6 minutes into the 15th hour, and the beginning of the 16th, the core had melted completely below the core support plate into the bottom of the RPV.

@salu I believe the figures the poor hygiene and the fact that virus' can thrive in the conditions the people live in plus the stress!!

@radioguy WOW that is an excellent graphic
by Panserbjorne9 5/17/2011 4:42:33 PM
@Edano - Yes Edano I totally agree, If you take into account what the IAEA counted as a catastophy before this event it was anything more than a 30%meltdown of the rods and loss of containment, my numbers there might be a little off(still sleepy), but I remember us saying it was worse than Chern... But do not fear "they" said the rads will just be locallized, nothing to fear outside the immediate area......So sick of the S.P>
by Lethbridgean 5/17/2011 4:42:48 PM
Now that we know that there has been a complete meltdown in #1 and possibly #2 and #4 what are the ramifications of it for human health? We still haven't seen a single direct death due to radiation.. That's the real question ppl should be asking.. We all knew TEPCO was lying. We were just not sure their lies would be to such an extent
