  • Cooling system stops at No.5 reactor in Fukushima Xinhua
    May 29, 2011

Cooling system at a reactor of the crippled Fukushima No.1 nuclear power plant stopped from Saturday, the plant’s operator said Sunday.

Tokyo Electric Power Co. said the pumps to cool the nuclear reactor and fuel pool have stopped at the No. 5 unit, and the operator is now working to switch to backup pumps to restore the cooling system. www.prisonplanet.com

  • @majj the silence is starting to give me collywobbles surely the goj/tepco should be sending out assurances that all is under control (even though it isnt and never has been)
    by elainekirk 5/29/2011 11:52:14 AM

  • @hudebnik in regards to the earlier comment that their might be some fission going on in 1. Bobby cited something showing a spike in iodine around the 23rd - last date on the report she cited. They were also testing for radiation readings above one and said they would do the others later. Sounds like something is up at #1

  • @elainekirk We will only now what happen after.... But the wind is decreasing and By the ETS time it pass Fukushima latitude , it will be only a extra tropical storm. The amount of rain is the Big Question.
    by Majj 5/29/2011 11:56:49 AM

  • @Nancy Good news. I was trembling here thinking in a new BIG problem
    by Majj 5/29/2011 11:57:23 AM

  • @fitter on phone. Go to bwr mark1 wikipedia.org and look at the references. They list some good science, both pos andd neg
    by RBeaner 5/29/2011 12:00:46 PM

  • @Majj So was I and that they lost all cooling. I thought they had back ups. The failure made it all over the media. The repair didn't seem to at least last night. (6hrs ago). The idea that they would be trying to repair that while being hit with a typhoon was not good news.

  • Interesting... in this hi-res photo, some of the backs of the workers at the IAEA inspection are Photoshopped so as to conceal what appeared on the backs of their protective suits... sneaky... www.asianweek.com

    by bojack54 via Asianweek 5/29/2011 12:05:43 PM

  • @bojack well spotted!! I have seen that pic so many times and didnt twig till you said
    by elainekirk 5/29/2011 12:06:51 PM

  • @namcy did we get our weather guys/gals to look at bobby1 provided i131 data for a simple wind change. Nothing against, but ongoing fission is a sig claim, and tequires good data to backup.
    by RBeaner 5/29/2011 12:09:41 PM

  • @bojack54 in the enlarged pics i saw they looked like sheets put over information... these people may not be AIEA and or they may be blocking there names (some are shown) both would be appropriate in this situation.. as they should not be marked AIEA if not,
    by fitter 5/29/2011 12:10:48 PM

  • @bojack54 Funny, I was so busy looking at the building I never noticed that. I have a full sized copy of that. Pulled it open and zoomed it, they put a square block over the backs of a few people and crudely covered it up. This is the photo from TEPCO. I need to see if I can find the IAEA photos to see if they are like that too.
    by Nancy 5/29/2011 12:11:08 PM

  • @fitter It is actually photoshopped and poorly so. :-)
    by Nancy 5/29/2011 12:11:25 PM

  • found the #5 is working again story www3.nhk.or.jp
    by Nancy 5/29/2011 12:11:53 PM

  • @Nancy it is standard practice to review any photo or videio released by a buisness... it may be photoshoped... I guess my point was that if they were not IAEA then they were correct to correct the pic....
    by fitter 5/29/2011 12:13:50 PM

  • I checked the IAEA pics, they only had one where a full back shot was in. That one is truely blank www.flickr.com

by Nancy via Flickr 5/29/2011 12:14:13 PM

  • @Nancy The point i was making is not that it is or is not edited.... the editing may be for a very CORRECT reason.... say onlt 7 IAEA personal went there ... the conversation would be they are trying to show 9, if a Tepco person had one on and it was edited...
    by fitter 5/29/2011 12:16:34 PM

  • @nancy I dont see enough white out to obliterate IAEA, but maybe some other agency and an individual name.
    by RBeaner 5/29/2011 12:18:01 PM

  • @RBeaner on my photo or bojacks's?

    by RBeaner 5/29/2011 12:20:09 PM

  • @Nancy I've read on one site that they weren't IAEA because they were short and bolegged... if I was TEPCO i would not relaese anything other than the gov't required... every one just reads what they want in to... I firmly belive this is the reason that TEPCO has stopped realeasing so much... but the tree trimming looks good!

  • An important follow-up analysis pissinontheroses.blogspot.com re the 62X background rainwater test www.youtube.com

This fellow, potrblog, is the only citizen dosimeter user I found who understands that water is radio-opaque (ie, it blocks radiation) and so must be removed from rainwater test samples. He achieves this by collecting the residue left by the rain on metal surfaces like his car.

In contrast, other citizen tests place a dosimeter next to a volume of 99.999…% rainwater, which is sure to give the "normal" readings they report even if there's a significant amount of radionuclides in that rainwater.

The radiopacity of water is why spent fuel is stored in pools of water. Citizen fallout testing is the last resort to document the truth of Fukushima, but I've only run into one citizen tester who is going it correctly, potrblog
