  • bo hello there hope all is well with you
    by dean 7/5/2011 3:22:17 PM

  • lilly.. I'm recharged from the weekend.. I'm waiting for my next assignment.?
    by dean 7/5/2011 3:22:37 PM

  • @dean LOL. I'm trying to figure out how many cups of coffee until my brain kicks in. ;-)
    by lillymunster 7/5/2011 3:23:26 PM

  • @lilly my brain is supercharged today...
    by dean 7/5/2011 3:23:57 PM

  • The tweets from a couple of workers that Elaine and others have been following are really interesting. It sounds like there may be more concerns about 4's sfp and stability.
    by lillymunster 7/5/2011 3:25:33 PM

  • @bo , in the context of stress management, you may be interested in reading this: brainmindinst.blogspot.com . Fear is managed by evolutionarily very old parts of the brain. Our survival depends on fear.
by Peter Melzer 7/5/2011 3:25:41 PM

  • @lillymunster , I wonder what the oiler is!
by Peter Melzer 7/5/2011 3:26:13 PM

  • hello Peter, very good seeing you

  • Can anyone help me ID the strangle flappy 'dividers' between the racks in this video?
    by Ian 7/5/2011 3:26:38 PM

  • greetings Ian, I managed to find your web site.. very nice
    by dean 7/5/2011 3:27:34 PM

  • Lol, strange flappy
    by Ian 7/5/2011 3:27:53 PM

  • Thanks dean! iangoddard.com
    by Ian 7/5/2011 3:28:32 PM

  • Ian. those are the control blades and the color may mean that some of them have been replaced (typically the case) and are just being stored.
    by dean 7/5/2011 3:28:40 PM

  • @Dean, if your looking for something to work on, what about making a list of the US mark 1's that are identical to the Fuku units? That would help with distributed research so we can have a multiple list to google for in hopes of finding some blueprints or safety documents.

I think my task for today after I find what piece of furniture my brain rolled under is going to be finishing the MOX reporting search to get that off my list. I did a news search this morning, didn't find anything earth shattering.

Between Elaine's find over the weekend about one of the political parties having info on 4's stability and the tweets today about the same I think something is up with 4 for sure.
    by lillymunster 7/5/2011 3:29:04 PM

  • @Peter Melzer ty. My wife is a therapist, and my daughter studies neurobiology, so I have been hearing these things for a long time. This page seems to frame it well. Currently the repulsion from perceived contamination, also very hard wired in the older parts of the brain, are at work in the way the evacuees are treated. Thanks.
    by bo 7/5/2011 3:29:07 PM

  • hello, dean, same here. I found another nugget. This time nuclear power plant operators in the US deemed seismic upgrades for hydrogen removing systems unnecessary: pbadupws.nrc.gov . I wonder whether TEPCO even bothered with installing those at Fukushima.
by Peter Melzer 7/5/2011 3:29:46 PM

  • a@ lilly I will start right off on getting that list
    by dean 7/5/2011 3:30:56 PM

  • @bo and @Peter, I saw an interesting window sticker, the ones where college or university students put in their rear windows, it said.."GRADUATE OF PSYCHADELIC STATE"..
    by dean 7/5/2011 3:31:53 PM

  • @dean, my alma mater
    by bo 7/5/2011 3:33:04 PM

  • @lilly do you know which political party?
    by bo 7/5/2011 3:33:54 PM

  • @bo , I think a great message in the flier Nancy posted last night was to suggest that people get together and talk about their fears with the goal of developing strategies of dealing with the crisis. The greatest fuel of fear is the feeling of being lost, of not being able to do anything to improve the situation.
by Peter Melzer 7/5/2011 3:34:06 PM

  • @Dean, thanks, yes indeed, fuel assembly control blades t0.gstatic.com
    by Ian 7/5/2011 3:35:45 PM

  • @Peter Melzer agreed. My wife is a member of the mental health professionals organization here in Japan, but I don't think many of the members really know what they are up against. She is trying to communicate with people there. Feeling that you are being lied to about information that is essential for your health, and the health of your family, can make people feel and do weird things.
    by bo 7/5/2011 3:36:20 PM

  • Dean, what about the darkening of some of the assembly tops? www.youtube.com Could this be from a zirc-cladding fire, which everyone expected had occurred right after the U4 blast?
    by Ian 7/5/2011 3:38:51 PM

  • @bo, the discussion was on a Japan communist party web site (unofficial) talking about IIRC one of the liberal democratic party groups having information about unit 4.
    by lillymunster 7/5/2011 3:39:24 PM

  • @bo I would think that lack of information or knowing your being given bad information (without any good info) would be more stressful than being given the truth and facts even if they are not great news.
    by lillymunster 7/5/2011 3:41:05 PM

  • bo, I hope you get a chance to listen to the video by William Milberry, a teacher in Japan with an exceptionally lucid and thoughtful analysis of the Japanese response to Fukushima. His voice could be an important addition to the civilian response : www.youtube.com
    by Ian 7/5/2011 3:41:39 PM

  • @bo , I happened on this road marker story last night: brainmindinst.blogspot.com . Perhaps citizens should mark the hottest spot they can find on the ground in their neighborhoods with a "such and such microSv/h, thanks to tepco"-sign!
by Peter Melzer 7/5/2011 3:43:05 PM

  • @Ian just finished watching it. Thanks for posting. I will message him on YouTube and spread the video, and let him know that his voice is heard. And @lillymunster there is no escape from bad news, for instance the level of radiation. To couple that with bad information is to cripple people and their ability to do the best thing for themselves and those they love. Totally agreed.
    by bo 7/5/2011 3:43:47 PM

  • checking that out Ian
    by dean 7/5/2011 3:44:25 PM

  • @Peter Melzer, brilliant. This is an empowering idea. This will give people a sense of agency. Excellent.
    by bo 7/5/2011 3:45:01 PM

  • @lillymunster @bo Unit 4 story translate.google.com
    by Bobby1 7/5/2011 3:45:30 PM

  • @bo, great!! Every voice is a catalyst for change. @Dean, based on what you said about the blades, just ignore the lines I superimposed suggesting a link between the darker blades, though it's curious, is there any possibility there were fuel assemblies between the blades are something happened to?
    by Ian 7/5/2011 3:47:09 PM

  • @Bobby1 yikes!
    by bo 7/5/2011 3:48:21 PM

  • @Peter Melzer I absolutely love that idea! Hmm... what could we do to help it along....
    by lillymunster 7/5/2011 3:49:23 PM

  • @Ian, that comparison is interesting, a couple of points from my experience, I have seen where the control blades (safety rods as i call them) can show some discoloration after extended use due to oxide film build up over a long period and have that when they are changed out (new ones being nice and pristine), also I keep thinking in my mind that IF a fire occured in the FUEL ELEMENTS in the SFP around that area that the heat would have been so intense that it "could" be possible that some things were scorched and not burn or melt which is what envisioned. you may just have something on that.. .the burning of fuel would engulf and burn the control rod blades but they wouldn't ignite by themselves..
    by dean 7/5/2011 3:49:31 PM

  • @bo @Bobby1 the news print in Bobby's link is the ones people had found over the weekend. Everyone talks about it but nobody quotes exactly what is said in the article. Bo, do you have anyone who could give it a quick read through and at least tell us the gist of the article? Since it is a photo of the paper I can't do a cut and paste translation.
    by lillymunster 7/5/2011 3:52:09 PM

  • @lillymunster sure. After midnight here now, but I can have someone look at it in the morning. Will report back then. @Peter Melzer looking at your blog and related data. Excellent work. I will send my daughter to study with you!
    by bo 7/5/2011 3:53:54 PM

  • @lillymunster The Shakai Shimpo is a publication of the socialist party of Japan. Stories published by fringe political parties are not usually picked up by the mainstream media.
    by Bobby1 7/5/2011 3:55:32 PM

  • @bo , thanks!
by Peter Melzer 7/5/2011 4:01:06 PM

  • Well off to bed for me folks. Back in the morning.
    by bo 7/5/2011 4:01:57 PM

  • @ Peter, I say that report on the link by the BWR Owners Group is all BOGUS, there should be no reason, especially after fukushima and the fact that the utilities make millions of dollars, that they should make those systems SAFETY GRADE systems and actually enhance them based on current revelations from fukushima..
    by dean 7/5/2011 4:02:55 PM

  • res well bo
    by dean 7/5/2011 4:03:00 PM

  • @Ian, I do not know whether you read the Sekimura presentation: dels.nas.edu . It provides some clues. The Standby Gas Treatment System is indeed located underneath the service floor in these buildings.
