  • The full share issue will be taken up by Japan Uranium Management Inc. (JUMI), a special
purpose entity established by the three Japanese companies in British Columbia, Canada.
Once JUMI completes the transaction, U1's outstanding shares will total 586.61 million,
and JUMI will have a holding of about 19.95%. TEPCO and Toshiba will each hold 40% of
JUMI's shares, and JBIC will hold 20%.

  • @elainekirk I haven't done alot of looking into Uranium Holdings. I can say that, from what I have read, it does appear that the Russians seem to be making a bit of a power play against the French, when it comes to the Japanese Nuclear Industry. Russia and Japan have worked together on developing Fast Breeder technology and implementing it. Russia, also, is like minded (compared to Japan) when it comes to Pluthermal Programs, and has attempted to develope it's own MOX fuel production facility....just random thoughts...
    by smoss 7/14/2011 1:16:23 AM

  • So what happens to all these uranium holdings if Japan shuts down all the nukes?
    by lillymunster 7/14/2011 1:17:22 AM

  • The Joint Venture consists of 4 partners: TEPCO Resources Inc. (Canada),
TEPCO's wholly-owned subsidiary, CAMECO (Canada), COGEMA (France), and a
subsidiary of Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd. (Canada). TEPCO Resources Inc.
owns 5% interest of Cigar Lake uranium mine project.

  • @all A June 2010 proposal by JSC Atomredmetzoloto (ARMZ), a Russian uranium
mining company, to acquire a majority stake in U1 was accepted by U1's
board in July subject to shareholder approval and relevant government
approval. The Japanese companies and U1 have reviewed their relationship
and confirmed that the Japanese companies could achieve their original
objective of securing uranium purchase rights without holding the
convertible debentures in U1, and agreed to the new arrangement. www.tepco.co.jp

  • So is TEPCO saying that #3 is EQ proof really code for saying the #1-#2-#4 are EQ
    f#*ked?
    by bo 7/14/2011 1:22:33 AM

  • Because Japan has scarce uranium resources, it imports all uranium for its nuclear power needs. Therefore, TEPCO is working to diversify supply sources and regions, and to efficiently combine different procurement methods to secure stable and economic supplies of uranium resources. www.tepco.co.jp

  • TEPCO urged to tighten workers' radiation control
Japan's Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency has urged the operator of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant to tighten controls on workers' radiation exposure.

About 3,000 workers are struggling daily at the plant to contain the nuclear crisis.

The safety agency has been inspecting Tokyo Electric Power Company's measures to protect them from exposure to radiation.

The agency says it has found 8 areas of concern and ordered TEPCO on Wednesday to take appropriate measures.

The agency said that TEPCO lacks information about subcontracting employees and ordered the company to boost the number of safety managers for such workers.

It also urged the utility to provide more full-face protective masks and make sure that plant workers wear them properly. www3.nhk.or.jp

    by LM 7/14/2011 2:37:09 AM

  • @LM that is exactly what I wrote about in my article. Some graves are being rebuilt in areas that were just damaged as opposed to washed away, or currently in high radiation areas. This will all lead to great depressions. Thanks for the post.

  • @Bo You are most welcome. I loved your article and I think it's good for all of us to think about the individuals caught up in this horror. It's so easy for us to concentrate on Tepco and the GoJ because the anger is so close to the surface. Seeing the faces definitely brings perspective.
