Japan Earthquake | Page 1972

  • @elainekirk rockhopper has been trying to follow US nuclear events. I think there is some sort of connection since the US brought the technology to Japan in the first place. The US was quick to blame Fukushima all on factors unique to Japan including that their regulatory was bad. The more I find out the NRC isn't any better than METI and the risks are high here again with the "can't happen here" mentality.
    by lillymunster 7/19/2011 8:33:01 PM

  • @lillymunster @lillymunster the US were effectively (are) the regulators of Japans nukes due to the arms agreement so for the US to say that Japan couldnt happen there is ridiculous they printed the song sheet they are all singing from the possibility that they used Japan as a test bed is something that will be decided in the fullness of time

  • @lillymunster That figures.

I'm still shaking my head at CBS doing an NRC takedown. That's so unexpected. They see the ruse falling apart and its everybody CY-own-A? "We're not Murdoch....SEE?" Just too many holes in the dam?
    by RadioGuy 7/19/2011 8:50:53 PM

  • Oh. Wait. Oh no. I can almost hear it coming: "It's not nuclear energy that is bad. This government-run bureaucracy they have making sure everything is up to code is just inept. All kinds of people run power plants. That government agency failed to do its job catching those few bad apples you'll find in any industry."
    by RadioGuy 7/19/2011 8:56:33 PM

  • Of course the sheer weight of documentation would belie that idea. ;)

  • @RadioGuy Sounds like exactly what some political assistant is furiously typing up as we speak.
    by lillymunster 7/19/2011 8:58:21 PM

  • @RadioGuy But it was because of all this government regulation that the power plants simply can't bother to not falsify their inspections. :-)

Just choked it off as it sucked the wind out to the east with the last of the stream. Amazing stuff. The IR showed it pretty well.

    by elainekirk 7/19/2011 10:46:06 PM

  • @all -The Japanese government and TEPCO have modified their overall timeline for recovery from the Fukushima Daiichi accident. The overall dates have NOT been pushed back, but a number of goals have been redefined, some goals added, and some deleted.
Relevant to our normal discussion on this blog centering on nuclear safety are the following changes: First, the requirement for filtered continuous dry well venting has been deleted. Second, the plan to flood the dry wells has been cancelled. Third, plans to continue to seal leaks in the suppression chambers are marked as cancelled - even though the most recent (July 19, or today) TEPCO press release indicates that "grouting" or concrete filling of the area around the suppression pool at No. 2 plant continues. We will look for further information on this matter. Fourth, the plan to install temporary heat exchangers in the reactor buildings for cooling the reactor cores has been abandoned since the present operation consists of both remotely filtering and remotely cooling the injected water at other buildings on site.

  • @smoss ty smoss so they have reached their goal - 4 months of fobbing the public off - they will now be raising their glasses to the next 4months of lies
    by elainekirk 7/19/2011 10:49:00 PM

  • @elainekirk Ok, so we know that Tepco, NISA, METI and GoJ are all playing this situation off...that's a given at this point. What I find intolerable is that no other entity, international or otherwise (and yes, this includes the US gov't) is demanding clarity. In my mind, it then makes them equally culpable. I am not much of a conspiracy theorist, but this is the coverup of the century. Even the former Soviet Union and it's actions with Chernobyl were more forthcoming with information (and that was during the cold war).

Daiichi only had CF in #6 the others relied on soft shutdown which of course didnt happen
    by elainekirk 7/19/2011 11:02:43 PM

  • @smoss oh yes at the moment I am trawling for anything to help us build a bigger picture of just how aware the international nuke community were of the situation at daiichi hence the last two posts I am not techi so just pulling anything that seems relevant the links I have given are papers presented at international 'gatherings'
    by elainekirk 7/19/2011 11:04:48 PM

  • @elainekirk Looking at the big picture, makes me wonder what role the lack of economic stability world-wide may be playing behind the scenes. "Too big to fail" may still have alot of governments spooked. (That almost sounded like I feel sorry for them? Whoops!)
    by smoss 7/19/2011 11:11:30 PM

  • @smoss I have just been discussing that on an entirely different subject with another - the euro is toast and yet they are trying to pretend it isnt collapsing and I suggested that if the third biggest economy globally is also at risk of spiralling is there the possibility that...
    by elainekirk 7/19/2011 11:18:44 PM

  • @all Must tend to things elsewhere for a bit...keep up the great work! As this situation trends on, the entities will rely on distraction and mis-information to push attention elsewhere. It will truly come down to the "Everyman" in all of us to make the difference! @elainekirk The possibilities are frightening both economically and environmentally for future generations!

  • @elainekirk Wow. That is a huge difference and for all of TEPCO's plants, not just one that maybe had a problem but 3 plants and one of them far from the other two. Are the rates for male workers same time frame available?

    by lillymunster 7/20/2011 12:12:31 AM

  • Look at the big differences between the employees vs. non employees that get dosed. Other plants do not have nearly as many non employees and fewer with big doses.
